La película comienza con dos hombres aproximándose en barco hacia un isla remota, esta isla cuenta con un faro y por lo que se ve, están haciendo un relevo de personal, ambos hombres a lo largo de la cinta los identificaremos como Ephraim Winslow interpretado por el pana de crepúsculo, Robert Pattinson, y un viejo marinero llamado Thomas Wake, interpretado por el inmortal William Dafoe, en los primeros minutos el dialogo no es algo que vaya a abundar, y nos centraremos mas en "apreciar" lo que significa estar trabajando en un faro.
The film begins with two men approaching by boat to a remote island, this island has a lighthouse and as far as we can see, are making a relief of staff, both men throughout the film we will identify them as Ephraim Winslow played by the corduroy of twilight, Robert Pattinson, and an old sailor named Thomas Wake, played by the immortal William Dafoe, in the first minutes the dialogue is not something that is going to abound, and we will focus more on "appreciating" what it means to be working in a lighthouse.

Al principio, notaremos que William, o mejor dicho, Thomas Wake, no navega entre la sanidad mental más estable, pues en breve minutos podremos encontrarlo desnudo, admirando la luz del faro y brindando por la misma, mientras observamos a un expectante Pattinson, o Ephraim Winslow, con un deseo creciente de ir a la altura del faro, hasta este punto, podemos hacernos la idea de que es lo que va a pasar en cualquier película genérica de terror, sin embargo, cuando vista película, me dejo con muchas preguntas y dudas de las que me pdoai imaginar, por ende, creo que es una experiencia muy agradable, el ir sin conocer tantos detalles de la obra, en un principio, aqui iré desglosando mi opinión con varios spoilers.
At the beginning, we will notice that William, or rather Thomas Wake, does not navigate between the most stable mental sanity, for within minutes we may find him naked, admiring the light of the lighthouse and toasting to it, as we watch an expectant Pattinson, or Ephraim Winslow, with a growing desire to go to the height of the lighthouse, up to this point, we can get the idea of what is going to happen in any generic horror film, however, when I saw the film, it left me with many questions and doubts than I could imagine, therefore, I think it is a very pleasant experience, to go without knowing so many details of the work, at first, here I will break down my opinion with several spoilers.

Algo que me gusto muchísimo de la película, es como solo con un concepto tan fácil de pensar como dos hombres en medio de la nada con un faro, puede convertirse en una experiencia que te puede dejar bastante incomodo e incluir tantos elementos que van desde lo mitológico hasta las consecuencias de ir perdiendo lentamente la cordura bien sea por un dios pagano olvidado del mar o por los síntomas de una mente que se va deslizando cada vez en ese umbral donde ya nada parece tener sentido ni lógica, yo no he visto muchas películas que exploren este concepto, el hecho de volverse loco y el no estar seguro de la sanidad mental de los personajes, pero de las pocas que he visto, siempre me ha parecido que son historias con un potencial tremendo para entretener y dejarte atando cabos sobre los hechos de la historia, algo así. pasa con esta cinta y ya se imaginaran que en mi humilde opinión, es una obra de muy alta calidad.
Something that I really liked about the film, is how just with a concept as easy to think about as two men in the middle of nowhere with a lighthouse, it can become an experience that can leave you quite uncomfortable and include so many elements ranging from the mythological to the consequences of slowly losing your sanity either by a forgotten pagan god of the sea or by the symptoms of a mind that is slipping each time on that threshold where nothing seems to make sense or logic, I haven't seen many films that explore this concept, the fact of going mad and not being sure of the mental sanity of the characters, but of the few I have seen, I have always found them to be stories with tremendous potential to entertain and leave you tying up loose ends about the events of the story, something like that. I've seen this film and you can imagine that in my humble opinion, it's a work of very high quality.

Y esa calidad magistral recae primero en el director de la película, pero después, indudablemente para mi, en la actuación de monstruo para la pantalla grande como lo es William Dafoe, dios.... este frame, esta escena, este dialogo, estas palabras, son dignas de quedarse entre las frases más memorables algunas vez dichas por alguien en el cine, esta maldicen que suelta, a los pies de un debilitado Pattinson, le dan al actor este aura de grandeza acompañado claro esta, por un angulo de cámara, que la da un toque muy siniestro a sus palabras, perdí la cuenta de cuantas veces la repetí, sin duda, de las escenas favoritas de la película, y un ejemplo claro, de que ambos, Pattinson y Dafoe, son dos grandes nombres de peso en este mundo del entretenimiento.
And that masterful quality lies first with the director of the film, but then, undoubtedly for me, with the performance of such a monster for the big screen as William Dafoe, god..... this frame, this scene, this dialogue, these words, are worthy to remain among the most memorable phrases ever said by someone in the cinema, this curse that he releases, at the feet of a weakened Pattinson, give the actor this aura of greatness accompanied of course, I lost count of how many times I repeated it, without a doubt, one of my favourite scenes of the film, and a clear example that both Pattinson and Dafoe are two of the biggest names in the world of entertainment.

Dadas las características de la obra, el final, los eventos los detalles y en especial el final, la primera impresion que tuve, es que la pelicula, no es más que la expresion de mente de degenerada de Ephraim, que se carcome de culpa por sus pecados e intenta olvidar sus acciones infructuosamente, llevandolo a la paulatina locura acompañado de un personaje que tiene un sentido trastornado de las vivencias que paso en ultramar, no obstante, si creo que haya elelmetnos paranormales y que no todo sea obra de la mente degenrada, lo que me lleva al propio faro, que, desde lo que pude entender, es un ente que gusta de atraer marineros o navegantes para así involucrarse de manera sexual con sus residentes, provocandoles alucinaciones e instandolos a que pierdan la cordura, como dije al principio, es muy complejo darle un final adecuado, pues la historia se presta para entenderse de diversas maneras y formas, cosa que en cierta forma me gusta, pero por el otro lado no me termina de encantar... funciona a pesar de ello, y creo que si bien, no es una película a la que todo el mundo le vaya a caer bien, si creo que tiene sus grandes méritos como terror psicologico y como dedicada al terror psicologico, aprobado por franzz.
Given the characteristics of the work, the ending, the events, the details and especially the ending, the first impression I had was that the film is nothing more than the expression of Ephraim's degenerate mind, which is eaten up with guilt for his sins and tries unsuccessfully to forget his actions, I do believe, however, that there are paranormal elements and that it is not all the work of the degenerate mind, which brings me to the lighthouse itself, which, from what I could understand, is an entity that likes to attract sailors or navigators to become sexually involved with its residents, causing them hallucinations and urging them to lose their sanity, as I said at the beginning, it is very complex to give it a proper ending, because the story lends itself to be understood in different ways and forms, which in some ways I like, but on the other hand I do not love it. ... it works in spite of that, and I think that even though it's not a film that everyone will like, I think it has its great merits as a psychological horror and as a film dedicated to psychological horror, approved by franzz.
