Movie time
and I watch a lot of movies together. Occasionally I even make the time to watch them alone in my free time, although not nearly as frequent as with her. I present to you today, six different films that I have watched over the last few weeks. Several of these films are great, others are good, and some of them was just okay. If you are curious to know which ones I would recommend that you watch, continue reading this post. Or just enjoy the summaries and trailers provided.
The world ablaze
A family struggles for survival in the face of a cataclysmic natural disaster.
Don't be fooled by the title of this movie, it actually takes place in eastern USA. Reliable actor Gerard Butler stars in this film and gives us more of what we are used to receiving from him. Solid acting.
John and Allison are the husband, but they are on the verge of a divorce. This is quickly disrupted when they are forced to deal with the fact that a planet-killing comet is headed towards Earth. Their young son Nathan is diabetic, which makes their journey towards surviving even more chaotic. Entire cities begin to be wiped off the map one by one all across the world. The mainstream media of course tries to downplay the dangers of the comet's fragments. As you can imagine, most people start going into panic mode and making things worse than they need to be. There is a countdown until Earth's doom, but is there still a way to survive?
This movie is full of moments where you want to choke the characters out for being so gullible. If you ever needed a film to make you not ever want to have kids, this would be a good one. The little boy requires so much attention and functions as if his parents will do everything for him.
I actually enjoyed watching this film, despite it being less than perfect. The special effects are pretty awesome in this movie and the comet gets plenty of time on screen. Plus I always seem to enjoy Gerard Butler, ever since seeing him in 300 back in 2006. His natural Scottish accent is in full force here, which is very entertaining.
Check out the trailer to this movie. I totally think its worth watching if you're into this kind of end of the world scenario.
Slow and steady
The peaceful town of Centerville finds itself battling a zombie horde as the dead start rising from their graves.
I found out about this film thanks to this post by . You should totally give him a follow if you like keeping up with movies and tv shows. He actually did not recommend this movie in his post, but I had to give it a chance anyway. I love zombies and
loves Adam Driver.
Let me start with the best part about this movie. The zombies! My goodness, for some reason these were some of my favorite zombies in a movie for quite some time. They are very human-like, but still obviously undead. The first time I saw them and noticed how intricately they walked, I was enjoying myself quite a bit. Hands down I say check this out just to get a look at how cool the zombies are. Cof-fee... Cof-fee. You'll learn what that means.
That's sadly about all there is good about the movie. The humor was dry and didn't make me laugh out loud once. The scenes seemed to go by very slow and there were not very many exciting moments. The ending sucks, but at least they tell you that going in. There was some good cinematography. I can't hate on everything about the movie, but it just wasn't a favorite. Somehow I am still happy that I took the time to watch this movie.
This is not necessarily me telling you to go watch this film. However if you are ever in the mood to see some unique zombies, maybe turn this one on and skip to the first scene that has a zombie. Here is the trailer for your viewing convenience.
Discover the unseen
An underwater cave diving team experiences a life-threatening crisis during an expedition to the unexplored and least accessible cave system in the world.
I have no idea how on earth I missed this film back in 2011. Oh wait, that was right at the start of a two year period in my life where all I wanted to do was party. That was a blurry time, I wasn't thinking about movies very much back then.
I am so happy that I finally watched this film. James Cameron is a savant and has yet to fail with anything from his mind that I have seen. This movie is something spectacular. You will witness things that you have never looked at before. That is one major thing that I love about Cameron's movies, he really gets out there and films in some incredible places. This time it is the South Pacific's Esa-ala Caves in Papua New Guinea. It is truly amazing that this world houses such tantalizing landscapes.
I have never went diving in the sea, but this movie introduced me to how cool it must be. There are some technical aspects that teach you about what you would need to know if you ever went diving. I really enjoy authentic information presented in the form of a well produced movie. It is one of my favorite ways to learn in fact.
The characters were all at least decent, some better than others. I don't want to spoil the plot for you. Basically it comes down to some cavers going deeper in an unexplored place than anyone else has ever gone. There is a tropical storm and the cave becomes more submerged in water than it was before. This leaves the team to find a way out of a seeming endless maze before they perish.
This movie is 100% a must see. Most of you probably saw it back in the day, unlike me. If you somehow managed to skip over it like I did, add this to your up next list as soon as possible. Watch the trailer if you don't believe me.
Backwoods fight for survival
A family of fur trappers is threatened when they think they are being hunted by a lone wolf.
This isn't the best movie on this list, but it sure was my personal favorite. I'm so glad that picked this movie out. I had never heard of it before. No it is not related to the Hunter x Hunter anime.
A father, mother, and daddy's girl live out in the middle of the forest. This is set in modern day times, but the family lives a rural lifestyle from our past. They rely on trapping and selling animal furs while living off the food they earn through hunting. The thing is they do not earn the same profit as they once did and they are not the only predators. Life is always hard, but out there it's even harder. Soon a decision to stay far out or move to the city begins to arise.
Their home is still that of nature. This means they are just as much a predator/prey as the animals that live in the very same forest. This is what they have always known, nothing can make them leave their home. Not even the threat that has come and gone again while they endure the brutalities of life. This time the deadly lone wolf has made its way closer to home than ever. It finally comes time for the father to go out on a hunt by himself to solve the problem. This leaves the mother and daughter (who are both adept hunters, just not quite as much as the dad & the daughter more qualified than the mother) to defend the home as a duo.
There are countless plot twists in this movie. Some scenes are very gruesome, but to me it was just natural life playing out. I really enjoyed this movie for a lot of reasons. One of the main points being the fact that my family lineage is full of hunters. I never really got into the hunt, but I have always appreciated it. This movie gave me the look into the binoculars that I had since avoided peering into prior.
Watch this movie soon. You will learn many new things, watch some people sniff animal poo, and be shocked to see how it ends. The trailer is sure to get you hyped.
Kill or be killed
An elite Navy SEAL, goes on a path to avenge his wife's murder only to find himself inside of a larger conspiracy.
Did somebody say "Tom Clancy in 4K?"
This was an instant watch for me. The first night that I had all to myself after work, I watched this new release on my 4K Sony tv. Action-packed would be an understatement. If you're into Warzone, know that this film brings COD to life with the help of Michael B. Jordan as Senior Chief John Kelly.
The absolute worst betrayal happens to John after he gives nearly everything to his country. The backstabbers soon learn to play by the rules of a deadly soldier, no remorse. If you have a nice tv and sound system, then get ready for a great time. I really don't need to say anymore. This movie is exactly what it looks like it is.
Watch the trailer to get an idea of just how bad ass Senior Chief Kelly really is.
Mistrust your senses
An artist relocates to the Hudson Valley and begins to suspect that her marriage has a sinister darkness, one that rivals her new home's history.
Giving up all of your hopes and dreams to please your significant other. It is something not everyone can do, only the ones who have understand just how difficult it is. This movie takes that idea to great lengths and adds a mystery/horror spin to it.
A once in a lifetime painter wife is convinced that she must follow her husband to live in a rustic farmhouse and put her art career on the back-burner. The husband leaves many details out and both the viewer and wife learn the truth gradually. This continually keeps the plot feeling interesting and surprising. The husband does some somewhat predictable things, but seeing it happen will just make you go WTF no matter what.
Temptation and death will both be familiar to you after finishing this movie. It was one of the better movies on this list, but still near the middle of the road. Watch the trailer and see if it is your cup of tea.
