THE MIND IS AS POWERFUL AS THE SOUL ITSELF, EVERYTHING IS TANGIBLE AS FAR AS THE MIND ALLOWS..

As a moviegoer I always look for movies that blow my mind and grab me from start to finish that way I can feel that it was worth every second invested in a movie or series and lately I have blindly put my faith in South Korean and Japanese movies that really train a good product that can entertain the most demanding viewer.

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to watch HOMUNCULUS a Japanese thriller that presents us with a very interesting story that invades our senses and puts us up against the wall and throws us that question that we usually avoid, but is always present in our lives.

🇪🇸 LA MENTE ES TAN PODEROSA COMO EL ALMA EN SI, TODO ES TANGIBLE HASTA DONDE LA MENTE LO PERMITA.

Como cinéfilo siempre busco películas que hagan volar mi cabeza y que me atrapen de inicio a final de ese modo puede sentir que valió cada segundo invertido en una película o serie y últimamente he puesto mi fe a ciegas en películas Sur Coreanas y Japonesas que realmente tren un buen producto que puede entretener al espectador más exigente.

Hace unas semanas tuve la oportunidad de ver HOMUNCULUS un thriller japonés que nos presentan una historia muy interesante que invade nuestros sentidos y no pone contra la pared y nos arroja esa pregunta que soleos evitar, pero que siempre está presente en nuestras vidas.

The Thriller genre is characterized by throwing as many emotions, characters, plot twists to confuse your mind and when it succeeds it leaves you with the false idea that you are on the right track, but the truth is that you are not and that can blow your mind. Movies like THE CALL, A HARD DAY and PARASITE perfectly master this genre and that's very hard to pull off 100%.

Which is not that it makes it impossible, but there is always the possibility that it doesn't turn out as expected, in this movie Homunculus we came across a product that promises to give the most amazing touch in this genre, as a moviegoer I was passionately expecting to be surprised by this movie, but the truth is that it wasn't what I expected.

🇪🇸 El género Thriller se caracteriza por arrojar la mayor cantidad de emociones, personajes, giros de trama para confundir tu mente y cuando lo logra te deja la falsa idea que vas por el camino correcto, pero la verdad es que no y eso puede hacer volar tu cabeza. Películas como THE CALL, A HARD DAY y PARASITE dominan a la perfección este género y eso es muy difícil de llevar acabo al 100%.

Lo cual no es que lo haga imposible, pero siempre existe la posibilidad de que no salga como se espera, en esta película Homunculus nos topamos con un producto que la verdad promete dar el toque más alucinante en este género, como cinéfilo esperaba con mucha pasión ser sorprendido por esta película, pero la verdad es que no fue lo que esperaba.

WHAT'S THE MOVIE ABOUT?

The movie is based on a Manga with the same name and tells us the life of a homeless man named Susumu Nakoshi (Go Ayano) who lives in his car but has mysteriously lost his memory and must lead with that feeling during his journey through his lost memories and his current life, this man despite living in his car has a lot of money, but is in such a difficult mental situation that the truth does not care in the least about his life and what may happen to him.

¿DE QUÉ TRATA LA PELÍCULA?

La película está basada en un Manga bajo el mismo nombre y nos cuenta la vida de un vagabundo llamado Susumu Nakoshi (Go Ayano) que vive en su auto peo que ha perdido la memoria misteriosamente y debe liderar con esa sensación durante su viaje a través de los recuerdos perdidos y su vida actual, este hombre pesar de vivir en su auto cuenta con mucho dinero, pero se encuentra en una situación mental tan difícil que la verdad no le importa en lo más mínimo su vida y lo que pueda pasar con él.

A man who suffers from no feelings, no laughing, no crying, no feeling and this leads him to meet Manabu Itou (Ryou Narita) a doctor who experiences that an ancient medical process called trepanation is a medical practice that consists of drilling holes in the skull, which was considered one of the oldest surgical techniques in the world. This man convinces the homeless man to undergo this treatment to make him relive those memories that seem to be hidden in the depths of his mind and that he will also be able to feel a sensation like never before.

The Tramp**, agrees to go through this operation, since he doesn't care about anything and thinks that he doesn't lose anything by trying, since that way he can continue with nothing to stop him from going on with his vague and sad life. The operation is performed and Susumu Nakoshi, leaves the room as if nothing, walks through the streets of Japan and suddenly begins to have very strange visions of people in the street, this generates a shock of emotions and the adrenaline of not knowing what happens inside his mind, he tries to get away from people, But he runs into a man who seems to be a gangster who tries to end the life of the homeless man, but he can not, because he touches him and creates in his mind that little image in the form of memory of what he lived as a child, but that caused him much damage and that way he could get out of that situation where his life was at great risk.

For you to have a clearer idea, the term homunculus / homunculus, refers to a MAN or person and has to do a little with the alchemy which refers to the field of this science as a term or meaning, which in the film or MANGA used as the basis for the development of the story.

