About The Show
Eureka is a five season television show that originally began airing in 2006. The show was produced and played on the Syfy network. A sixth "final" season was actually ordered but ended up getting cancelled by NBC Universal. The show is currently streaming on Peacock.
Who's In It
The show has a relatively large cast of regulars including Colin Ferguson as Sheriff Jack Carter, Salli Richardson as Dr. Allison Blake, Erica Cerra as Deputy Jo Lupo, Jordan Danger as Zoe Carter, and Joe Morton as Dr. Henry Deacon - just to name a few. Many folks join as recurring regulars although aren't in every episode and then nearly every episode features at least one guest star.
What's the Premise
The town of Eureka was founded in the 1950s as a home for all of the most elite thinkers and minds to work together at Global Dynamics to solve problems. A lot of "mysterious happenings" occur because of all this amazing thinking. The underlying theme of the show is about the battle between science for pure discovery and science for profit.
Why I Love It
First, I love a good crime procedural which, in many ways, is the underlying principle behind Eureka.
Second, I adore the silly antics and the interesting questions posed - even if it's nowhere close to being scientifically accurate in places. This is one of those good things about television - it can make you consider really big questions and Eureka does that.
Finally, I love that we really get to know the characters in a way that only television's expanded time can allow. This is something I've grown to appreciate more as the Marvel Cinematic Universe has expanded to Disney Plus. We get to know more about the characters and get to know their stories better. I think the character work in Eureka is fantastic.
What Else Might You Like?
If you like Eureka then you may also like Warehouse 13. I'll post a review of it at some point in the future but I'm currently on hold with it while I finish Eureka because I'm up to the crossover episode on Warehouse 13 between the two shows which happens near the end of Eureka's run on television.
