La mitología griega, es un mundo fascinante que desde pequeño goza de mi aceptación. Literalmente, disfruto de cualquier material audiovisual que me lleve como pasajero por todas estas historias, de dioses y héroes. Todo comenzó cuando vi por primera vez Hércules, la icónica película de Disney que nos acompañó durante nuestra infancia.
Hoy les vengo a hablar sobre una serie que terminé de ver hace unos días; quizás no sea la gran cosa, pero me transportó de igual manera a mi infancia. Se trata de la serie "Percy Jackson y los dioses del Olimpo", una serie original de Disney estrenada en diciembre de 2023.
Esta serie, basada en la exitosa saga de novelas de Rick Riordan, agrupa contenido de alguna de las mejores adaptaciones de esta literatura juvenil para el formato televisivo. Recuerdo cuando veía las películas previas de 2010 y 2013, siempre me quedaba con dudas de saber cómo seguía la historia, por lo que me pareció genial que decidieran hacerle una serie.
Aunque después de ver sus dos primeras entregas, se nota bastante la fidelidad con que trabajaron a sus referentes. Lo que pudiera ser de cierta manera repetitivo, sin embargo, lo salva un casting impecable y una narrativa que equilibra aventura, humor y emociones humanas.
La trama sigue al joven Percy Jackson, un adolescente con dislexia que descubre que es un semidiós, especialmente hijo prohibido de Poseidón. Que se verá envuelto en una guerra divina que amenaza con destruir el Olimpo y el mundo de los mortales.
Si fuéramos a comparar la serie con las películas, diría que la serie supera por mucho las dos películas iniciales, ya que en este formato es más factible tomarse las cosas con calma, donde elementos claves como la edad de los protagonistas permiten un desarrollo más orgánico. A diferencia de las películas, que comprimieron la trama en dos largometrajes apresurados.
Uno de los aspectos más destacados en esta serie, aparte de lo visual y los efectos especiales, en los que no escatimaron. Sin lugar a dudas fue el casting, destacándose en este pilar el joven actor Walker Scobell, en el rol de Percy. Este chico le irradia carisma y vulnerabilidad a la historia, sin caer en esos estereotipos del héroe adolescente sobreactuado.
Le siguen el ritmo los actores Leah Jeffries como Annabeth Chase y Aryan Simhadri como Grover Underwood, los que completan, dígase de alguna manera, ese trío dinámico que evoca el poder de la amistad. Siempre con el uso de diálogos que fluyen sobre lo natural y que exploran temas como la diversidad, la lealtad y el autodescubrimiento.
Visualmente, no se puede negar que la producción de Disney+ estuvo brillando, destacando la magia de lo mítico en paisajes fantásticos, donde se nota que priorizaron calidad sobre cantidad. Lo que vuelve a "Percy Jackson y los dioses del Olimpo" una serie refrescante y atractiva, para el público joven y los no tan jóvenes.
Ya que la serie aborda temas maduros, sensibles, como el trauma familiar y la identidad, lo que la hace accesible para disfrutar en familia. Si eres amante de la mitología griega, las aventuras épicas y todas estas historias de dioses y héroes, esta serie es para ti.
"Percy Jackson y los dioses del Olimpo", no solo supera en fidelidad, casting, narrativa y ejecución técnica a las películas antecesoras, también es una muestra de lo mucho que se puede lograr, para hacer que el Olimpo en la televisión luzca cada vez más prometedor.

It all started when I first saw Hercules, the iconic Disney film that accompanied us throughout our childhood.
Today I'm here to talk about a series I finished watching a few days ago; it may not be a big deal, but it transported me back to my childhood. It's the series Percy Jackson and the Olympians, a Disney original series that premiered in December 2023.
This series, based on Rick Riordan's successful series of novels, brings together some of the best adaptations of this young adult literature for television. I remember when I watched the previous films from 2010 and 2013, I was always left wondering how the story continued, so I thought it was great that they decided to make a series.

If we were to compare the series with the films, I would say that the series far surpasses the first two films, as this format allows for a more leisurely pace, with key elements such as the age of the protagonists allowing for a more organic development. This is in contrast to the films, which compressed the plot into two rushed feature films.
One of the highlights of this series, apart from the visuals and special effects, on which they did not skimp, was undoubtedly the casting, with young actor Walker Scobell standing out in the role of Percy. This boy radiates charisma and vulnerability to the story, without falling into the stereotypes of the overacted teenage hero.
He is followed by actors Leah Jeffries as Annabeth Chase and Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood, who complete, so to speak, this dynamic trio that evokes the power of friendship. The dialogue flows naturally and explores themes such as diversity, loyalty and self-discovery.
Visually, there is no denying that the Disney+ production shines, highlighting the magic of the mythical in fantastic landscapes where it is clear that quality was prioritised over quantity. This makes "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" a refreshing and appealing series for young and not-so-young audiences alike.
