I just finished watching this German miniseries that had me hooked for a few days. It all begins when Lena, in the middle of the night, escapes with her daughter Hannah from somewhere where they were being held captive, but she's hit by a car and taken to the hospital. At the same time, the police notify a couple who have been searching for their missing daughter for thirteen years. Upon seeing the unconscious woman in the hospital, the man insists she isn't his daughter, even though their names and stories match. But when he sees Hannah (Lena's daughter), he's astonished because she looks exactly like Lena did at that age. From then on, the police begin working intensively to find both the kidnapper and the real Lena. However, many mysteries come to light as the plot progresses. For example, Hannah has strange behaviors such as showing her hands whenever she sees someone enter her room. She also has photosensitivity (she cannot tolerate light, much less sunlight). But the police must also work against the clock, knowing that Jonathan (Hannah's brother and supposed son of Lena) is still in the bunker where they were held captive.
Acabo de terminar de ver esta miniserie alemana que me mantuvo atrapada durante unos días. Todo comienza cuando Lena, en medio de la noche, se escapa junto con su hija Hannah de algún lugar en el cuál las tenían cautivas, pero es atropellada por alguien, así que la trasladan al hospital. Al mismo tiempo la policía avisa de lo sucedido a una pareja que ha estado buscando a su hija perdida desde hace trece años. Al ver a la mujer inconsciente en el hospital, el hombre asegura que ella no es su hija, aunque su nombre y su historia coincidan, pero al ver a Hannah (la hija de Lena) él queda asombrado porque es exactamente igual a Lena cuando tenía su edad, así que a partir de allí la policía comienza a trabajar intensamente buscando al secuestrador y a la verdadera Lena. Sin embargo muchos misterios van saliendo a flote a medida que avanza la trama, por ejemplo Hannah tiene extraños comportamientos como mostrar las manos cada vez que ve que alguien llega a su habitación, también tiene fotosensibilidad (no tolera la luz y mucho menos la luz solar) pero la policía también debe trabajar contra reloj al saber que Jonathan (el hermano de Hannah y supuesto hijo de Lena) todavía está en el bunker donde los tenían cautivos.
I won't deny that the story sometimes got a little dense, but I think that's perhaps due to the pacing, which is a bit slow at the beginning. However, the story has plot twists that add dynamism to the miniseries. In fact, there are scenes that are disconcerting and make you think a lot to try to discover who the real culprit is. The plot is designed to make you suspect everyone and trust no one, to make you form conjectures in your head that suddenly become unfounded with what happened in a certain scene or with the attitude of some character.
No les voy a negar que la historia a veces se ponía un poco densa, pero pienso que tal vez se debe al ritmo, el cuál va un poco lento al principio, sin embargo la historia tiene unos giros de trama que le aportan dinamismo a la miniserie, de hecho tiene escenas que resultan desconcertantes y que te ponen a pensar mucho para tratar de descubrir quién es el verdadero culpable, La trama está diseñada para que sospeches de todo el mundo y no confíes en nadie, para que armes conjeturas en tu cabeza que de pronto se quedan sin fundamento con lo ocurrido en determinada escena con la actitud de algún personaje.
But beyond all this, the series touches on very sensitive topics that show us the reality many people have unfortunately experienced, and could be experiencing right now: environments where violence and extreme control are commonplace. We see how Lena tries to survive and adapt to this hostile world she finds herself in, but at the same time, we see how the same situation affects children differently, as they normalize it all. It shows us the psychological scars of trauma, which are even deeper and more difficult to heal than the physical ones.
Pero más allá de todo esto la serie toca temas muy delicados que nos muestran la realidad que han vivido muchas personas lamentablemente, y que podrían estar viviendo en este momento, ambientes donde la violencia y el control extremo están a la orden del día, de esta manera vemos como "Lena" intenta sobrevivir y adaptarse a ese mundo hostil en que le ha tocado vivir, pero al mismo tiempo vemos como la misma situación afecta de manera distinta a los niños quienes normalizan todo eso. Nos muestra las secuelas sicológicas del trauma, que son aún más profundas y difíciles de sanar que las físicas.
At certain moments the series moves very dynamically, maintaining a constant atmosphere of suspense, and for the most part it handles an oppressive atmosphere that helps us to put things in context to empathize with the victims.
En determinados momentos la serie se mueve de forma muy dinámica, manteniendo un clima de suspenso constante, y en su mayoría maneja una atmósfera opresiva que nos ayuda a poner en contexto para empatizar con las victimas.
I wouldn't say it's a great miniseries, but I did like it. It made me form conjectures and hypotheses, although I only got one of them right. However, I'm not going to tell you anything about it, obviously so as not to ruin the experience or your expectations in case you want to watch the series.
No diría que es una miniserie grandiosa pero sí me gustó, me hizo armar conjeturas e hipótesis, aunque solo acerté una de ellas, sin embargo no les voy a decir nada al respecto, obviamente para no arruinar la experiencia ni las expectativas de ustedes en caso de que deseen ver la serie.
