El cortometraje ha estado presente desde el inicio del cine o más bien se pudiera afirmar que el cine se inició con los cortos. Como muestra de esta afirmación se encuentra el trabajo de Alice Guy Blache VER

El corto en la actualidad ha tenido un gran repunte por los múltiples beneficios que trae principalmente a los nuevos creadores y que tiene que ver con los bajos costos de producción así como la “facilidad” que hoy en día las nuevas tecnologías aportan para su realización.

Lo cierto es que disfruto mucho el verlos y analizarlos porque en ellos se narra de una forma breve una historia intensa donde es necesario tener una gran capacidad de síntesis para que, en su breve tiempo de realización, el mensaje llegue con toda la carga de intención que su realizador desea transmitir.

Hoy les comento dos cortos animados, veamos:

Canvas (El lienzo)

Canvas es un film que nos relata la historia de un anciano pintor que se encuentra en silla de ruedas, ha perdido a su esposa, la musa se ha evaporado, la tristeza lo embarga sin encontrar motivación ni inspiración. Sus días transcurren navegando en la nada y alimentando la amargura de la soledad y la indefensión. Su pequeña nieta, con la curiosidad propia de los niños lo va llevando a superar el duelo y a reencontrarse con su esencia.

Es una producción creada y dirigida por el animador Frank E. Abney III, conocido por grandes éxitos como Kung Fu Panda y Coco, entre otros. Con unos dibujos que asombran por su realismo y expresión, Abney, se vale del estímulo a los sentidos para crear diferentes grados de intensidad haciendo al espectador partícipe del momento.

Entre el juego de las luces, las tonalidades cálidas, los sonidos que los objetos van produciendo como las pisadas sobre un piso de madera o el chirrido de la silla, más las texturas casi palpables, en los primeros sesenta segundos, ya te encuentras inmerso en la trama y, a medida que va avanzando un sentimiento profundo se extiende hasta llegar a sentir el dolor de la ausencia que sufre el personaje … La banda sonora también es protagonista estelar, va tan acompasada con lo que vemos y sentimos que no se extraña en ningún momento las palabras no pronunciadas… Puro arte.

Si algo me pasa, los quiero

Si Canvas es conmovedora y altamente emotiva, “Si algo me pasa, los quiero” es desgarradora. El cortometraje de animación nos plantea el proceso del duelo familiar a través de la muerte trágica de una hija pero, va más allá, porque si bien, este es el desencadenante de la trama su centro es como la pareja se distancia por la pérdida, donde cada padre se introduce en su espacio individual no siendo apoyo el uno para el otro y tratar de sobrellevar el duelo juntos.

La niña, sigue siendo presencia y se las ingenia para que sus padres comprendan que los quiere ver juntos y que ella está y estará bien. Basada en la concepción de que los que abandonan este plano no pueden terminar de irse mientras sean llorados y recordados con las cargas de la tristeza y el dolor.

El cortometraje escrito y dirigido por Will McCormack y Michale Govier (2020) trabaja magistralmente los simbolismos para ir narrando una historia que no tiene diálogos y lo logran muy bien. Los tonos blancos y grises, los rostros compungidos, la música que define el ritmo narrativo van creando una atmosfera de desolación al que solo le agregando otros colores en cada detalle que los padres traen a su memoria cuando recuerdan a la niña. Una bandera nos indica donde suceden los hechos y recurren, a la memoria colectiva que, sin ninguna escena de violencia y solo un mensaje de texto, nos hace comprender lo que aconteció en esa escuela.

En este punto la película salta del planteamiento del duelo individual al acontecer social, de una manera no directa, los realizadores, nos hacen ver el problema social, donde los niños corren un alto riesgo dentro de las instituciones escolares, un riesgo, que bajo ningún argumento tiene justificación y que puede ser minimizado efectivamente con una medidas puntales y así evitar tragedias que enluten muchos hogares de manera, si se quiere, tan injusta y al azar.

Ambos cortos nos plantean profundos y dolorosos sentimientos y si hay un mensaje intencionado es que los que se van quieren y desean que continuemos con nuestras vidas.

Canvas

Canvas is a film that tells the story of an old painter who is in a wheelchair, he has lost his wife, the muse has evaporated, sadness overwhelms him without finding motivation or inspiration. If Canvas is touching and highly emotional, "If something happens to me, I love them" is heartbreaking. The animated short film presents us with the process of family grief through the tragic death of a daughter, but it goes beyond that, because although this is the trigger of the plot, its center is how the couple is distanced by the loss, where each parent goes into their individual space, not being supportive of each other and trying to cope with the grief together.

The girl, still a presence, manages to make her parents understand that she wants to see them together and that she is and will be fine. Based on the conception that those who leave this plane cannot finish leaving as long as they are mourned and remembered with the burdens of sadness and pain.

The short film written and directed by Will McCormack and Michale Govier (2020) masterfully works the symbolisms to narrate a story that has no dialogue and they do it very well. The white and gray tones, the mournful faces, the music that defines the narrative rhythm create an atmosphere of desolation to which they only add other colors in each detail that the parents bring to their memory when they remember the girl. A flag indicates where the events take place and they resort to the collective memory that, without any scene of violence and only a text message, makes us understand what happened in that school.

At this point the film jumps from individual mourning to social events, in a non-direct way, the filmmakers make us see the social problem, where children are at high risk in schools, a risk that under no argument has justification and that can be effectively minimized with a punctual measures and thus avoid tragedies that mourn many homes in a way, if you will, so unfair and random.

Both shorts raise deep and painful feelings and if there is an intentional message, it is that those who are leaving want and wish us to continue with our lives.