🇪🇸 Un hombre que no padece de ningún sentimiento, no reí, no llora, no siente nada y esto lo lleva a toparse con Manabu Itou (Ryou Narita) un médico que experimenta que un proceso médico antiguo llamado trepanación es una práctica médica que consiste en agujerear el cráneo, la cual se consideraba como una de las técnicas quirúrgicas más antiguas en el mundo. Este hombre convence al vagabundo de pasar por este tratamiento para hacerlo revivir esos recuerdos que pareen estar ocultos en lo más profundo de su mente y que además podrá sentir una sensación como nunca antes.

El Vagabundo**, acepta realizar esta operación, ya que no le importa nada y piensa que no pierda nada con intentar, ya que de esa forma puede continuar sin nada que lo detenga a seguir con su vaga y triste vida. Se realiza la operación y Susumu Nakoshi, sale de la habitación como si nada, camina por las calles de Japón y de repente comienza tener visiones muy extrañas de las personas en la calle, esto genera en un choque de emociones y la adrenalina de no saber que ocurre dentro de su mente, intenta alejarse de las personas, pero se topa con un hombre que parece ser un mafioso el cual intenta acabar con la vid del vagabundo, pero no puede, ya que él lo toca y crea en su mente esa pequeña imagen en forma de recuerdo de lo que vivió de pequeño, pero que le causo mucho daño y de esa forma se pudo zafar de esa situación donde su vida corría gran riesgo.

Par que tengan una idea más clara, el término homúnculo / homunculus, se refiera a un HOMBRE o persona y tiene que ver un poco con la alquimia lo que se refiere al campo de esa ciencia como termino o significado, que en la película o MANGA lo usan como base de desarrollo de la historia.

We see how he goes through every situation and helps different people, but every time he manages to help he becomes that deposit of misery and every pain or sorrow is transferred to his soul and carries with him that pain that other people have lived, from this point everything gets interesting and we see how a man without feeling begins to feel emotions that does not belong to him and tries to end this gift that was given to him without having asked for it. His life changes 360 big and everything starts to get complicated when he begins to remember his past and looks for a way to put together the pieces of the puzzle to reach the end of the labyrinth that is his mind.

A GOOD STORY, BUT WITH FEW EMOTIONS

The film itself is interesting and with a plot that could blow your mind from the psychological field and that is the presentation card of the film, but it gets lost on the way when they try to put together so many situations that do not find the order to execute them.

🇪🇸 Continuemos, esto se repite en casi toda la película con diferentes personajes que ocultan un gran dolor y que viven cada día con ello, demonios y recuerdos que se comen el alma de las personas que buscas salir de esa pesadilla pro no logran hacerlo. Aquí es donde el vagabundo entra hacer el HOMUNCULUS o persona que puede ver en el interior de las personas y servir como verdugo o salvador de ese sentimiento que invade de tristeza algunas personas, es decir puede ver a través del alma del condenado.

Vemos como pasa por cada situación y ayuda diferentes personas, pero cada vez que logra ayudar él se convierte en ese depósito de miseria y cada dolor o pena es transferido a su alma y lleva consigo ese dolor que otras personas han vivido, desde este punto todo se pone interesante y vemos como un hombre sin sentimiento comienza a sentir emociones que no le pertenece e intenta acabar con ese don que le fue otorgado sin haberlo pedido. Su vida cambia 360 grandes y todo se comienza a complicar cuando de poco comienza recordar su pasado y busca la manera de unir las piezas del rompecabezas para llegar al final de ese laberinto que es su mente.

UNA BUENA HISTORIA, PERO CON POCAS EMOCIONES

La película en sí se presenta interesante y con una trama que podrí volar tu cabeza desde el campo psicológico y esa es la carta de presentación de la película, peo se pierde en el camino cuando intentan reunir tantas situaciones que no encuentran el orden para ejecutarlas.

However I must be very precise in saying that this is no excuse to show a film with this lack of emotions and that in itself is developed through emotions and is not executed as such. I loved the main idea, but I hated the way we were presented with each situation that left much to be owed and does not close each character as expected or logic dictates, I love movies that play with our mind and emotions, but this film fell short on that side and it is unfortunate, as they had a great product to exploit to the fullest.

INTERESTING CHARACTERS

Each character has their story and a reason to live or die and we see how they offer you that space to get to know them and learn about their inner demons that can impact the viewer at first glance.

One of the characters that most caught my attention was a woman who struggled with the emotion of being with a man for the first time, but at home they looked at it with very bad eyes under the veil of sanctity and all that entails, It is interesting how they approached it in the film and the way they present it as if it were an unforgivable sin and the struggle of this girl to pretend that she has already been with many men to avoid hearing her friends say that she is a virgin or inexperienced, this internal struggle and see how to make the girl see that having sex is not wrong, it was very shocking.

