Good day Movies and TV Shows Lovers!
We all love movies, that's for sure and I bet we love them more since this pandemic is limiting our capability of going out (movies can now be easily consumed online). And if we love movies we do also have that particular movie that we love the most. There's also that particular movie that you can consider as the best movies in your country.
If we look closely, the USA is the only country that has produced multiple best movies spanning decades of years. There's Unforgiven in 1992, Braveheart in 1995, The Patriot in 2000, Titanic in 1997, Schindler's List in 1993, The Godfather in 1972, Gone with the Wind in 1939, and many more.
In my country, the best movie that ever produced is the "Ang Panday" which was followed by three sequels (a testament to its reputation as the best).
Why "Ang Panday" is the best movie in my country
All four "Ang Panday" movies were released in 1980, 1981, 1982, and 1984 respectively and shown countless times on local television until the 1990s. It's the timing of release that coincides with the decade where stories of ghosts, mystic creatures, myths, and urban legends are very ripe that make the movie very successful. Not only that the movie has got that appeal that the masses are looking for a movie - action, adventure, fantasy, and a little bit of drama. Below is a poster of the first "Ang Panday" (The Blacksmith) movie.
Ang Panday is the best movie because it was well-received by people of all ages and gender. As far as I remember, when it is being shown on the local television no one would want to even take a pee between commercial breaks because they don't want to miss a thing in the story.
And in the following days or months after its showing children would emulate the nonchalant acting of the movie's main protagonist name "Flavio" who is played by none other than the one we called "King of Philippine Movie", Fernando Poe, Jr.
I was actually born in the 1990s but I also fell in love with the movie and its three sequels. I also watched them multiple times thereafter (a testament to how great the movie is, by the way, not only me but all the members of my family do watch the movie and its sequels multiple times).
The Characters
Flavio (Fernando Poe, Jr.)
Flavio is the main protagonist of the movie. People called him Panday (blacksmith) because of his profession as a blacksmith. Below is a photo of Flavio holding his dagger that he used to defeat his archnemesis, Lizardo.
Lizardo (Max Alvarado)
Lizardo is the main antagonist of the movie. He was the one responsible for all the bad things that are happening in the town where Flavio is living. He also owns a sword that he used in his battle with Flavio.
Lando (Bentot Jr. born Luisito "Louie" Garcia Medina)
He is one of the sidekicks of Flavio in the movie, he was in awe of Flavio's skill in sword fighting. As a sidekick, he goes wherever Flavio goes.
Monica (Liz Alindogan)
Monica was the love interest of Flavio in the movie. She was the one Flavio saved in the river at the hands of Lizardo's men.
Pilo (Paquito Diaz)
Pilo is Lizardo's top henchman, he was the one that does all the job being ordered by Lizardo.
Tata Temio (Lito Anzures)
Tata Temio is the main sidekick of Flavio. He was the one who discovered how to defeat Lizardo (by the use of the Black Book). He was wise and commonly gave advice to Flavio throughout the movie. Without him, Flavio would not be able to fulfill his destiny as a Legend.
After this movie, the three sequels are Pagbabalik ng Panday (1981), Ang Panday: Ikatlong Yugto (1982), and Ang Panday IV: Ika-Apat Na Aklat (1984). I also watched all of the sequels multiple times because they were very good sequels just like the first one.
To be honest, while I was writing this article and taking screenshot of the main character and still easily hooked to the movie because of its storyline and the nonchalant acting of all the actors and actresses. And to tell you the truth I will watch it again after I finished writing this article, that how good this movie is.
And that all about the best movie in my country, Ang Panday.
See yah! Take care!
