1899 ha sido de esas series que me han atrapado y la he terminado en pocos días. Apenas me enteré que esta serie fue realizada por los mismos creadores de Dark, sabía que debía verla y en verdad no me defraudo en lo absoluto. Si no has visto la serie no te preocupes que no haré ningún spoilers que pueda arruinarte la serie si no la has visto. Así que a continuación desarrollaré mi crítica y mi humilde comentario sobre la serie que ha estrenado Netflix hace poco.
Si algo me llamó la atención de esta producción ha sido la pluralidad en torno a las nacionalidades de los actores y actrices que han trabajado en la serie, y ha habido una mezcla de cultura interesante. Imagino que ha sido algo totalmente a propósito. Como lo dije, ha sido creada y producida por los mismos creadores de Dark, de modo que el misterio forma parte del ADN de la serie, o eso fue lo que pensé y efectivamente fue así. De hecho, mientras transcurrían los primeros 3 capítulos no entendía nada más allá de lo obvio, mientras transcurrían los capítulos iba tejiendo sospechas, entrelazando pistas de la serie, intentando dilucidar los pequeños detalles, algunas sospechas fueron corroboradas, otras totalmente un desvarío argumentativo de mi parte. Ahora bien, a continuación una suerte de sinopsis para que entiendan de qué va la serie sin mayor spoiler.
SINOPSIS:
En un barco de vapor a finales del siglo XIX, los tripulantes europeos van rumbo a Estados Unidos en busca de una nueva vida. Es ese el deseo de todos, comenzar de nuevo en el nuevo mundo. Pero durante el trayecto se percatan de otro barco de tripulantes que va a la deriva en altamar y el viaje comienza a dar un giro totalmente inesperado. Lo que descubrirán dentro del otro barco les convertirá su tranquilo viaje en un enigmático misterio que intentan resolver.
Son 8 capítulos llenos de intriga y misterio. Ha habido algo que me atrapó de la serie y ha sido su transformación en el recorrido de la trama, comenzó como una serie de época y se va tornando en una serie de misterio y enigma psicológico, aunque no me atrevería a afirmar que llega a ser terror porque no ocurre tal cosa, pero, se va tornando oscura y misteriosa, y el giro al fina hacia otro género cinematográfico es la guinda del pastel. No puedo decir el género, eso te toca a tí estimado lector descubrirlo.
Debo decir, que recomiendo muchisimo esta serie, y en verdad espero vengan más temporadas, porque han abierto una caja de pandora en el sentido de poder explorar muchas cosas y edificar una serie verdaderamente increíble. Como muchos saben, estudié filosofía y me es imposible no ver filosóficamente las cosas, y precisamente en la serie hacen comentarios y pronuncian referencias a lo que viene siendo el mito de la caverna de Platón. Si no sabes de qué vá el mito, básicamente es una alegoría que nos invita a pensar sobre la realidad y cómo la percibimos. De hecho, la serie me hizo recordar cuestiones filosóficas que debo releerlas porque quiero escribir sobre ellas más adelante.

Le doy una calificación de 8 sobre 10, ya que me ha parecido una entrega increíble, quizas estoy imprimiendo un poco de mis emociones y quizá merezca un punto menos de modo objetivo, pero, la serie me atrapó lo suficiente como para mirar 8 capítulos de aproximadamente 50 minutos cada uno, en cuestión de 3 días. Me acostaba tardísimo, pero valió la pena. Ahora bien, no todo es tan genial. Porque si lo miramos de manera objetiva, hay muchos huecos, hay cosas que no explican y simplemente se queda en el misterio. Así que no hay un argumento cerrado sino que explora muchas cosas que van ocurriendo y el espectador lo percibe e intenta encajar, y hay cosas que sencillamente no encajan. Solo espero qué tengan en mente presentar más temporadas y poder resolver los huecos.

As soon as I found out that this series was made by the same creators of Dark, I knew I had to watch it and it really didn't disappoint me at all. If you haven't seen the series don't worry I won't do any spoilers that might ruin the series for you if you haven't seen it. So below I will develop my review and my humble commentary on the series that Netflix recently released.
If anything struck me about this production, it was the plurality of nationalities of the actors and actresses who worked on the series, and there was an interesting cultural mix. I imagine it has been something totally on purpose. As I said, it has been created and produced by the same creators of Dark, so mystery is part of the DNA of the series, or so I thought and indeed it was. In fact, as the first 3 chapters went by I didn't understand anything beyond the obvious, as the chapters went by I was weaving suspicions, intertwining clues from the series, trying to elucidate the small details, some suspicions were corroborated, others totally an argumentative rant on my part. Now, here is a sort of synopsis so that you can understand what the series is about without major spoilers.
SINOPSIS:
On a steamship at the end of the 19th century, the European crew members set sail for the United States in search of a new life. It is everyone's wish, to make a new start in the new world. But during the voyage they notice another ship of crew members drifting at sea and the journey takes a totally unexpected turn. What they discover inside the other ship will turn their peaceful journey into an enigmatic mystery that they try to solve.
There are 8 chapters full of intrigue and mystery. There has been something that caught me of the series and has been its transformation in the course of the plot, it began as a period series and is becoming a series of mystery and psychological enigma, although I would not dare to say that it becomes terror because no such thing happens, but, it is becoming dark and mysterious, and the twist at the end to another film genre is the icing on the cake. I can't tell you the genre, it's up to you, dear reader, to find out.
I must say that I highly recommend this series, and I really hope that more seasons will come, because they have opened a pandora's box in the sense of being able to explore many things and build a truly incredible series. As many of you know, I studied philosophy and it is impossible for me not to see things philosophically, and precisely in the series they make comments and make references to Plato's myth of the cave. If you don't know what the myth is about, it is basically an allegory that invites us to think about reality and how we perceive it. In fact, the series reminded me of philosophical questions that I need to reread because I want to write about them later.

I give it a rating of 8 out of 10, as I found it to be an amazing installment, maybe I'm printing a bit of my emotions and maybe it deserves a point less objectively, but, the series grabbed me enough to watch 8 episodes of about 50 minutes each, in a matter of 3 days. I went to bed very late, but it was worth it. Now, it's not all that great. Because if we look at it objectively, there are a lot of holes, there are things they don't explain and it just remains a mystery. So there is not a closed plot but it explores many things that are happening and the viewer perceives it and tries to fit it, and there are things that just don't fit. I just hope they have in mind to present more seasons and to be able to solve the gaps.
