Welcome back to Texas 🤠⛓🪚🩸
Hollywood has done it again. It is obviously much easier to reuse an old story than to create a new one. 2021 saw the release of Halloween Kills and my god was that film horrific. Then the new Scream movie came out this year. I have been hesitant to go see that one in theaters since Halloween was so dreadful. I don't trust these horror re-releases in the least bit.
I stumbled upon the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre on Netflix recently. I had no idea this was coming and I wouldn't have cared at all if it weren't so easy to stream it from the comfort of my bed. I didn't have high hopes for this one, but I was going to give it a chance. I really hate how they aren't giving movies like Scream and Texas Chainsaw Massacre different names, these re-boots are making it so hard to do Google searches for movies with the exact same name.
I cannot compare TCM to Scream yet, but I can say without a doubt that it was superior to Halloween Kills. Still not the best horror film ever and very far from the original, but there were some things that I liked about Netflix's TCM movie.
One thing I did not like about this new TCM is all of the main characters. I wanted all of them to die pretty much as soon as I met them. It's a group of young adults who are looking to buy a mostly abandoned town in the middle of nowhere Texas. They are hoping to revamp this location and turn it into some sort of new-age town. If you are annoyed by the general narrative that is being pushed these days, then you too will hate these guys and gals.
Lucky for us, the town they picked is where Leatherface is living after the old TCM movies. It seems he has stopped killing until certain things happen that leave the man no other choice but to go on another rampage. There are not many surprises to this plot, except a lot of blood and gore.
Speaking of death, that really is the only part of this film that I really thought was good. Most of the kills in this movie are incredibly violent and often even pretty creative. I was so happy to see characters get taken out one by one get what they deserved.
Don't expect this film to be super realistic or filled with interesting people. You will mostly just be waiting for people to get murdered while watching TCM. That may be exactly what you are looking for in a film though. If that is the case, cuddle up and watch this sometime. I would love to know if anybody can confirm whether the new Scream is better than Texas Chainsaw Massacre. If you know, leave a comment below.
Check out the trailer for TCM and fire it up on Netflix if you have any desire at all to see a vicious spree from a familiar psycho.
