This week was the least favorite week of mine, I didn't really like watching movies with the theme of horror thrillers, moreover, I had to watch them first and make me feel dizzy and faint seeing blood, violence, and horror.
Us (2109) is a film produced by Jordan Peele. After directing the horror film Get Out in 2017 and successfully breaking through the Oscar nomination, then he made a psychological horror-thriller movie both with the title Us.
Winston Duke and Lupita Nyong'o starring the film by being the main characters. Interestingly, this movie was originally rumored to be likely to touch racial issues as presented by the director in the previous movie, Get Out. But apparently, they do not have the same sequel to the story, although it can be said to be one universe.
Us tells of a couple named Gabe Wilson (Winston Duke) and Adelaide (Lupita Nyongo) who bring their children to a house on the coast. They leave for the purpose of having fun with their friends, the family of Tyler (Tim Heidecker) and his wife (Elisabeth Moss).
All the fun changes when night falls. Their calm turned into tension and chaos. Some unknown visitors surprisingly arrived without being invited to their residence. Strangely, this group of people had the exact same face as each member of the Wilson family.
Peele is still consistently mixing thriller and science fiction from a horror perspective. Proving that there is no need for ghosts. Yes, it could be, Peele's work will be the next horror movie trend. Given, the concept of terror such as the success of Get Out and A Quiet Place (2018) by John Krasinski.
It could be that, through Get Out and Us, we came to know what kind of horror movie would become Peele. Yes, Peele makes the conflict not explained further and the audience will be confused. Maybe Peele really wanted to invite the audience to interpret the ending according to each version. If indeed it will be answered in the sequel or prequel, pessimistic.
The character of Adelaide, played by Lupita Nyong'o, has a strong character, as a native human being and the doppelganger. Likewise with Gabe Wilson, played by Winston Duke, Jason by Evan Alex, and Zora by Shahadi Joseph. Amazingly, even though Jordan Peele has one hero, Adelaide, but it doesn't make other characters weak. Everything should be signed in every action.
The group of uninvited guests killed every person on the beach and in the city, causing chaos throughout the city. Nor did they stop pursuing the Wilson family. Then what is the fate of the Wilson family? Who exactly are these people?
The skill of making music mixers makes the scoring of this movie will make you feel the tense scene, Us is highly recommended if you want to watch a movie that stimulates adrenaline.
In a way, the movie Us became one of the horror movies with scoring that melt the atmosphere. Peele knows, viewers will always feel curious and have high expectations in each scene. Hence, pop songs are deliberately echoed to reduce tension, especially the terror of the voice of the antagonist character.
You really have to pay attention to the details of every scene and conflict, because this film is more complex than Get Out by Jordan Peele. Here is the Us trailer that you can watch on Youtube.
