Of course, that was when I was a kid, and thinking in retrospect, I don't think there are many kids who enjoy the drama genre. As years went by, I don't remember the exact year or movie that triggered a change in my taste, but eventually, I started to appreciate movies and series belonging to this genre. It also became clear to me why the majority of acting awards are given to actors that participate in drama productions.
Nowadays, I absolutely loved a good drama, and if it is based on real-life events that I don't know about, this adds more reasons to give it a watch. Such is the case of this film called House of Gucci. All I knew about Gucci is that it is just a clothing brand and that's it. I didn't know anything about the family issues nor about the horrible crime that ended up tainting the Gucci brand.
What was the movie about?
The movie is mainly about the lives of both Patrizia Reggiani and Maurizio Gucci. They meet at a party at the beginning of the film, and it becomes quite clear Patrizia is quite impressed by Maurizio. They become a couple rather quickly and immediately fall in love, wishing to spend their lives together.
Maurizio, despite being an inheritor of 50% of Gucci's shares, isn't really interested in this company and his only goal appears to be to share his life with Patrizia. This obviously caused problems with his father, who was a much more strategic person, and this can be seen as the beginning of a family drama that will last for many years.
The film explores the Machiavellianism of Patrizia Reggiani, who from the beginning started to plan how she could gain power inside the Gucci dynasty and company. She is portrayed as the trigger of many conflicts inside the Gucci family, and maybe, some of the horrible things that happened to them in the future, wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for Patrizia's influence.
There are other 3 Gucci family members in the story apart from Maurizio. His father Rodolfo, who is a very old man and has deteriorating health. Rodolfo was the son of Gucci's founder and when the movie begins, Rodolfo and his brother Adol, are the 2 main bosses of Gucci.
The remaining Gucci character is Paolo, Aldo's son who is sadly not very smart but has great artistic skills that allowed him to design some clothing lines for the Gucci company for quite some time.

Hoy en día, me encanta un buen drama, y si se basa en hechos de la vida real que no conozco, esto agrega más razones para darle un vistazo. Tal es el caso de esta película llamada House of Gucci. Todo lo que sabía sobre Gucci es que es solo una marca de ropa y ya. No sabía nada sobre los problemas familiares ni sobre el horrible crimen que terminó manchando la marca Gucci.
¿De qué trataba la película?
La película trata principalmente sobre la vida de Patrizia Reggiani y Maurizio Gucci. Se encuentran en una fiesta al comienzo de la película, y queda bastante claro que Patrizia está bastante impresionada con Maurizio. Se convierten en pareja con bastante rapidez y se enamoran de inmediato, deseando pasar la vida juntos.

The conflicts will begin to appear and increase in magnitude as Patrizia gets more involved both in the family and in the company, and over the years, things will escalate and massive hostility will be reached.
Given the fact the story covers a couple of decades, the film sometimes takes big jumps in time but this was necessary to provide proper coverage to the main events from the moment Maurizio and Patrizia met for the first time, to the very end of this tragic story.
The story can be quite sad, but it is also a great example of how horrific clashes can happen when people become desperate to gain money and power.
Main names associated with the film
The director was the well-known Ridley Scott, who is constantly working in amazing productions, and in recent times, he has worked in the series Raised by Wolves, The Last Duel, and Alien: Covenant.
The film had 2 main writers, Becky Johnston who started her writing career in the 80s but without much consistency because so far she has only participated in 6 productions. Besides House of Gucci, some of her previous works were in Arthur Newman and Seven Years in Tibet.
Roberto Bentivegna was the other main writer of the film, and this was the first time he worked in a regular-length production, all of his previous works were in shorts. Many people don't know about shorts, and if that's your case, I can recommend you to check out some Youtube channels such as the several Omeleto channels, Alter and Dust. I have found shorts that have the same quality as major productions, and they are all available for free in channels such as those.
The popular singer Lady Gaga plays one of the main characters, Patrizia Reggiani. A Machiavellian woman who is always thinking about what she can do to achieve her plans and ambitions.

Al Pacino and Jared Leto also played 2 members of the Gucci family with secondary roles in this movie, and I dare you to recognize which is Jared Leto's role because he and the makeup department made use of excellent chameleon skills, and truth be told, his character looks completely different than normal Jared Leto.
How were the performance from the cast and the scenery?
The performance from such an awesome cast was excellent. It has been quite a while since I last watched a production with so many top-tier actors and actresses. I am happy to say they did a great job playing all these various roles, and the movie was very enjoyable as a result.
I was particularly impressed about Lady Gaga's performance, I think the last time I saw her as an actress was in the Hotel season of AHS, and in that series, I remember her performance being just regular. In this film, however, she made an excellent job portraying all of the intense emotions including a lot of the frustration her character go through. Her performance was certainly my favorite one of the entire film.
The scenery is what one could expect knowing the story is about a dynasty from the fashion industry. It provided a lot of different settings, and most of them were very luxurious and elegant.
Final thoughts
House of Gucci was a pretty decent drama about the real-life story of Maurizio Gucci and Patrizia Reggiani. The story covers a couple decades of their lives, and coupled with the excellent performances, this was both an enjoyable but also culturally educative watching.
I am sure people who have a liking for the drama genre will find this film very enjoyable. It lasts around 2.5 hours but I didn't feel it lasted long because as I just mentioned, the story simply covers a lot of time and they did a good job including the events that served as triggers for other much more important incidents. I can easily recommend this film to the majority of people.
