A great crime thriller
The Informer is yet another special discovery that I made while browsing the streaming options on Prime Video. Here lately I’ve been having a lot of luck with the movies I’ve been watching. I saw that Clive Owen was in this movie and the synopsis sounded pretty cool, so and I gave it a shot last night. I was surprised that the movie was even better than I expected it to be. Let me tell you why.
What is The Informer
An ex-convict working undercover intentionally gets himself incarcerated again in order to infiltrate the mob at a maximum security prison.
Choose your enemies wisely
This film is a tale of betrayal, hopelessness, and doing what you must for your family. Don't expect over the top special effects, but do expect a story that actually grips you.
Moving fentanyl for the Polish pays well, but comes with many negative side effects. These gangsters are hardened and care about nothing but profit. Doing anything behind their back will surely mean your own demise.
The life of Pete Koslow (Joel Kinnaman) is gritty and far from easy. This crime drama is full of tense situations and curveballs. There is no slowing down with this movie, scene after scene is full of excitement.
Nothing cheesy here either, you really get a sense of just how far one will go to be a good father/husband. If you miss how movies used to be, The Informer is perfect for you.
Joel Kinnaman
When I started this movie I felt like I had seen the lead actor Joel Kinnaman before. It wasn’t until the very end that I realized where I knew him from. He played Takeshi Kovacs in the first season of one of my all-time favorite tv shows Altered Carbon. He also was the main character in the remake of RoboCop that released in 2014. He’s played many prominent roles and usually seems to do a great job in my opinion. He’s not as popular as the big budget names, but I always seem to enjoy the movies/tv shows that he plays in. Kinnaman’s role in The Informer is one of the biggest reasons why the movie so strong.
Watching this movie made me want to check out more films that feature Joel Kinnaman. Pretty much all of the movies in his filmography are releases that I haven’t seen yet. This means any time that I can’t find something to watch I can just try out another movie that he’s in.
My Rating
The was not a big budget film, but there was just so much that was good about The Informer. The casting was superb, every actor just felt like they were perfect for their role. Even Common playing an NYPD officer worked very well.
The sound and cinematography were pretty great too. The angles from the final prison scene were very clever. I would have preferred more at the end, but at least it was wrapped up instead of dragging on for an eternity.
Overall I really loved how this movie was realistic and just kept me drawn in. I definitely recommend that you check it out sometime.
8.5/10
