Hello, living beings! Today I was going to review Fragments of a Woman, but I fell asleep halfway through the movie, when I finish watching it I'll tell you about it, instead, I'm going to tell you about Russian Doll, a 2019 Netflix series that I loved when I saw it, and that I was excited to see that there is going to be a second season, but it's unknown when it will start shooting because of the pandemic.
This eight-episode cynical comedy introduces us to Nadia Vulvokov on her birthday where her friends threw her a party to celebrate it, and even though she wants the party (and the night) to end as soon as possible, the only thing that comes to an end is her life, but surprisingly she doesn't stay dead, she revives again and again, making Nadia desperate who wants to understand why all this is happening, will she ever find out?

Hoy les iba a hacer una reseña sobre Fragmentos de una mujer, pero me dormí a la mitad de la película, cuando la termine de ver les hablo de ella, en cambio, les voy a hablar de Muñeca Rusa, una serie del 2019 de Netflix que amé cuando la vi, y que me emocioné al ver que va a haber una segunda temporada, pero no se sabe cuándo comenzará a rodarse a causa de la pandemia.
Esta comedia cínica de ocho capítulos nos presenta a Nadia Vulvokov el día de su cumpleaños donde sus amigas le hicieron una fiesta para celebrarlo, y a pesar de que ella quiere que la fiesta (y la noche) termine lo más pronto posible, lo único que llega a su fin es la vida de ella, pero sorpresivamente no se queda muerta, revive una y otra vez, desesperando a Nadia que quiere entender por qué todo eso está sucediendo, ¿llegará a descubrirlo?
When I first read the description I thought it was going to be just another run-of-the-mill series where the character is very basic and tries to do things she never did before, or some other ridiculousness, like the tons of movies that are already all over the world and keep coming out, but no, it's very good and it's nice to be shown the opposite of what you might think.
Nadia is a sarcastic, cynical woman with a very realistic and negative outlook on life, and her humor is too dark for many people to bear. I absolutely loved it, the character in general is perfect no matter how much of a mess she is, and Natasha Lyonne's performance is beyond spectacular, I couldn't stop watching it and finished it the same night I started watching it.
La primera vez que leí la descripción pensé que iba a ser una serie más del montón donde el personaje es muy básico y trata de hacer cosas que nunca hizo antes, o cualquier otra ridiculez, como los montones de películas que ya hay por todo el mundo y que siguen saliendo, pero no, es muy buena y da mucho gusto que te demuestren lo contrario a lo que uno llega a pensar.
Nadia es una mujer sarcástica, cínica, con un punto de vista muy realista y negativo de la vida, y su humor es demasiado negro como para que muchas personas lo soporten. La amé por completo, el personaje en general es perfecto sin importar que sea un desastre, y la actuación de Natasha Lyonne es más que espectacular, no pude dejar de verla y la terminé la misma noche que la comencé a ver.
Nadia at some point is going to meet Alan, a person who in one way or another is going to help her in the whole process of what is happening in her life. Their relationship is going to be chaotic, they are completely different and can hardly ever stand each other, but they try to work things out for the good of both of them.
Alan's character didn't fit as perfectly as Nadia's did in this story, but being played by Charlie Barnett made him better than anyone else could have. The chemistry in the interactions was too much to pass up, so the two had to work together for the sake of it.
Nadia en algún momento se va a encontrar con Alan, una persona que de una manera u otra la va a ayudar en todo el proceso de lo que está pasando en la vida de ella. La relación de ellos va a ser caótica, son completamente diferentes y casi nunca se pueden soportar, pero tratan de solucionar las cosas por el bien de los dos.
El personaje de Alan no encajó tan perfecto como lo hizo el de Nadia en esta historia, pero al ser interpretado por Charlie Barnett se hizo mejor de lo que cualquier otro pudo hacerlo. La química en las interacciones era mucha como para dejarla pasar, así que ambos tenían que trabajar juntos porque sí.
the performances, but even more in the scenography, every day that Nadia comes back to life things begin to change around her, and it's too late when we realize it, the representation of the mental deterioration she is suffering reflected in everything that happens around her takes your breath away and leaves you with a knot in your throat.
In this series there is no hidden symbology beyond what the name itself says, but the pleasure of watching everything that happens behind Nadia is great, all the different stories that happen while Nadia is in search of the reason for the cycle she is living are as wonderful as they are dark.
Visualmente la serie es un orgasmo puro, no imagino el infierno que tuvo que ser filmar una y otra vez las mismas escenas con diferentes cambios en las actuaciones, pero más aún en la escenografía, cada día que Nadia vuelve a la vida las cosas comienzan a cambiar a su alrededor, y es muy tarde cuando nosotros nos damos cuenta, la representación del deterioro mental que ella está sufriendo reflejada en todo lo que sucede a su alrededor llega a quitar el aliento y te deja con un nudo en la garganta.
