Hello my dear moviegoing friends! I hope you are very well, surely many of us who are here today were very happy in our childhood when they took us to a little paradise where we could find all our favorite movies called Blockbuster Video, so today I am here to remember and pay tribute to this site which made us happy many times.
Hola mis queridos amigos cinéfilos! Espero estén muy bien, seguramente muchos de nosotros que estamos aquí hoy fuimos muy felices en nuestra niñez cuando nos llevaban a un pequeño paraíso en el que podíamos encontrar todas nuestras películas favoritas llamado Blockbuster Video, así que hoy estoy por aquí para recordar y rendir homenaje a este sitio el cual nos hizo felices muchas veces.
Blockbuster was a chain of video stores that was present in our lives for many years, operating from 1985 until 2014 when they finally closed all the operating locations in the world except for one, which is located in Oregon and would be quite interesting to visit. For those of us who grew up loving the seventh art and lived in the VHS era, we did not forget how exciting it was to go to a Blockbuster to choose our favorite movies, I remember that here in my city there were quite a few and there was one nearby, so I always looked forward to the weekends for my dad to take me to choose movies, when my dad signed up I was about 6 years old and I loved that he rented Disney movies to me mainly, the first Disney movies I saw were rented there.
Blockbuster fue una cadena de videoclubs que estuvo presente en nuestras vidas durante muchos años, operando desde 1985 hasta el 2014 cuando finalmente cerraron todos los locales operativos en el mundo a excepción de uno, el cual se ubica en Oregon y sería bastante interesante de visitar. Para los que crecimos amando el séptimo arte y vivimos la época del VHS no olvidamos lo emocionante que era acudir a un Blockbuster para escoger nuestras películas favoritas, recuerdo que aquí en mi ciudad habían bastantes y había uno cerca, así que siempre esperaba ansiosa los fines de semana para que mi papá me llevara a escoger películas, cuando mi papá se inscribió yo tenía como 6 años y me encantaba que el me alquilara las películas de Disney principalmente, las primeras de Disney que vi fueron alquiladas allí.
When I started buying movies to collect, I would go to Blockbuster more frequently to rent the ones that caught my attention and then if I liked one, I would buy it in a nearby store and I did that for a while, and I remember that I had a wide collection in a short time which I still have. I still have very good memories of the times when I spent hours going through the counters full of movies and I took quite a few, among the ones I rented the most were "All Dogs Go To Heaven", "The Land Before Time", "Babe" and " Casper" as well as various Disney classics. It's a shame that thanks to the advent of digital platforms and piracy, video clubs specially Blockbuster have disappeared because I think nothing can compare to the excitement of going to a place full of movies to choose and rent or buy, especially when you're a kid so I think that today's generations are missing a lot.
Cuando empecé a comprar películas para coleccionar iba con más frecuencia a Blockbuster a alquilar las que me llamaran la atención y luego si alguna me gustaba, la compraba en una tienda cercana y así fui haciendo durante algún tiempo, y recuerdo que llegué a tener una amplia colección en poco tiempo la cual todavía conservo. Todavía conservo muy buenos recuerdos de las veces en las que pasaba horas revisando los mostradores full de películas y llevaba bastantes, entre las que más alquilaba se encontraban "All Dogs Go To Heaven", "The Land Before Time", "Babe" y "Casper" además de diversos clásicos de Disney. Es una lástima que gracias a la llegada de las plataformas digitales y la piratería los videoclubs en especial Blockbuster hayan desaparecido porque pienso que nada se puede comparar a la emoción de ir a un lugar lleno de películas a escoger y alquilar o comprar, y mas cuando eres niño así que pienso que las generaciones de ahora se pierden de mucho.
Finally, I would say that remembering this place fills me with nostalgia since it was a very special place for me. I grew up with a huge taste for movies. When the Blockbuster that was close to my house closed, I was able to buy several movies (whose boxes have the logo inside) and I keep them as a memory of something that made me happy. I really loved having remembered and honored him. And you tell me, do you also remember it?
Para finalizar diría que recordar este lugar me llena de nostalgia ya que fue un lugar muy especial para mí que crecí con un gusto enorme hacia las películas, cuando cerró el Blockbuster que quedaba cerca de mi casa pude conseguir comprar varias películas (cuyas cajas tienen el logo adentro) y las guardo como un recuerdo de algo que me hizo feliz. De verdad me encantó haberlo recordado y homenajeado. Y ustedes diganme ¿ustedes también lo recuerdan?
