Review: The Dig

When I watch a film based on real events, I take my time to try to understand every detail captured in the film, I search tirelessly for the meaning of things and the reason why they are subject to the protagonists of the plot.

I usually get soaked enough to somehow feel or see from a point of view what I would feel or think at times like these.

MY MOVIE SYNOSIS

In 1939 a landowner named Edith Pretty starring (Carey Mulligan), hires the archaeologist and excavator Basil Brown who is starring Mr. (Ralph Fiennes), he has the mission to do an Excavation in one of its lands which will become the discovery of a lifetime.

Basil Brown, has a particular personality and his talent is undoubtedly particular, since all his life he has felt and lived archeology and Excavation is more than a job, it is his passion and for what he lives.

MI SIPNOSIS DE LA PELÍCULA

En el año 1939 una terrateniente llamada Edith Pretty protagonizada por (Carey Mulligan), contrata al arqueólogo y excavador Basil Brown que es protagonizado por el señor (Ralph Fiennes), él tiene la misión de hacer una Excavación en uno de sus terrenos lo cual se convertirá en el descubrimiento de su vida.

Basil Brown, tiene una personalidad particular y su talento es sin duda particular, desde toda su vida ha sentido y vivido la arqueología y la Excavación es más que un trabajo es su pasión y por lo que vive.

Basil Brow, will go through situations where his work will be taken away by Cambridge archaeologist Charles Phillips (Ken Stott), who declares the site to be of national importance and takes over excavation. This discourages Basil Brown who asks for the attention and help of Edith Pretty, so that this is not carried by other people, but things do not go as expected and he must accept what is inevitably about to happen .

CONTINUEMOS

Todo esto se desarrolla antes de que ocurra la segunda Guerra mundial lo que genera mayor atractivo a la película, generando en el espectador la incertidumbre sobre lo que podría ocurrir, los protagonistas principales dentro de la película llevan caminos totalmente diferentes y la Excavación solo los une en ciertas partes.

Esto es interesante, ya que ni veremos una historia donde las piezas importantes de ella se unen contra un enemigo en común y solo escogen llevar a cabo algo de interés común, pero que no una sus vidas o las afecte directamente en el proceso.

Basil Brow, pasará por situaciones donde su trabajo será arrebatado por el arqueólogo de Cambridge Charles Phillips (Ken Stott), quien declara que el sitio es de importancia nacional y se hace cargo de la excavación. Esto desanima a Basil Brown el cual pide la atención y ayuda de Edith Pretty, para que esto no sea llevado por otras personas, pero las cosas no salen como esperaba y debe aceptar lo que inevitablemente esta por ocurrir.

Edith Pretty on the other hand, is going through a difficult health situation which keeps her distant from the Excavation project, which generates more anxiety and health problems because she cannot do anything about what is happening.

As the film progresses we can see how the main plot, that is, the Excavation goes to the background and we see how this indirectly affects them in her lives. Like the characters, other characters that are part of the plot without forgetting what it means to live in a place that is on the verge of the next world war, which can add more tension to the situation.

Edith Pretty por otra parte está pasando por una situación difícil de salud la cual la mantiene distante del proyecto de Excavación lo cual le genera mayor ansiedad y problemas de la salud por no poder hacer nada ante lo que está sucediendo.

A medida que la película avanza podemos ver como la trama principal es decir la Excavación pasa a segundo plano y vemos como esto los afecta indirectamente en sus vidas. Al igual que a los personajes demás personajes que forman parte de la trama sin olvidar lo que significa vivir en un lugar que está en la puerta de la próxima guerra mundial lo que puede general mayor tensión a la situación.

THE GOOD

The film to generate does not have much to offer because of how slow it is to develop and the little time they had to develop a more complete story, but it has two points that from my opinion are worth it.

From the aesthetic point of view, the film has good photography and that dark and mysterious touch that leaves you with the feeling that something is about to happen.

Claro dentro de la película no nos muestran como el acontecimiento de la próxima Guerra mundial afecta el trabajo de los personajes de la historia, pero si nos muestra la perspectiva de cada personaje ante lo que está por ocurrir, pero no afecta su trabajo, ya que es algo que ocurrirá y la preocupación de esto no tiene sentido porque ocurrirá tarde o temprano y solo queda esperar.

LO BUENO

La película en generar no tiene mucho que ofrecer por lo lento en que se desarrolla y el poco tiempo que tuvieron para poder desarrollar una historia más completa, pero tiene dos puntos que desde mi opinión valen la pena.

Desde el punto estético de la película cuenta con buena fotografía y ese toque oscuro y de misterio que te deja con la sensación de que algo está por ocurrir.

Although the film develops quickly, it shows us very interesting characters and with different stories, but within the same context of what war can mean for their lives.

THE BAD

It is a very slow film and this affects the viewer's attention when it is not developed in a way that we pay more attention to its characters or main plot. Perhaps as a mini series it could have been much better, since they could have developed the characters better.

Aunque la película se desarrolla rápidamente, nos muestra personajes muy interesantes y con historias diferentes, pero dentro del mismo contexto de lo que la guerra puede significar para sus vidas.

LO MALO

Es una película muy lenta y esto afecta la atención del espectador cuando no se desarrolla de manera que le demos mayor atención a sus personajes o trama principal. Quizás como u a mini serie pudo ser mucho mejor, ya que podrían haber desarrollado mejor a los personajes.

It is so slow and not very exciting from an emotional point of view, it leaves the film in a bad way, since it would have been the perfect bridge to connect the viewer. The protagonist's illness takes a back seat, as you can't empathize with her no matter what she's going through.

MY RATING

I would like to say that it is a good movie, but the truth is that it did not meet my expectations, it certainly took a long time to reach the viewer and connect in a positive way.

I did not feel any connection and I was left with the feeling that I wasted time watching the movie, from my humble opinion I give it 5/10 is the lowest rating I have given a movie since I started my blog.

Es tan lenta y poco emocionante desde el punto de vista emocional deja mal parada la película, ya que hubiera sido el puente perfecto para conectar al espectador. La enfermedad de la protagonista queda en segundo plano, ya que no puedes sentir empatía hacia ella sin importar por lo que esté pasando.

MI CALIFICACIÓN

Quisiera decir que es una buena película, pero la verdad no lleno mis expectativas, ciertamente le faltó muchísimo para llegar al espectador y conectar de manera positiva.
No sentí ninguna conexión y me quedo la sensación de que perdí tiempo viendo la película, desde mi humilde opinión le doy 5/10 es la calificación más baja que le he dado a una película desde que inicie mi blog.

As a mini series, it would have had more space to develop the plot and its characters, who have a lot to contribute individually but in the same context.

If you like movies that are slow and not so deep in development and you just want to see something fast, this movie is for you. But if you are looking for the opposite, the truth is not worth it.

In the end you decide if it is not worth seeing, each one of us handles different points of view.

Como mini serie hubiera tenido más espacio para desarrollar la trama y sus personajes, los cuales tienen mucho que aportar de forma individual pero en el mismo contexto.

Si te gustan las películas lentas y que no sean tan profundas en el desarrollo y solo quieres ver algo rápido, está película es para ti. Pero si buscas todo lo contrario la verdad no vale la pena.
