Past meets the future 🤝
The year is 2050 and the world is more technologically advanced than ever. Pilots are able to fly into space, weapons are far more powerful than what we have now, and time travel exists. That all sounds great, but a pilot named Adam (Ryan Reynolds) aims to go back in time and make sure time travel is never created.
This film is another of Netflix's big-budget movies packed with star talent. You of course have Ryan Reynolds, but also Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo, Zoe Saldaña, and a few more great actors. The Adam Project fits into the sci-fi/action-adventure/comedy genres. It is not over any of those types of film, but rather a balanced blend of them.
Adam travels back in time to meet his 12-year-old self and attempt to keep his father from inventing time travel. That sounds easy enough, but trust me when I say it definitely is not smooth sailing. Older Adam is being chased by the authorities from his present time and younger Adam is stuck tagging along since they have the same DNA. The spaceship/jet is highly advanced and responds to DNA and knowns when you are too injured to drive. This makes young Adam integral to finishing the mission.
There are a lot of lessons to be learned in this film. Adam is able to see himself and all of the mistakes he made at a young age. He never stood up for himself against bullies, he was not very nice to his mother, and a few more things I won't spoil. This movie can be sad at times, but mostly it will have you laughing and just having a good time watching Ryan Reynolds be a badass.
One of my favorite parts of the film was Adam's familiar weapons of choice. His "not a lightsaber" is basically a lightsaber. That means you get to see Ryan Reynolds have lightsaber duels! I definitely didn't expect that. I also didn't expect this movie to have such a good soundtrack, but I think many will agree with me that the music is great.
The Adam Project probably isn't going to be the best sci-fi movie of the year, but it is still a pretty good one. Obviously, any fan of aircraft and piloting will love this. Plus all Ryan Reynolds fans will be happy to see him doing his thing again. Kids will align with young Adam and the rest of the characters fit in well. The whole aspect of time-traveling is just very interesting to explore.
The trailer for the movie is below and it is out on Netflix now.
