Hidden Strike
Genre : Action, Adventure, Comedy, Thriller.
Summary:
It was soon discovered that a China-run oil refinery had been attacked by an organized group of armed rebel forces in Mosul, Iraq.
A Chinese private security contractor Luo Feng (Jackie Chan) was contracted to go through a rugged patch of desert called the “ Highway of death” to extract and evacuate all 498 employees at the refinery including a professor, her son and his estranged daughter, Mei. But little did the team leader foresaw that he was going to join forces with one of the rebels.
As expected, Jackie as usual puts up an outstanding performance and stunt work. Cena plays the big intimidating muscle as usual, just smashing people away. The cinematography was fantastic, lights, location, plots and all the CGI elements super detailed and precise. Awesome.
The legendary team leader Jackie Chan was tasked with this one crucial mission in a faraway desert land. He gears up and set his entire team in motion on a bus convoy and ready to intercept the attackers, however, he could not have anticipated the ambush that left members of his team displaced.
In his quest to rescue his team, he spotted one of the attackers speeding away in a desert cruiser. He tails him, secretly to a nearby village and sees him playing baseball with an Arab kid. This creates some sort of a dilemma.
Earlier that day, John Cena, a former American Marine who had stayed back in a remote village in Iraq after the war, had been lured by his younger brother into taking the deal to attack the oil refinery, if only to save his village and secure water.
All John ever wanted was to help these poor villagers fix the water system essential to their survival. Such a noble cause.
On securing the package, he discovers he had been lied to. The original deal was to steal a fortune from the oil industry through an underground channel.
He (John) no longer wants any part of it but it was already too late. He leaves. The criminal boss shoots and kills his brother.
Now back to the face off between Jackie Chan and John Cena. After what seems to be a rough start and countless exchange of kicks and punches, they were interrupted by another double-crossed gun dealer who shoots his way in.
Jackie and Cena teams up to dispossess the gun dealer and his team of mercenaries. They go back to the village to make better preparations along side Jackie’s daughter in hope to rescue the Chinese professor who had been kidnapped.
One of the scenes that got me cracking up was the seatbelt scene where Jackie Chan had to show John how to use the seatbelt. The look on his face. 😂
So they snuck their way into the enemy zone and began to match fist and gun power with the attackers. It was just so awesome and super funny how Jackie and Cena blended so seamlessly.
I enjoyed all the arguments they keep having during these fights, at some point I had to rewind and rewatch because I could not get enough. 🤦♂️😅
There was this fist bump (chop knuckle) scene I rewind and rewatched like twice. 🫠😅🥹
So Jackie was pretty much engaged with the tattooed villain. He tells John to go ahead, that he’s got it all under control. That was where John attempted to fist bump but they missed the count. 🤦♂️
John goes ahead, steps out, spots the criminal boss in a desert cruiser attempting to escape. He jumps down and tried to chase them on foot but he gassed out and stopped half way. 🤦♂️😅
Just in time, he sees Jackie’s daughter swerving into the scene. He was shocked to see her driving Suzzie. Suzzie is not a person, that is John’s pampered truck.
He tells her to drive but on the first turn, she scratched it. 😅 You need to see the look on his face. Drive…. He says but somewhere along the gun heated chase, they crashed and Suzzie was totally smashed.
Lucky for them, Jackie had also entered the chase. He sees them by the road side, looks at the wrecked truck and thought it was funny:
Jackie to John - “ I see you have a….. John interrupts him before he could finish the sentence and said “ I swear if I hear a flat tire joke, I’m gonna loose it! 😅😅
They entered Jackie’s truck and proceeded to engage and decimate the criminal boss but not without a brawl.
I think John likes Jackie’s daughter. I could not help but notice the chemistry. Jackie noticed it too and kicks against it in such a weird funny manner. 😅
Jackie’s team helps John’s village to secure the long anticipated water. The villages were happy.
Minute later, Jackie’s superior called in with another contract. Jackie smiled at John and asks if would join them. I am sure you can already guess the answer to that. 🫠
Hidden strike, for me, is one of the best sequence to have happened to Hollywood and it was existentially worth every bit of the hype.
