Hello my hivers, lovers of good movies and television! I hope you are all very well, today I come to talk about a movie that the truth is that I saw it a few months ago, and at the time I said, I'm going to write about it, but between one thing and another I let it pass until this weekend my son wanted to see it again and I repeated the same thing I did months ago hahaha, only this time I took action, Dungeons & Dragons - Honor Among Thieves, about 10 or 11 years ago I heard about this role playing game for the first time, I never played it, so I didn't know what it was about, until a couple of years ago I heard it again in Stranger Things and I said to myself, Aaaah, so this is that game! Anyway, I didn't pay attention to it, so watching the movie without knowing what the game it's based on is about, I don't know how detrimental it will be to my judgment of it, however, I'll let you know what I thought of it.
This is not the first movie based on a book or game that I have seen before knowing its origins, which makes me think that sometimes it is better to go in blind, and without expectations, to enjoy the essence of the film, and then there will be time to make comparisons, and usually when we have high expectations, they rarely manage to cover them. From what I have read, Dungeons and Dragons is a role-playing game, where basically anything can happen, there is magic, fantasy, villains, heroes and of course the dungeons and dragons can't be missing, and I had already been watching the movie for a while and I was wondering where the dragons were, but they were appearing.
One of the things that attracted me the most to the film was its protagonist of course hahaha, and that is that it has a cast of very good actors, Chris Pine plays Edgin Darvis, a bard who after being a harpist for the love of the art, becomes a thief when he sees that he had nothing to offer a better life for his family, and that after for a his wife's life was taken from him, he meets Holga Kilgore played by the great Michelle Rodríguez, who helps him in the raising their daughter Kira, although they continue to steal to survive, along with a young wizard Simon Aumar, played by Justice Smith and by a con man named Forge Fitzwilliam, played by the great Hugh Grant, they team up with Sofina (Daisy Head) a red mage who changes the lives of all of these, and a brief appearance by Bradley Cooper, and Doric (Sophia Lillis), a druid who joins to his crusade, like Holga's ex-husband, are some of the actors that we will be able to see in this film.
As its name suggests, in this film we see what is honor among thieves, and the bonds that can form, and is that in this group of thieves, a bit dysfunctional and quite broken, in which rarely manage to reach an agreement and the plans they make are usually ruined at the first attempt, always manage to get out of the most pressing situations, With the common goal of rescuing Kira, Edgin's daughter, from Forge Fitzwilliam and Sofina, who after playing a dirty trick on Edgin and Holga, which would leave them imprisoned for a few years, they decide to look for Simon, who is still a wizard with much to be desired, and he takes them to Doric, a shapeshifting tiefling who will be very useful in the many plans to rescue Kira. Sofina, who was thought to be used by Forge, turns out to be the villain of the plot, who wants to unleash the luring death, and thus turn the villagers into undead at her service and thus take over the kingdom and the world.
The reviews for this film have been very good, and the truth is that it is a very entertaining film, with a good plot, and as in role-playing games, each one plays his role and presents different and crazy options that are improvised as the adventure goes on. It highlights the value of friendship and family, because even among thieves there are such values. We can see Michelle Rodriguez being the tough one, a role we are used to, and she plays a good role as a barbarian, on the other hand, we see Chris Pine being more than a pretty face, the truth is that he plays a good role, being able to convey the feelings that come with it. On the other hand, seeing Hugh Grant in the role of the villain, a swindler who defrauds the trust that his friends put in him, the truth is that this role of a synic was very good for him.
On the other hand, I can't stop talking about the locations and the beautiful landscapes that the film shows us, and it was filmed in Iceland and Northern Ireland, countries that seem to have frozen in time these natural landscapes, perfect for this kind of movies.

¡Hola mis hivers amantes del buen cine y la televisión! Espero estén todos muy bien, hoy les vengo a hablar sobre una película que la verdad, es que la vi hace unos meses, y en su momento dije, voy a escribir sobre ella, pero entre una y otra cosa lo deje pasar hasta que este fin de semana mi hijo quiso verla de nuevo y me volví a repetir lo mismo de hace meses jajaja, solo que esta vez sí tome acción, Calabozos y Dragones - Honor entre Ladrones, hace unos 10 u 11 años escuche por primera vez sobre este juego de roles, que jamás jugué, así que no sabía de qué iba la cosa, hasta hace un par de años que lo escuche nuevamente en Stranger Things y me dije, ¡Aaaah, con que este es aquel juego! De igual manera, no le preste atención, así que ver la película sin saber de qué trata el juego en el que está basado, no sé qué tan perjudicial sea para mi juicio sobre la misma, sin embargo, les comentaré que tal me pareció.
