As an avid fan of Girl From Nowhere, I always anticipate what would happen in the reset version. Girl From Nowhere: The Reset is like a reboot of the franchise where they reimagined Nanno in another universe. I just finished it and I have mixed reaction from it. Becky portrays Nanno as the main lead, and you can't deny that she performed well. She's beautiful and more like evil-type of face. Each episode has a different storyline, so I'm going to rate it based on my personal taste. It might contain spoilers, so I warn you.
Episode 1 - "Sky" - 7/10
For me, the topic of this episode is cliché but relevant. It talks about bullying, where Jom's circle was bullying Sky. The main lesson in this story is clear, as it represents how we pass our trauma to someone. This leads to a cycle of events where we just hurt each other. Yet, Jom's karma is bad and very unrealistic. It seems like revenge, in my opinion, and I like how Sky reacted to his nemesis' karma. They might have just wanted to add light romance to this series. I think they had a point in adding it since it would be super boring if they didn’t add a twist.
Episode 2 - "Panty" - 9/10
Out of all the episodes, this is my favorite. It talks about invasion of privacy and the issue of victim blaming. I can't tell the whole story, but this is well-written. I love the karma compared to the first episode, which looks like revenge. Until now, I'm still shocked at how it ended with Peck's arousal. The karma is just a chef’s kiss. In my opinion, the ending seemed forced, and adding Girl From Nowhere to Nanno's panty ruined the experience. Regardless, I still like how the two boys, along with the principal, got their karma so badly. If I were in their position, it would definitely haunt me forever.
Episode 3 - "Hater" - 6/10
This is the worst-written episode in the series. I think Nanno's judgment of her victim's hatred toward his co-content creator seems rushed. Instead of triggering his karma that quickly, she should have elevated it further. She should have also looked at Jaimie's side (the one who got hate) further since he also lied. Anyway, I like how they represent the RPW war happening on social media. It is the only thing that makes it watchable.
Episode 4 - "OnlyNanno" - 8/10
I like it, but it's super quick. Like in the previous episode, it doesn’t get elaborated further. First, I like how Nanno questioned Blossom's idea about "My Body, My Choice." I just don't get satisfied on how cliffhanging the ending is. Maybe the writer just wants to let the viewers decide what her choice would be if she continues or not. No karma happened to Blossom, so I find it quite weak. Yet, I love the twists in the story, and it is the most memorable for me out of the episodes.
Episode 5 - "Corrupt Lies" - 8/10
In our country where crocodiles are leading the government, I like how its story relatable. The role of Nanno here is more like two-faced. I also love how the group exposed their corruption and remained standing despite challenges. I just don't like its predictable ending, but I don’t mind it. Moreover, I'm also surprised that they inserted BL elements in this story since it's so popular in Thailand. I don't mind it as well, though.
Episode 6 - "Election" - 9/10
I just watched it yesterday, and I like it as well. But for me, Episode 2 is still a bit better than this. This is the last episode, and I love how Nanno questioned the principal. You know, we can't deny that we always make the same mistakes. It's also inevitable that we often judge those who are at fault, but we also do it. In short, we are all hypocrites. Until now, I don't know what happened to Sky and his role in following her. Maybe it will be answered in the second season (if there will be.)
Thank you for reading. In conclusion, I just prefer the old season better than this version. Personally, I like Chicha more as the lead since she looks more innocent and creepy than Becky. I'm not saying that Becky is a bad actress since she nailed the role here. Unfortunately, the directors also didn’t show much of the iconic laugh, and the writing is weak. While watching it and waiting for another episode, I rewatched the two original seasons. It's better watching it a second time after seeing it five years ago, haha. Looking forward to Japanese adaptation, though.
