007 No Time To Die
It is at least ironic that the title of 007 - No Time to Die suggests a situation of urgency, because what we see in this film, planned to end the career of Daniel Craig in the role of James Bond, is a machine as well oiled as the Big Ben clock, which fulfills its functions without haste, without scares, without delays.
The parts that ensure the good performance of the gear are known, from the screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade (who entered in the middle of the Pierce Brosnan era and wrote the last 7 films of the series) to the second unit director Alexander Witt (who only did not exercise this function in the
Craig era in Quantum of Solace, the most irregular film of the vintage).
It is names like these that support the uniformity of the franchise, its excellence in the voting of locations and chase scenes, and it can be said that James Bond has only reached 25 films because of the constant care of these standards, an asset that is worth a lot, especially once the public shows to look for more on the big screen which is familiar and guaranteed.
The end of a period that is announced for the new one.
Even with that villain rather any note, 007: No Time to Die is a surprising closure to this James Bond story. During said 15 years, Craig became the longest-serving actor to embody the spy and it is excellent to see how the film brings enormous closure to his arc and, as a bonus, manages to bring the previous stories together really well, giving more depth and purpose to the events and characters previously presented. The new functionality is so good that it manages to improve on certain of the flaws of its predecessors.
Finally, it is not only the end of Craig's tenure in the role, but the beginning of those new times to which his own script alludes.
In reality there is no more room on the planet for the James Bond we have seen in the last 60 years and both the character and the franchise as a whole need to be updated to face this new reality.
And the new film makes it clear that in other words viable, it is enough to want to be open to the new times and leave the old Bond where he wants to stay: in the past.
10 facts about 007 No Time To Die
"No Time to Die" means the farewell of actor Daniel Craig to the role of "Bond, James Bond", which he played from 2006 in "007 - Casino Royale".
- Why the number 007?
As has been said in previous films of the franchise, Bond is not the exclusive representative of MI-6. His designation belongs to a select group, the 00 agents, where each zero suggests the number of homicides necessary to become a spy. All agents with the designation "00" have the famous License to Kill, provided by the Queen of England.
- Change of director
The film was originally slated to be directed by Danny Boyle (Who Wants to be a Millionaire?), but the director was eventually fired due to the lengthy early stages of the film. According to producer Barbara Brocolli, due to "creative disagreements".
To replace Boyle, director Cary Fukunaga (from the True Detective series) was hired.
- Farewell to Daniel Craig
The 25th film of 007 involves Craig's farewell to the role of the secret manager. The 53-year-old actor has played Bond since 2006, in the 4 films of the franchise:
007 - Casino Royale;
007 - Quantum of Solace;
007 - Operation Skyfall;
007 vs. SPECTRE.
- Tapes in succession
Daniel Craig's phase is characterized by being the first time in the franchise's films that there is a complete story, forming a succession, a story cohesive. The previous films, although with the same actor, were consistently stand-alone adventures.
In this reboot, begun in 2006, Bond underwent an upgrade to become the 007 manager we know and love. The new films also adopted a more serious tone, leaving aside the successful antics of the spy.
- A sequence of postponements
"No Time to Die" went through a sequence of postponements. During its production, Craig injured his ankle, which interrupted the shooting for 2 days. In Casino Royale, the actor was punched and lost 2 teeth. The life of an actor is not simple.
- Familiar faces
The new 007 film brings back some of the faces we already know from previous films, such as Moneypenny (Naomi Harris), M (Ralph Fiennes) and Q (Ben Wishaw) from "007 - Operation Skyfall", and the representative of the Central Intelligence Agency Felix Leiter (Jeffery Wright), Bond's ally who appears in each of the previous films of the Craig stage.
From the previous film, Bond's romantic interest Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux) and SPECTRE villain Ernst Blofeld (Christoph Waltz) return to take Bond's peace again.
- Women in the spotlight
An issue that was continually the basis of disagreement is the procedure in the 007 tapes is given to the ladies, treated mostly as objects or romantic interests of Bond. They even have a name: Bond Girls.
But "No Time to Die" will give them more prominence, in front of and behind the camera. For starters, the film has been written by actress and screenwriter Phoebe Waller-Brigde (of Fleabag), the second time a James Bond film has been written by a woman.
Among the cast, we have Ana de Armas (Blade Runner 2049) and Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel) as the first black lady to be a 007 representative on the big screen. That's a lot of applause.
Although she is not part of the cast at the moment, it is worth mentioning actress Judi Dench, who played 007's boss, M, from 007 vs. GoldenEye (1995) to Skyfall (2012).
- The best 007 film in history
The feature film has barely been released and has already broken a record: "No Time to Die" has the longest running time among all James Bond films ever released. The film is 163 minutes long, surpassing its predecessor, 007 vs. SPECTRE, with 160 minutes.
- Soundtrack of respect
Speaking of breaking records, the newest artist to perform a 007 score is pop vocalist Billie Eilish, who becomes the youngest to film a James Bond affair. The Daniel Craig era has featured artists such as Chris Cornell, Alicia Keys, Adele and Sam Smith.
The primary soundtrack features seasoned musician Hans Zimmer, responsible for famous scores for films such as Gladiator and The Lion Monarch.
- Who will replace Daniel Craig in the role of James Bond?
Perhaps the biggest question that remains after the denouement of "No Time to Die". With the object of the Craig era, who is going to be the new 007.
Although names like Tom Hardy were already raised by the public, producer Barbara Brocolli mentioned that the finding of a new actor (or maybe actress) to play James Bond will start this year 2022.
