Movie Review : A Mother’s Tale.
SUMMARY:
A wealthy businessman who lose his spinal cord to a ghastly motor accident finds love on his way to recovery but all is not as it seems as he meets an unparalleled fate.
Emeka Okoye definitely pulled the rabbit out from the hat on this one and I must commend his fluid acting skill in this amazing piece of work.
Unadulterated storyline, the plot and setting is amazing and all the characters brought their A-Game. Super tasty cinematography.
The story begins in a police interrogation room. A young woman sits in the heat of sporadic questioning but I think we should pause it here for a moment.
After the accident that near ruptured his spinal cord, Richard must spend the rest of his days on a wheel chair pending his recovery.
His compassionate mother will always scold his not-so-compassionate brother Raymond and Crystal his sister for their lack of concern but their hatred for Richard burned like wild fire.
After what seems to be months of intense pain and trauma, Richard’s mother decides to welcome the services of a caregiver seeing that Richard’s siblings would rather see him wasted than extend to him their warm embrace.
The caregiver, a beautifully built woman in her 30s began to nurse Richard back to his rightful place of sanity but not without trials.
During the course of these trials, Control and management of Richard’s companies and holdings were transferred to his wasteful, inexperienced and arrogant younger brother Raymond who inadvertently leaves the company drowning in debt.
Raymond’s character in this tale highlights on the riddance of conditional love and how he had felt neglected by his mother whose love for his older brother was truly profound.
Raymond, starved of his mother’s confidence and affection quickly took to the path of the reckless son, holding on to his sister Crystal who shares the same beliefs.
The caregiver’s touch finally brought back the smile on Richard’s face and he was beginning to experience the essence of life again. He envisions his life in the caregiver’s arms.
Such a delicate plot. The same Richard who only a few months ago, totally consumed by rage would’ve traded all of his possessions for a swift death. Who would’ve thought?
Now back to reality, Raymond sees the love birds and he was not going to let them be. He tries to tear them apart on the premise that he has feelings for her, the caregiver. She rejects him.
After his many tricks and fails, Raymond and Crystal manipulated their mother into sending Richard’s caregiver away and replacing her with someone crafty enough to do their bidding.
The new caregiver stood before Richard one morning as he lay down on his bed totally consumed by grief, the love that once blossomed was already fading away like fallen leaves in autumn.
His defiance was swiftly met by the caregiver’s cold stare as it dawns on him that she was hired to end his life on the instructions of his brother and sister.
What happened next is what I would call an unprecedented plot because I never saw it coming. Totally blown away.
The movie circles back to where it originally started. In a police interrogation room with the caregiver breaking from the pressure of intelligence police work.
You should download this one and see for yourself. An outstanding performance, not the usual Nollywood predictables.
