Hello, people of the Internet, today I want to talk to you about this film that I think is one of Pixar's best. It's quite different from what Disney usually does and the truth is that it leads to a very nice message. Read on to find out what it's all about.
Hola, gente de Internet, hoy quiero hablarles de esta película que me parece una de las mejores de Pixar. Es bastante diferente a las apuestas que suele hacer Disney y la verdad es que conduce a un mensaje bastante bonito. Sigan leyendo para saber de que se trata.
The movie tells the story of Joe Gardner, a frustrated musician whose only goal in life is to play jazz and soul with some big name artist, however, a monotonous job in a school and the lack of support from his mother for his biggest dream, has made him perceive life as a mere transit to try to achieve his goal. It is not when he loses his life in an accident and is teleported to a place of soul trafficking, where life originates and ends, that Joe meets 22 and the two team up to achieve what they want, 22 wants to find a reason to want to live and Joe a pass to his body to have a chance to live again.
La película nos cuenta la historia de Joe Gardner, un musico frustrado cuya única meta en la vida es tocar jazz y soul con algún artista de renombre, sin embargo, un trabajo monótono en una escuela y la falta de apoyo de su madre eb cuanto a su mayor sueño, le ha hecho percibir la vida como un mero transito para intentar alcanzar su meta, no es sino hasta cuando pierde la vida en un accidente, y es teletransportado a un lugar de tráfico de almas, donde se origina y termina la vida, que Joe conoce a 22, y ambos hacen equipo para lograr lo que quieren, 22 quiere encontrar un motivo para querer vivir, y Joe un pase a su cuerpo para tener la oportunidad de volver a vivir.
I have to say that it has become my favourite Disney Pixar film (at least for now) (at least of the relatively recent ones) and Soul shows us a beautiful story focused literally from the point of view of the protagonist, the immersion of the film is so great that we feel Joe, we feel his frustration, his joy, his discouragement, his despair. ... in this story, we are him and also, we can identify with the character because even if we don't lead a miserable life, we have had some point in which we have felt frustrated with our life or how it is going, I think this is one of the best aspects of the film.
Tengo que decir que se ha convertido en mi película favorita (al menos por ahora) de Disney Pixar (al menos de las relativamente recientes) y es que Soul nos muestra una historia preciosa enfocada literalmente desde el punto de vista del protagonista, la inmersión de la película es tan grande que nos sentimos Joe, sentimos su frustración, su alegría, su desánimo, su desespero... en esta historia somos él, y es que además, podemos sentirnos identificados con el personaje porque aunque no llevemos una vida miserable, hemos tenido algún punto en que nos hemos sentido frustrados con nuestra vida o como va encaminada, creo que es uno de los mejores aspectos de la película.
But Joe is not the only character with whom we can identify, 22, an unborn being, represents that feeling of dissatisfaction that we have all had at some time when we do not feel enthusiasm for anything or do not have a clear vision of what we want (it is a period that we all go through in the transition from children to adolescents and then from adolescents to adults). 22, despite having many tutors who try to make him find his "spark" he has never been able to find it and that is why he has not been able to be born, moreover this fact has made him so unenthusiastic that he has developed a detachment from life and prefers to remain unborn.
Pero Joe no es el único personaje con el que nos podemos sentir identificados, 22, un ser no nato representa esa sensación de insatisfacción que alguna vez hemos tenido al no sentir entusiasmo por nada o no tener una visión clara de lo que queremos (es un periodo que sobre todo pasamos todos en la transición de niños a adolescentes y después de adolescentes a adultos) 22, pese tener muchos tutores que intentan hacerle encontrar su "chispa" nunca la ha podido hallar y es por eso que no ha podido nacer, además este hecho lo ha desentusiasmado tanto que desarrolló un desapego por la vida y prefiere quedarse sin nacer
I don't want to give too many details because I would fall into spoilers (in case you see that context is missing) but the film talks about life, and its final message is simple, live it to the fullest because it is the only one we have, it is unrepeatable and every second counts, the small strokes of luck, the little things are more than the big strokes of luck, take advantage of them, don't stop seeing the road that leads to your goal just to see the goal, keep the goal and enjoy the road... at least that's how I understood everything the film expresses with its story and its ending, one of the best I've ever seen.
