If you haven't watched a road trip movie before this movie will make you unnecessarily excited for no solid reason. Yes I said that because, this movie is a road trip movie, with an impressive John wick-like teaser, but it wasn't so when I watched the movie. Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister from the Game of Thrones) starred as the lead character alongside Dean Scott Vazquez, Sam Worthington, and other actors with Gigi Gaston as the director/writer.
The movie was released on the 22nd of April, 2022 and it is one of the best movies Lena has acted in after GOT, apart from Gunpowder Milkshake. I love that movie a lot because it was pretty intense and thrilling.
Synopsis Of The Movie.
'9 Bullets' is a thriller that revolves around a former burlesque dancer (Gypsy), who had left that life behind and now aspires to be a writer in which she is already on the journey as she already started writing her biography about her former career.
The movie starts with Gypsy (Lena Headey) getting a distress call from her neighbor to look after the son. Getting home she discovers that her neighbor's son (Sam) had witnessed the death of his parents and the killers were the minions of her ex-boyfriend (Jack), a local drug lord. So Gypsy, Sam, and Moses (a Chihuahua dog, Sam's dog) left in her truck to deliver Sam to his uncle, but Sam wasn't optimistic about going to his uncle's.
On their way to Sam's uncle, they had to stop over four times in different motels as they were being followed by Jack's minions. During those stops, Gypsy took a drastic and sexual decision when she went to meet up with Jack to convince him that Sam was not in her custody. Later in the movie, Jack's minions found out that she lied to Jack and the chase began. Will Gypsy and Sam survive the chase? Watch the movie to find out.
My Opinion About The Movie and Rating.
This movie is fantastic and I wouldn't see it as a thriller but as an emotional movie. The teaser gave people the wrong impression about the movie and gave them more to expect. When the movie was out, the expectation was for a John Wick-like movie was dashed. So this pissed a lot of people off and the rating for the movie suffered the blow. It was badly rated and I would blame this on the marketers of the movie.
The writer/director of this movie failed the characters. What I mean is that the script was poorly written in an erratic which cause the characters to act erratic and unstable (mood change). I mean the characters behaved extremely inconsistent from one moment to the next. Like in the case of Sam, he would from a brilliant curious child to an uncontrollable sobbing within a space of seconds. If the movie was well directed or written well, I can bet it would be one of the best road trip thriller movies.
Talking about the characters, I see that Sam, did his possible best to bring out his character in an amazing way regardless of the poorly written script. Also, Gypsy did well, but at some point, she disconnected from her character where she was supposed to act like a strong independent woman. Then over to Jack, he wasn't well portrayed as the local Drug Lord he was meant to be. He was soft, gentle, slow and he wasn't brutal.
If I would recommend this movie, I would recommend it to Melodrama lovers, action lovers and young adults. Rating the movie, I will give it 3.5 stars, if the script was written well I would give the movie 4 stars.