En esta serie no hay una simbología oculta más allá que la que el mismo nombre dice, pero el placer de estar observando todo lo que sucede detrás de Nadia es muchísimo, todas las diferentes historias que suceden a la vez que Nadia está en la búsqueda de la razón del ciclo que está viviendo son tan maravillosas como oscuras.
Chloë Sevigny ended up blowing my mind with a performance that was too painful to watch, I cried too much (yeah, weird me). The more time Nadia spends dying and reviving, the more we get to learn about her past. Lenora Vulvokov, Nadia's mother, played by Chloë Sevigny was something I didn't expect and left me in awe, making me definitely love the series.
Nadia tries to find an answer in her mother, so we go through with her the traumatic childhood she had living with a bipolar mother who was not under medication or proper supervision. These themes always touch my feelings and that's why I ended up crying, it's very hard to watch, but you have to do it at some point to understand that everyone has a past and despite that they are still here, no matter how difficult it was.
Chloë Sevigny terminó de volarme la cabeza con una actuación demasiado dolorosa para ver, lloré demasiado (sí, qué raro yo). Mientras más tiempo pasa Nadia muriendo y reviviendo, más llegamos a enterarnos de su pasado. Lenora Vulvokov, la madre de Nadia, interpretada por Chloë Sevigny fue algo que no esperaba y que me dejó maravillado, haciendo que amara la serie definitivamente.
Nadia trata de buscar una respuesta en su madre, por eso recorremos con ella la infancia traumática que tuvo al vivir con una madre bipolar que no estaba bajo la medicación ni la supervisión adecuada. Estos temas siempre me tocan los sentimientos y por eso terminé llorando, es muy difícil de ver, pero hay que hacerlo en algún momento para entender que todos tienen un pasado y que a pesar de eso siguen aquí, sin importar lo difícil que haya sido.
The process of instrospection that Nadia has to go through is not easy, it never is, but given the situation in which she finds herself it is worse, it is not enough that she is in an endless cycle of reliving the day of her death, nor knowing why it is happening, but everything around her is falling apart and it may be too late if she does not manage to fix it.
The black humor of the series is exquisite in an unconventional sense, you can be in the middle of a scene laughing, showing a completely beautiful landscape and out of nowhere there is a plot twist and you find yourself witnessing something that leaves you in shock and you do not know how to react, whether to scream, whether to cry, whether to stop watching the series, it is horrible and at the same time wonderful, not knowing what to expect keeps you on the edge of suspense the whole series.
El proceso de instrospección por el que tiene que pasar Nadia no es nada fácil, nunca lo es, pero dada la situación en la que ella se encuentra es peor, no basta solo con que está en un ciclo sin fin de revivir el día de su muerte, ni saber por qué está sucediendo eso, si no que todo a su alrededor se está desmoronando y puede llegar a ser muy tarde si no logra solucionarlo.
El humor negro de la serie es exquisito en un sentido no convencional, pueden estar en medio de una escena riéndose, mostrando un paisaje completamente hermoso y de la nada hay un giro en la trama y te encuentras presenciando algo que te deja en shock y no sabes cómo reaccionar, si gritar, si llorar, si dejar de ver la serie, es horrible y a la vez maravilloso, no saber qué esperar te mantiene al borde del suspenso toda la serie.
The soundtrack of the series is as exquisite as everything else, all the songs perfectly represent the irony of everything that is happening, Nadia's feelings, the collapse of the world for her, the tiredness that is lived in an endless routine without hope of escape. I loved all the songs, it's living with the perfect soundtrack without knowing it.
Here's the trailer! You definitely have to watch this series if you love surprises, cynicism and unexpected plot twists. Also, I assure you that you will love the ending, it left me with a knot in my throat and crying, I couldn't believe that after everything that happened it ends in such a painful but masterful way. Watch it and then give me your opinions! After watching the trailer again it made me want to see it again and I'm going to do it without any doubt.
El soundtrack de la serie es tan exquisito como todo lo demás, todas las canciones representan a la perfección la ironía de todo lo que está sucediendo, los sentimientos de Nadia, el derrumbe del mundo para ella, el cansancio que se vive en una rutina sin fin sin tener la esperanza de escapar. Amé todas las canciones, es vivir con el soundtrack perfecto sin saberlo.
¡Aquí les dejo el trailer! Definitivamente tienen que ver esta serie si aman las sorpresas, el cinismo y los giros inesperados en la trama. Además, les aseguro que el final les va a encantar, me dejó con un nudo en la garganta y llorando, no podía creer que después de todo lo sucedido termina de una forma tan dolorosa pero magistral. ¡Véanla y después me dan sus opiniones! Después de volver a ver el trailer me dieron ganas de volver a verla y lo voy a hacer sin duda alguna.