Esta no es la primera película basada en algún libro o juego, que veo antes de conocer sus procedencias, lo que me hace pensar que, en ocasiones, es mejor ir a la ciega, y sin expectativas, para poder disfrutar de la esencia de la cinta, ya después habrá momento de hacer comparaciones, y es que por lo general cuando llevamos las expectativas altas, pocas veces logran cubrirlas. Por lo que he leído, Calabozos y Dragones es un juego de roles, en donde básicamente todo puede pasar, hay magia, fantasía, villanos, héroes y por supuesto los calabozos y los dragones no pueden faltar, y es que ya llevaba cierto rato viendo la película y me preguntaba en donde estaban los dragones, pero ya fueron apareciendo.
Una de las cosas que me atrajo más de la película fue su protagonista por supuesto jajaja, y es que cuenta con un reparto de actores de muy buena talla, Chris Pine interpreta a Edgin Darvis un bardo que luego de ser arpista por amor al arte, se convierte en ladrón al ver que no tenía nada para ofrecer una mejor vida a su familia, y que luego de que por un robo le fuera arrebatada la vida de su esposa, conoce a Holga Kilgore interpretada por la gran Michelle Rodríguez, quien lo ayuda en la crianza de su hija Kira, aunque continúan robando para sobrevivir, junto a un joven mago Simon Aumar, interpretado por Justice Smith y por un estafador de nombre Forge Fitzwilliam, interpretado por el gran Hugh Grant, estos se unen a Sofina (Daisy Head) una maga roja que cambia la vida de todos estos, y una aparición corta de Bradley Cooper, y Doric (Sophia Lillis), una druida que se une a su cruzada, como el exmarido de Holga, son algunos de los actores que podremos ver en esta cinta.
Como su nombre lo indica, en esta película vemos lo que es el honor entre ladrones, y los lazos que pueden llegar a formar, y es que en este grupo de ladrones, un poco disfuncional y bastante roto, en el que pocas veces logran llegar a un acuerdo y los planes que hacen por lo general se arruinan en el primer intento, siempre logran salir de las situaciones más apremiantes, con el fin común de rescatar a Kira, la hija de Edgin, de Forge Fitzwilliam y Sofina, quien luego de jugarles una mala pasada a Edgin y Holga, que los dejaría presos por unos cuantos años, deciden buscar a Simon, quien aún continúa siendo un mago con mucho que desear, y este los lleva a Doric una tiefling cambia formas que les va a ser de mucha utilidad en los tantos planes para rescatar a Kira. Sofina, quien se pensaba era utilizada por Forge, resulto ser la villana de la trama, quien quiere desatar la muerte atrayente, y de esta manera convertir a los pobladores en muertos vivientes a su servicio y de esta manera apoderarse del reino y del mundo.
Las críticas hacia esta película, han sido muy buenas, y la verdad es que es una película bastante entretenida, con una buena trama, y como en los juegos de roles, cada uno desempeña su papel y presentan opciones diferentes y disparatadas que se van improvisando a medida que va transcurriendo la aventura. En la misma resaltan el valor de la amistad y la familia, pues incluso entre ladrones existen tales valores. Podemos ver a Michelle Rodríguez siendo la ruda, papel al que estamos acostumbrados, y es que desempeña un buen papel como bárbara, por otro lado, vemos a Chris Pine siendo más que una cara bonita, la verdad es que desempeña un buen papel, siendo capaz de transmitir los sentimientos que conllevan el mismo. Por otro lado, ver a Hugh Grant en el papel de villano, un estafador que defrauda la confianza que sus amigos pusieron en él, la verdad es que ese papel de sínico le quedo muy bien.
Por otro lado, no puedo dejar de hablar de las locaciones y los hermosos paisajes que nos muestra la película, y es que fue grabada en Islandia y en Irlanda del Norte, países que parecen haber congelado en el tiempo estos parajes naturales, perfectos para este tipo de películas.
Donde hay magia y fantasía, tienen que existir efectos especiales, y por supuesto que aquí no se dejaron extrañar, los efectos especiales de esta película están muy acorde, desde escenas de acción y pelea, pasando por dragones soplando fuego, despertar muertos para una amena conversación, hasta magia nigromante para acabar con un pueblo entero, son algunas de las cosas que podemos encontrar en esta propuesta cinematográfica, que ha sido catalogada como una de las mejores del 2023 y por supuesto de las más taquilleras, pues como en el juego, aunque los buenos siempre ganan, no siempre tienen una sola manera de hacer las cosas. Debo decir que es una película muy entretenida, que fácilmente pueden verla grandes y pequeños, me encanto, la vería unas cuantas veces sin molestarme en absoluto, y le doy un 9/10
