Hello everyone,
I hope you are doing ok, And I am doing fine too. Given that my brother has been tested positive for COVID19, my mom and sister-in-law are showing the symptoms. (Don’t worry I already spoke with my family back in islands and they are doing OK). Also to add to my misery I am suffering severe back pain. Turns out that it takes note and scolding from the doctor for me to take rest. Anyway since then I am on the bed and advised to take rest. What better way to relax than watching a movie. So I am back with my Friday Night Movie Review.
The lockdown is a crazy time. You get to spend a lot of time thinking about stuff that may not matter much. And also a fascinating time as you find out things that you didn’t know before. About yourself. Like today I found out that I am capable of hating an animated movie. And I know Hate is a strong word, but that's what this movie made me feel. This movie made me feel dizzy (Or that could be the medication) I don’t know but it simply made me feel “HATE”.
Anyway, you might have heard of this movie which was once used to be my fav pass-time. This is The Angry Birds Movie.
Spoilers – No grown man/ woman with self-respect would watch it. I did as I have little to none left.
Anyway, the movie starts with introducing us to the main character RED who is a clown working two shifts and is running late to a party. Please note the word running. As the birds in the movie are flightless. And they live on an Island. Red suffers from anger issues. (Get It He is the Angry Bird.. inuke bangs his head on the desk). Moving on, he couldn’t shake off the fact that one of his clients is being an a$$#ole for no reason and let loose of his anger, earning him Anger Management Class. (Now if you ask me, its all RED’s fault. I mean that what most of the clients are nowadays. They are off for no reason. And you need to keep things in control at your end. Why let things get heated when you can simply say ok, whatever, and move on. But that not the case is it. Sometimes you want to grab them by the collar and ask them why the changes now when the end product is already tested and ready to be delivered. Or bang their head against the hardwood table and hold them by their neck and ask why the change in the core structure which makes no sense and can easily be avoided. And what difference does it make if the button is round instead of you know a box? You know what RED is right, sometimes the client deserves to get a cake smashed on their face. Phewww.)
Moving on to the next scene, Red is attending the anger management class with a chuck (The yellow fast bird from the game) and bomb (The exploding one from the game). The movie goes to their backstories half-assed. This trio became friends, well kinda friends. Because Red is kinda a loner. Which the movie tries to explain but failed. I mean the backstory was just all over the place random flashback from different times. I mean the movie thought itself from the Christopher Nolans point of storytelling and failed miserably. I am trying not to go in the ranting mode again. But talking about this movie is getting me so... Arrrrghhh.
To move the plot forward the Pigs enter via ship. They offer friendship to the flightless birds of the islands. All birds except the Red agrees and they throw in the big party to entertain the pigs. Pigs in turn put on a show and got all the birds occupied at the party. Meanwhile, they had been stealing the eggs, Loading in the ship and setting dynamites on the Islands. Red came to know about their plan and tried to warn but failed because of his reputation as an angry bird. And finally decided to seek help from The Mighty Eagle, A legendary Bird from the island who happened to have the power of flight. The trio embarks on the journey to find The Mighty Eagle. This is the point where the movie harrases us with what it thinks is a comedy but is actually is torture. I am not going to discuss it as it was so painful to watch that it nullified my medication.
Anyway they find The Mighty Eagle on to be disappointed. As he turned out tobe an out of shape, self-obsessed egomaniac who refused their plea of help. The trio returned to the village but were late. The village realizing their mistakes asked help from Red. Who advised to construct a boat and followed the Pigs. They fit in the Slingshot on the boat and started launching themselves on the Pig city, destroying the building and stuff... You know what all of you have played the game at some point in your life and knows how it is. Rest is just some non-sense action sequence.
The birds save the eggs, Red saved the egg which everyone thought was lost and all is well.
And that is The Angry Birds Movie.
To be honest I don’t know why do I even hate it. Do I hate it for the fact that it is trying to cash-in on a game that is a decade old. Or for the fact that it was trying hard to make a connection with the game that I was expecting the scores to pop up during the bird invasion on the pigs. Or those facts that there are annoying characters like the mimes, the hug guy. I am not able to figure out what is it about this movie that drives me mad. The animation is OK but looks odd. I am honestly not sure what is wrong with this film but it gets me angrier than usual. It is not a good movie I can be sure of that. I have seen bad movies but there were things that would get me interested in something even the worst of the worst would get me to laugh at it. But this is just awful. One maybe it's just my backache that's driving me nuts. Whatever the reason be after watching The Angry Birds Movie, I became inuke The Angry Man.
That is all for now folks. I hope to see you soon.
Although I like the idea that they tried Movie on something that has no story at all the movie tried to be creative and failed. Since I am on bed rest anyway maybe its time that I test something different.