No quiero dar muchos detalles porque caería en spoilers (por si ven que falta contexto) pero la película habla sobre la vida, y su mensaje final es simple, vívela al máximo porque es la única que tenemos, es irrepetible y cada segundo cuenta, los pequeños golpes de suerte, las pequeñas cosas son más que los grandes golpes de suerte, aprovéchalas, no dejes de ver el camino que conduce a tu meta solo por ver la meta, conserva la meta y disfruta el camino... al menos así entendí todo lo que la película nos expresa con su historia y su final, uno de los mejores que he visto.
The photography is beautiful, it has a cold colour palette for the most part, however, the overlapping and the intentionality in which they set the palette makes the atmosphere feel cheerful and dynamic, even warm and pleasant, despite the cold colours. The shots are also very nice and representative.
La fotografía es preciosa, tiene una paleta de colores fría en su mayoría, sin embargo, la superposición y la intencionalidad en la que fijaron dicha paleta hace que pese a ser colores fríos, el ambiente se sienta alegre y dinámico, incluso cálido y agradable. Los planos también son muy bonitos y representativos.
With the premiere of The Little Mermaid on the horizon, which is rather racist in that far from giving the actress an input in a suitable role for her as Tiana, or making a story that represents the black race and putting her as the protagonist, they simply put her in a story that is, let's say, Caucasian, in Soul we see the true Afro-descendant representation we need (as with The Princess and the Frog) we have a black man who loves jazz and Soul and is an excellent pianist (genres of music whose contribution and development was driven by blacks, as well as rock and roll) there is no replacement, Joe has his own story and it is one of the best of the mouse company.
Con el estreno de La Sirenita en puertas y cuya apuesta es más bien racista dado a que lejos de darle un aporte a la actriz en un papel adecuado para ella como Tiana, o realizar una historia que represente a la raza negra y ponerla como protagonista, simplemente la pusieron a desempeñar una historia digámoslo así, caucásica, en Soul vemos la verdadera representación afrodescendiente que necesitamos (tal como con La Princesa y el Sapo) tenemos a un hombre negro que ama el jazz y el Soul y es excelente pianista (géneros de música cuyo aporte y desarrollo lo impulsaron los negros, así como el rock and roll) no hay reemplazo, Joe tiene su propia historia y es de las mejores de la compañía del ratón.
I thought the little black mermaid was an abysmal step backwards for how well they were doing, we need stories that really represent and take into account minorities, not replacing caucasian characters with blacks and making them part of a story that they can't even identify with geographically, I feel they deserve more attention and respect, to have their own stories and not the leftovers. Soul is the proof of what should be done when it comes to inclusiveness and good representation of minorities, so that's a plus for the film.
Lo de la sirenita negra me pareció un retroceso abismal para lo bien que iban, necesitamos historias que representen y tomen en cuenta realmente a las minorías, no remplazar personajes caucásicos por negros y hacerlos parte de una historia con la que no se puedan identificar ni siquiera geográficamente, siento que merecen más atención y respeto, tener historias propias y no el sobrante. Soul es la prueba de lo que se debería hacer cuando hablamos de inclusiones y buenas representaciones de minorías, así que es otro punto a favor para la película.
The soundtrack left me speechless, it's beautiful and amazing, I loved seeing the inspiration in Joe when he plays, actually watching him while you hear the piano notes it's inspiring. It's really something special. I'll leave it below for you to hear.

In summary, Soul is one of Disney Pixar's best films and is highly recommended, the message is simple but quite important and it is also dynamic and has excellent scripts.
