En estos tiempos estamos viviendo una época en donde los remakes están agarrando un auge importante, no solo a nivel de series sino en el cine en general, películas de hace 20 años las están resucitando y reformulando para traerlas de nuevo a la vida. Pero, por que pasa eso?, será que la cultura está muriendo y yo no hay capacidad de crear algo desde cero?, lo novedoso quedó en el olvido? - la respuesta a eso no está muy clara pero lo cierto es que debemos estar preparados porque cosas como esta no serán las últimas que vayamos a ver. La película de Mr. and Mrs. Smith protagonizada por Brad Pitt y Angelina Jolie salió en el 2005 así que como ven 19 años después tenemos esta nueva versión.
In these times we are living an era where remakes are gaining an important boom, not only at the level of series but in cinema in general, movies from 20 years ago are being resurrected and reformulated to bring them back to life. But, why is this happening, is it that the culture is dying and there is no capacity to create something from scratch, the novelty is forgotten? - The answer to that is not very clear but what is certain is that we must be prepared because things like this will not be the last we are going to see. The movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie came out in 2005 so as you can see 19 years later we have this new version.
Esta historia comienza con los Smith, John (Donald Glover) y Jane (Maya Erskine) quienes son dos ex agentes que fueron reclutados para esta nueva tarea. Ellos tuvieron que dar por perdidas sus identidades y antiguas vidas para poder desempeñarse mejor en este nuevo rol. Cual rol? - pues el de ser un espia y al mismo tiempo ser una pareja felizmente casada; la cosa es que muchas veces juntar el trabajo con la eventual vida amorosa que pueda surgir puede terminar siendo una pésima idea. Nada se sabe de la agencia que los unió, lo único conocido es que son contactados para llevar a cabo ciertas misiones que dependiendo de su forma de hacer las cosas se pueden complicar o no.
This story begins with the Smiths, John (Donald Glover) and Jane (Maya Erskine) who are two former agents who were recruited for this new assignment. They had to give up their identities and old lives in order to perform better in this new role. What role? - Well, that of being a spy and at the same time being a happily married couple; the thing is that many times combining work with the eventual love life that may arise can end up being a lousy idea. Nothing is known about the agency that brought them together, the only thing known is that they are contacted to carry out certain missions that depending on their way of doing things can be complicated or not.

A medida que va avanzando la trama poco a poco se van dando cuenta que ciertos sentimientos comienzan a aflorar por más que ellos se opongan, empiezan a discutir por pequeñeces, a quererse más de la cuenta y esto al final lo único que puede traer son problemas. Entonces lo que veremos a lo largo de los 8 capítulos es como dos espías tratan de no "matarse" entre ellos mientras están en medio de una misión. La realidad es que esta serie puede estar catalogada como acción y si, la tiene, pero también hay una comedia negra y muy ácida la cual es muy cool, siempre y cuando te guste ese tipo de género.
As the plot progresses, little by little they realize that certain feelings begin to surface even though they are against it, they begin to argue over little things, to love each other more than they should, and this can only lead to problems in the end. So what we will see throughout the 8 chapters is how two spies try not to "kill" each other while they are in the middle of a mission. The reality is that this series can be categorized as action and yes, it has it, but there is also a black and very acid comedy which is very cool, as long as you like that kind of genre.
En lo personal es una serie que me sorprendió mucho, es muy inteligente la forma en cómo lograron que los problemas de pareja se fusionaran tan bien con toda la trama y es que hay algunas misiones que potencian y dan más profundidad a lo que ellos están viviendo. Y todo esto de la mano de una comedia que como ya dije es muy ácida a veces y que tiene como pilar a Donald Glover quien para mi es un genio en lo que hace y a Maya con quien quedé muy contento, su actuación es muy top y acorde al contexto de la serie. Es ácida no porque sea ofensiva sino porque es y vuelvo a repetir, inteligente, saca partido de situaciones para crear diálogos e interacciones que de verdad son muy cómicas.
Personally it is a series that surprised me a lot, it is very clever how they managed to merge the couple's problems so well with the whole plot and there are some missions that enhance and give more depth to what they are living. And all this hand in hand with a comedy that as I said is very acidic at times and that has as a pillar Donald Glover who for me is a genius in what he does and Maya with whom I was very happy, his performance is very top and according to the context of the series. It is acidic not because it is offensive but because it is, and I repeat, intelligent, it takes advantage of situations to create dialogues and interactions that are really very funny.

Como dije también hay acción. Tiene sus buenas escenas de persecución, disparos, peleas cuerpo a cuerpo y las típicas del espionaje que están envueltas con un aura de intriga y expectación. Pero no todo es así, hay episodios en donde el aspecto personal y de pareja toman el control y pueden llegar a ser muy interesantes, hay uno en especial que involucra a una terapista de parejas que es muy bueno, si ya la vieron sabrán de lo que hablo. Es una serie muy sentimental cuando quiere, a veces hasta cínica, hasta que llega la comedia para terminar de empastar todo para que al final el resultado sea muy bueno. Y por último y no menos importante hay algo que me llamó mucho la atención, los cameos.
As I said there is also action. It has its good chase scenes, shootings, hand to hand fights and the typical espionage scenes that are wrapped with an aura of intrigue and expectation. But not everything is like that, there are episodes where the personal and couple aspect take control and can be very interesting, there is one in particular that involves a couple therapist that is very good, if you have already seen it you will know what I mean. It is a very sentimental series when it wants to be, sometimes even cynical, until the comedy comes in to finish the whole thing so that in the end the result is very good. And last but not least there is something that caught my attention, the cameos.
Úrsula Corberó, Wagner Moura, Sarah Paulson, Alexander Skarsgard, son algunos de los grandes actores y actrices que aparecen acá. Todos en un rol muy específico pero que de verdad llenan mucho la serie, la complementan de una forma muy cool. Si ya hablamos de los personajes hay que decir que tanto Donald como Maya son espectaculares, la química que tienen esos dos es abismal, ya conocía el potencial de él pero el de ella me dejó gratamente sorprendido. Buenos en la comedia, los dos son genuinamente cómicos hasta cuando no quieren serlo; en la acción porque les tocó unas escenas en donde tuvieron que hacer gala de ciertas habilidades y que al final a la hora de interpretar todo lo cumplieron con creces.
Úrsula Corberó, Wagner Moura, Sarah Paulson, Alexander Skarsgard, are some of the great actors and actresses that appear here. All of them in a very specific role but they really fill the series, they complement it in a very cool way. If we talk about the characters we have to say that both Donald and Maya are spectacular, the chemistry between them is abysmal, I already knew his potential but hers left me pleasantly surprised. Good in comedy, both are genuinely funny even when they don't want to be; in action because they had some scenes where they had to show off certain skills and at the end when it came to interpreting everything they fulfilled it with flying colors.

Es una serie que no aburre en ningún momento, muy bien hecha, una buena historia y con un final totalmente abierto que no deja claro si va a continuar o no. Le doy un 9/10, tiene todo para ser algo tipo The Bear o The White Lotus pero veremos a donde la quieren llevar. Está disponible en Prime Video, son 8 capítulos de 45-50 minutos cada uno. Les dejo el tráiler por acá y así le echan un ojo.
It is a series that does not bore at any time, very well done, a good story and with a totally open ending that does not make it clear if it will continue or not. I give it a 9/10, it has everything to be something like The Bear or The White Lotus but we'll see where they want to take it.
