About
The "Passengers" movie was released on December 21, 2016. It is a science fiction romance film written by Jon Spaihts and directed by Morten Tyldum. It stars "Hunger game's" major character ***Jennifer Lawrence*** and also the Starlord of the "Guardian of the Galaxy" Chris Patt (damn did he do justice to this role) as lead roles, and then with Micheal Speen and Laurence Fishburne in supporting. It actually shows a journey to another world through a spacecraft.
For a movie that great, it sure had very view casts and it's sure great to see how much technology can be used to bring about something wonderful.
Plot
The spacecraft called the avalon transports 5000 colonist and 258 crew members from earth to another planet called the Homestead II in a pob meant for hibernation. The journey was supposed to last for 120 years but then the space ship gets hit by an asteroid 30years into the journey and an engineer "Jim preston" gets awoken by a malfunction.
He then finds out that he's the only one that has been awake in a ship of 5000 people and what's worse is that he's woken up 90years too early. His only companion was a barman robot called Arthur for a year and that drove he crazy enough to attempt suicide. But instead of die he notices a pod with a beautiful young woman Aurora Lane and immediately felt drawn to her. What follows was a series of battle with himself to not revive her and Rob her of her life on the desired planet.
Loneliness gets the better of him and he awakens her. He then asks his Robot friend not to reveal what he'd done to Aurora after making her believe it was a malfunction. The two lived and discovered they had nothing in common in their lives. Aurora was an high born, a writer and a journalist while Jim was just a mechanic engineer. However, time together brought them close to each other and they soon fall in love.
Jim then goes on to attempt a proposal and on that day every thing goes wrong. Arthur after hearing Jim say that there was no more secrets between them goes on to reveal the truth of Aurora's awakening to her. Things goes bad and Aurora becomes angry and violent. The two even went on to start avoiding each other.
Meanwhile another pod malfunction wakes Gus a deck chief officer who goes on to discover that a lot of things were wrong with the ship and if not fully repaired they'll not reach their ideal destination. Gus brings Aurora and Jim together to help him work on the ship. The pod failure however affects Gus's health and he ends up dying giving them his ID to allow them have access to crew only area and repair the ship.
Things goes worst as the damages done to the ship becomes dire. The two have to embark on dangerous tasks. Jim has to spacewalk to be able vent the plama using manual controls. In the process his spacesuit gets damaged and he loses oxygen. Aurora terrified, also goes into space to retrieve Jim. She finds his dead body and retrieves it into the ship and manages to revive him using the autodoc in the Avalon. The ship goes back to normal after the reaction has been repaired.
After eighty - eight years later, the ship's crew is awakened right on time and they discover the wonderful developments Jim and Aurora had done on the ship. There were trees, vegetations, flying birds and a little cabin.
My Views
I must say I really enjoyed the movie. Most space movies I watch actually become boring at some point because it's obvious that it'll end up in some kind of way.
It also got me thinking, can you actually just know that this is your soul mate immediately you see them?. I guess it's quite possible. Jim immediately knew that this was the woman he was willing to share his entire life with when he saw her lying in that pod.
I also wondered, would Aurora had even looked at Jim a second glace if they had met in that planet?. Obviously not!.. Sometimes love just needs the right atmosphere to thrive. Being alone on the ship actually made them appreciate each other both flawed and not.
The story is a nice one and I recommend it for you...go watch it if you haven't!.
