Hola amigos y amantes del cine; quiero compartirles mi opinión referente a la película Mulan (2020) en Live Action, junto a los detalles que me han gustado y los que me decepcionaron. Tal vez muchos de ustedes ya la vieron desde su estreno hace dos años, y como sabrás, el filme ha dado mucho de qué hablar; sobre todo por las características particulares en la que los productores decidieron cambiar la esencia de su película original.
Primero, recordemos que el estreno de esta película se vio afectado por la pandemia de coronavirus; pues tuvo que atrasar su fecha de lanzamiento en varias ocasiones, para finalmente verse obligada a estrenarse a través de la plataforma de suscripción de Disney+. No obstante, eso no fue excusa para todas las críticas que obtuvo.
Hello friends and movie lovers; I want to share my opinion about the movie Mulan (2020) in Live Action, along with the details that I liked and those that disappointed me. Perhaps many of you have already seen it since its premiere two years ago, and as you know, the film has given much to talk about; especially for the particular characteristics in which the producers decided to change the essence of their original film.
First, let's remember that the premiere of this film was affected by the coronavirus pandemic; Well, it had to delay its release date several times, to finally be forced to premiere through the Disney + subscription platform. However, that was no excuse for all the criticism it got.
Comenzando por la trama, es ligeramente diferente a lo que conocemos de la película de 1998; aunque, hay que decirlo, en gran parte mantiene la idea original sobre una joven que se une al ejército imperial para salvar a China y su padre Fa Zhou (interpretado por Tzi Ma). Pero eso tiene explicación. Según su directora Niki Caro, la intención es resaltar más el respeto a la cultura china y a mostrar una ‘guerrera bastante creíble’; además de separarla de algún sentimiento amoroso. En cambio, la película nos ofrece una buena carga de acción en batalla.
Starting with the plot, it's slightly different than what we know from the 1998 film; although, it must be said, it largely maintains the original idea about a young woman who joins the imperial army to save China and her father Fa Zhou (played by Tzi Ma). But that has an explanation. According to its director Niki Caro, the intention is to highlight more respect for Chinese culture and to show a "fairly credible warrior"; in addition to separating her from some loving feeling. Instead, the film offers us a good load of action in battle.
Aun así, otro de los puntos negativos que me parece, es que Disney eliminó por completo su estilo de musical con el que reconocemos a la mayoría de sus películas. ¿Y qué trae como consecuencia? Pues que fácilmente se puede confundir con una película de otra productora; muy similar a cualquier película china que comúnmente conocemos. Además que en esta entrega extrañamos las clásicas canciones de la película original.
Debido a esto, el estudio de cine se defendió diciendo que su intención fue hacer algo diferente y haciendo más seria la trama. Realmente pienso que esta seriedad está muy acertada en todas las acciones de batalla, e incluso ayuda a darle un aire nuevo a la historia. Pero venga, ¿quitarle la esencia original? Creo que fueron un poco radicales.
Debido a esto, el estudio de cine se defendió diciendo que su intención fue hacer algo diferente y haciendo más seria la trama. Realmente pienso que esta seriedad está muy acertada en todas las acciones de batalla, e incluso ayuda a darle un aire nuevo a la historia. Pero venga, ¿quitarle la esencia original? Even so, another of the negative points that seems to me is that Disney completely eliminated his musical style with which we recognize most of his films. And what does it bring as a consequence? Well, it can easily be confused with a film from another production company; very similar to any Chinese movie that we commonly know. Also, in this movie we miss the classic songs from the original movie.
Due to this, the film studio defended itself by saying that its intention was to do something different and making the plot more serious. I really think that this seriousness is very successful in all the battle actions, and even helps to give a new air to the story. But come on, take away the original essence? I think they were a bit radical.

