Understanding everything that happens, and why the X-Men comics within the film are important, makes it so that as viewers we can understand what drives Laura to act in such a way. Logan cares about what happens because of Charles, so having these two adults take care of Laura as best they can, is what ultimately makes Wolverine, become the hero they needed to escape.
It is an excellent closure for the X-Men saga and the characters we were growing up with to give way to a new generation, so yes. I recommend this movie to say goodbye to Wolverine and the team we knew, close that page and be able to see what's next.