🇪🇸 Para esto debemos tener en cuenta que la cultura de Japón es totalmente diferente la de esta parte del mundo donde las emociones son más calientes y vivimos cada sensación como un mar de lava ardiente, es decir íntimos cada emisión su máximo esplendor y en la cultura asiática las cosas se ven y se sienten con menos pasión y esto debemos tenerlo en cuenta al momento de ver la película.

No obstante debo ser muy preciso en decir que esto no es excusa para mostrar una película con esa falta de emociones y que en sí misma se desarrolla a través de las emociones y no se ejecuta como tal. Me encantó la idea principal, pero odié la forma en como nos presentaron cada situación que dejó mucha a deber y no cierra cada personaje como se espera o la lógica dicta, amo las películas que juegan con nuestra mente y las emociones, pero este filme se quedó corto por ese lado y es lamentable, ya que tenían un gran producto para explotar al máximo.

PERSONAJES INTERESANTES

Cada personaje tiene su historia y una razón para vivir o morir y vemos como le ofrecen ese espacio para conocerlos y conocer sus demonios internos que pueden impactar en el espectador a primera vista.

Uno de los personajes que ms me llamo la atención era la de una mujer que luchaba con esa emoción de estar con un hombre por primera vez, pero que en casa lo veían con muy malos ojos bajo el velo de la santidad y todo lo que ese conlleva, es interesante como lo abordaron en la película y es la forma en que lo presentan como si fuera un pecado imperdonable y la lucha de esta chica por aparentar que ya ha estado con muchos hombres para evitar escuchar a sus amigas decir que es una virgen o inexperta, esta lucha interna y ver cómo lograr hacer ver a la chica que tener sexo no está mal, fue muy impactante.

Living through someone else's life is not the smartest thing to do, and even less to take the responsibility of making decisions that end with the purest of human beings, the faith in God and in oneself.

Characters that will make you think a little more than usual and that maybe you can understand or feel what they live in the deepest part of their being.

🇪🇸 También otro personaje es el del vagabundo que a través de esos recuerdos bloqueados no sabía que camino tomar y navegaba por ese mar de preguntas que no lo hacían llegar a puerto seguro y que a medida que avanza la película se topa con esas emociones que vivo antes y que lo retoma a través de las demás personas con quien debe enfrentar situaciones nada comunes.

Por último tenemos un personaje misterioso que al momento de ver la película los va a sorprender si le ponen mucha atención y el de una mujer que intenta borrar su pasado convirtiéndose en otra persona que además tiene una vida muy complicada y no encuentra salida a la situación que ella misma ha creado. Vivir a través de una vida ajena no es lo más inteligente y menos correr con la responsabilidad de tomar decisiones que acaban con lo más puro del ser humano, la fe en dios y en uno mismo.

Personajes que te harán pensar un poco más de lo normal y que quizás puedas entender o sentir lo que ellos viven en lo más profundo de su ser.

LET'S TALK ABOUT THE GOOD AND THE BAD

THE GOOD*

• An interesting story, with a slow development, but that fits in time and development.

• Unique and distinct characters that contribute to the main plot, where each of them has something to offer and nothing to envy.

• A photography and urban environments with a dark and mysterious tone that envelops you from start to finish.

THE BAD

• A very horizontal script that makes some scenes become repetitive, not in the development of the characters, but in the way the story of each one of them is presented graphically.

• Lack of more intense emotions that can catch the viewer and create empathy for each character.

• An accelerated beginning that if the story is good can catch you, but if it does not know how to develop or create enough attention to take you by the hand until the end, many may stop watching the film on the way, for lack of an attraction that makes it interesting with respect to the emotions they are trying to sell us.

I am a very curious viewer and if the movie I see sells me from the beginning a story with passion and twists, I expect to see it through to the end or at least in a good section of the story.

🇪🇸 HABLEMOS DE LO BUENO Y LO MALO

LO BUENO

• Una historia interesante, con un desarrollo lento, pero que se ajusta en tiempo y desarrollo.

• Personajes únicos y distintos que aportan a la trama principal, donde cada uno de ellos tiene algo que ofrecer y nada que envidiar.

• Una fotografía y ambientes urbanos con un tono oscuro y misterioso que te envuelve de inicio a fin.

LO MALO

• Un guion muy horizontal que hace que algunas escenas se tornen repetitivas, no en el desarrollo de los personajes, pero si en la forma en cómo se presenta gráficamente la historia de cada uno de ellos.

• Falta de emociones más intensas que puedan atrapar al espectador y crear empatía por cada personaje.

• Un inicio acelerado que si la historia es buena puede atraparte, pero que si no se sabe desarrollar o crear la atención suficiente para llevarte de la mano hasta el final puede que en el camino muchos dejen de ver la película, por falta de un atractivo que la haga interesante con respecto a las emociones que nos intentan vender.

Soy un espectador muy curioso y si la película que veo me vende desde el inicio una historia con pasión y giros, espero verlo hasta al final o por lo menos en un buen tramo de la historia.
