Welcome to The White Lotus. A beautiful resort in Hawaii where many wealthy people go to enjoy the vacation. The staff is there to serve and the guests are treated like royalty. Sounds quite idyllic, doesn't it? This 7-episode series is available on HBO Max and it is worth every second of your watch time.

Three separate travel groups arrive at the resort on the same boat. The Mossbacher family, the newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. Patton, and solo-traveler Tanya McQuoid. The Mossbachers consist of a mother/Nicole, father/Mark, son/Quinn, daughter/Olivia, and her friend Paula. Rachel and Shane Patton are freshly married and ready to enjoy their honeymoon. Tanya is having a mental breakdown and plans to spread her mother's ashes in the ocean. These groups of people along with the resort employees make for countless awkward and mirthful situations.

If cringe were a film genre, The White Lotus would be in it. There are so many instances that make you glad you are not one of the guests or workers at this resort. The good thing is, all of it is enjoyable from a cozy position on your couch or bed. This is a fantastic comedy filled with familiar faces such as Steve Zahn (Strange Wilderness), Jennifer Coolidge (American Pie), Alexandra Daddario (Baywatch), Connie Britton (American Horror Story), Fred Hechinger (Fear Street), Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria), and more.

The Mossbachers are an odd bunch. Nicole is a busy breadwinner who is at the top of a highly profitable tech company. Mark is a dad who doesn't quite understand what it means to be a father or husband. Quinn is socially awkward and is obsessed with his Nintendo Switch and being on his devices. Olivia is a spoiled daughter who is onboard with all of the worst agendas being pushed in our reality today. Paula is kind of just stuck in the middle of all the craziness and would rather just get high. You will probably love this family for how funny they are and hate them for how privileged they are.

Rachel and Shane Patton may be fresh off the alter, but it doesn't seem like a good match. Rachel is a hopeful journalist, but she honestly has no idea what she wants in life. Shane is a momma's boy from a rich family. This dude is so dumb and cares about the silliest things. When this incompatible duo can be seen clearly forcing themselves together, it causes so many hilarious things to occur.

Tanya is a drunk, there is no other way to put it. She has been mentally abused her entire life and lacks self-confidence, despite somehow having unlimited money. She plans to release her mother's ashes, but she just doesn't know how to go about it. Her breakdowns and obsessions will have you cringing often, but feeling for her at the same time.

The staff of the hotel is where some of the best characters are. Armond is the head of the place and he is probably the most interesting character. He handles business in the most professional manner, but deep down he is battling addictions. His battles against Shane never cease to be entertaining. Armond's best employee is spa manager Belinda, who becomes close with Tanya after an appointment together. There are other workers who add in bits of comedic relief too.

This show is so freaking funny, but there is a lot more to the story than just that. Every person seems to be out for themselves and most of them are pretty ungrateful for what they have. Sometimes it takes terrible things to wake people up to the fact that their lives are pretty amazing. Did I mention there may or may not be a murder at some point?

You really do need to take the time to watch The White Lotus, if you have not done so already. Season 2 has already been green-lit, although it is planned to be an anthology-style series with different characters and locations each season. Here is the trailer for Season 1. Don't be surprised if you end up looking up the soundtrack on your favorite music streaming app once you get hooked on this show.
