Hello and good day, my fellow HIVE-keepers! Today I am going to post about one of my favorite crime-busting movies, The Untouchables (released in 1987).
The Untouchables (1987) is a feature film that tells the story of the battle between Al Capone, a notorious Chicago Mafia crime lord, and Eliot Ness, a federal agent, during the American Prohibition Era in the early 1930s. Kevin Costner stars as Ness, who is tasked with putting Capone in jail, but struggles as Capone is so popular and powerful that Ness is not taken seriously by his fellow lawmen or the media.
Ness eventually meets Jimmy Malone, an honest veteran patrolman, who helps him recruit a team of crime-fighters, including a rookie cop sharpshooter George Stone and government accountant Oscar Wallace. Together, they go after Capone and his illegal business interests, using sometimes law-bending tactics that enrage Capone and lead to violent retaliation.
Ultimately, Capone's downfall comes from his minor crime of tax evasion. The film features well-known actors from the 1970s and 1980s, a large budget, and film credits include script from playwright David Mamet, with emotional music by Ennio Morricone and stylish period costumes by Giorgio Armani. Director Brian De Palma creates suspenseful action scenes, including a tense train station stairway shoot-out.
Unlike some modern films that glamorize criminals, The Untouchables presents morally good heroes fighting hatefully evil villains. The film celebrates ordinary crime-fighting heroes who use their bravery and wits to uphold the law and justice.