No tenemos a dos personajes principales

Y ni hablar de la eliminación de dos de sus personajes principales: Mushu (el dragón parlanchín y protector de Mulan) y Li Shang (el capitán del ejército chino y con quien la protagonista tiene un romance).
Eso es similar a que en la adaptación de «La bella y la bestia» los productores decidieran omitir a Lumière (el candelabro) o Din don (el reloj), o que en la adaptación de “La Bella durmiente” eliminaran a las tres hadas madrinas. Eso amigos, en mi opinión, simplemente es parte esencial de la película.
And not to mention the elimination of two of its main characters: Mushu (the talkative dragon and protector of Mulan) and Li Shang (the captain of the Chinese army and with whom the protagonist has an affair). That is similar to the fact that in the adaptation of "Beauty and the Beast" the producers decided to omit Lumière (the chandelier) or Din don (the clock), or that in the adaptation of "Sleeping Beauty" they decided to eliminate all three fairy godmothers. That friends, in my opinion, is simply an essential part of the film.
Sin embargo, como hemos podido ver en el filme cinematográfico, en sustitución al amigable Mushu han añadido a un ave fénix para que sirva como guía espiritual de nuestra protagonista; y de cierto modo significa un guiño a nuestro pequeño amigo dragón. Pero en adición a eso, no todo es decadente, pues en esta ocasión los productores agregaron un par de nuevos personajes: Bori Khan (interpretado por Jason Scott Lee) como el guerrero rounano, y Xian Lang (interpretado por Gong Li) como una poderosa bruja que se convierte en halcón.
De cierto modo, si nos ponemos a analizar las situaciones, tiene sentido estos nuevos cambios, buscando dar un refrescamiento a la historia y ofrecer algo diferente a todos los espectadores. Aunque si tuviera la oportunidad de dar mi opinión a Disney, les diría que debieron considerar otra matriz de guión; pues, buscando mayor seriedad al asunto, pienso que cayeron en varios errores que ciertamente la gente no perdonó (de los que te comentamos en los párrafos anteriores).
De cierto modo, si nos ponemos a analizar las situaciones, tiene sentido estos nuevos cambios, buscando dar un refrescamiento a la historia y ofrecer algo diferente a todos los espectadores. Aunque si tuviera la oportunidad de dar mi opinión a Disney, les diría que debieron considerar otra matriz de guión; pues, buscando mayor seriedad al asunto, pienso que cayeron en varios errores que ciertamente la gente no perdonó (de los que te comentamos en los párrafos anteriores).

Although if I had the opportunity to give Disney my opinion, I would tell them that they should have considered another script matrix; because, seeking greater seriousness to the matter, I think they fell into several mistakes that people certainly did not forgive (of which we discussed in the previous paragraphs).

Aunque esta adaptación en Live Action de Mulan (estrenada en 2020) es un remake algo desviado de su esencia original y diferente a los clásicos que normalmente caracteriza a Disney, igualmente no podemos menospreciar toda la acción y expectativa que expresa el filme. Se trata de una película en donde la acción está muy presente, por lo que si eres fan de las películas de acción y batalla (como yo), esta es una cinta recomendada para ti.
Y en cuanto al trabajo hecho en sus escenas, coordinación y producción técnica, decirte que está muy acertada la representación de colores en cada escena: con tonos oscuros cuando se trata de momentos de incertidumbre, o con tonos refrescantes cuando estamos frente a escenas de batalla.

Although this Live Action adaptation of Mulan (released in 2020) is a somewhat deviated remake of its original essence and different from the classics that normally characterizes Disney, we still cannot underestimate all the action and expectations that the film expresses. It is a movie where the action is very present, so if you are a fan of action and battle movies (like me), this is a film recommended for you.
And as for the work done in its scenes, coordination and technical production, tell you that the representation of colors in each scene is very successful: with dark tones when it comes to moments of uncertainty, or with refreshing tones when we are facing battle scenes.

Al final, sea cual sea el caso de ser acertada o equivocada la decisión del estudio cinematográfico, verdaderamente vale la pena disfrutar de esta película que también busca mostrar el realce de la mujer como personaje fuerte y con determinación en todo momento.
In the end, regardless of whether the film studio's decision is right or wrong, it is truly worth enjoying this film that also seeks to show the enhancement of women as strong and determined characters at all times.
