The Premis of the show
The Sandman tells the story of Dream, the titular Sandman. It stars Tom Sturridge as Dream, with Gwendoline Christie, Vivienne Acheampong, Boyd Holbrook, Charles Dance, Asim Chaudhry, and Sanjeev Bhaskar in supporting roles.
In 1916, Morpheus, the king of dreams and one of the seven Endless, is captured in an occult ritual. After being held captive for 106 years, Morpheus escapes and sets out to restore order to his kingdom of the Dreaming.
As I have not read any of the graphic novels or comics that take place in this universe created by Neil Gaiman. I thought I would share my experience with you as I watch this series. I have however watched the trailer back when it was first released, and that did a good job I thought of teasing the viewer, leaving them with a wanting to see and explore the show.
Episode 2
This episode was a fairly short one, at just over 34 min. And I have to say I felt it was a pretty lackluster second episode. Basically, it was mostly a bunch of exposition giving us the viewers information we need about what Morpheus wants to do.
And in doing so it showed us that he is not very clever, or he is still feeling the effects of being locked in a glad ball for over 100 years.
The effect was pretty much meh.
But he is probably saved by the fact that the bad guy is equally inept. But he has nothing to blame for being it. Well, other than he looks pretty funky with teths for eyes.
And if they were not going for "stupid and meh menacing" then I would say they missed the mark with the bad guy. Or how else are we supposed to interpret the following? A woman speaks on the phone to several people, speaking different languages on each call. Making deals for very valuable artifacts. The bady then shows up and tells her she was tricky to find.
This is just after the bad guy was made aware of the fact Morpheus was free. So he can't have spent that much time looking for the woman. Why so? Because if she wanted to stay hidden then she would not have spent the last 100 years making connections all over the world in high-end antiquity. That means a lot of people know her or of her.
So either he thinks spending a day looking for someone means they are hard to find. Or he has spent the better part of the last 100 years trying to find her only to now luck out? Either way, the bad guy comes off as a not-so-smart guy.
So let us see if the show can turn around an ok start with promise into a meh second episode into something good.
