Si hay un director que sabe hacer las cosas ese es James Gunn, la cabeza pensante de esta nueva versión de DC Comics y director de Peacemaker, Superman y Suicide Squad. Pero, por qué nombré esta última película? - pues porque es canon en este universo y sobretodo en esta serie. Así que para todos aquellos que quieran estar realmente al día con el camino que está comenzando a tomar DC van a tener que sentarse a ver estas tres cosas. Pero hoy nos vamos a enfocar en la segunda temporada de Peacemaker que recién culminó la semana pasada, una temporada que dejó un sabor agridulce teniendo en cuenta par de cosas: por lo extraordinaria que es la primera entrega y por la trama que se venía desarrollando en este segunda para que tuviéramos un final con muchas preguntas.
If there's one director who knows how to do things, it's James Gunn, the mastermind behind this new version of DC Comics and director of Peacemaker, Superman, and Suicide Squad. But why did I mention this latest film? Because it's canon in this universe, and especially in this series. So, for anyone who wants to really stay up-to-date with the direction DC is taking, you're going to have to sit down and watch these three things. But today we're going to focus on the second season of Peacemaker, which just ended last week. A season that left a bittersweet taste in the mouth, considering two things: how extraordinary the first installment is, and the plot that had been developing in this second one, leading us to have an ending with so many questions.
Peacemaker hace su aparición en Suicide Squad y a partir de allí Gunn decide darle un rol protagónico a lo que será la historia principal en este universo. Para los que no lo sepan es un héroe bastante particular cuyo poder principal se concentra en el casco que lleva puesto. En esta segunda entrega la trama tiene que ver un poco con viajes a través de multiversos o dimensiones gracias a un artefacto capaz de abrir portales en cualquier puerta. Esto lo ligan un poco con la trama principal de Superman y la famosa grieta que crea Lex Luthor. La cosa es que a lo largo de los 8 capítulos se va creando un trasfondo que dará pie al cierre de la temporada, el "nacimiento" de un nuevo villano y el destino de Peacemaker.
Peacemaker makes his appearance in Suicide Squad, and from there, Gunn decides to give him a leading role in what will be the main story in this universe. For those who don't know, he's a rather unusual hero whose main power is concentrated in the helmet he wears. In this second installment, the plot has something to do with travel through multiverses or dimensions thanks to a device capable of opening portals in any door. This ties it in somewhat with the main plot of Superman and the famous rift created by Lex Luthor. The point is that throughout the eight chapters, a background is created that will lead to the season finale, the "birth" of a new villain, and the fate of Peacemaker.

Personalmente me gustó esta temporada, el tema es que el último capítulo no cubrió las expectativas de las personas. Fue un poco lento, si, pero es uno que hay que analizarlo para un mediano y largo plazo, James Gunn no da puntada sin dedal, como se dice coloquialmente. Lo bueno de Peacemaker es que John Cena está hecho para este personaje, es un tipo cómico innato además de que si, es muy buen actor a pesar de que entró al mundo de Hollywood tarde y la actuacion no es o era su fuerte. Y cuando digo que está hecho para el personaje es porque el peso de la serie es mayormente comedia pero una bastante directa y sin pelos en la lengua. De hecho la serie es super directa con algunos temas, acá la bendita cultura woke no existe, cosa que se agradece mucho.
Personally, I liked this season. The problem is that the last episode didn't live up to people's expectations. It was a bit slow, yes, but it's one that needs to be analyzed for the medium and long term. James Gunn doesn't do anything without a thimble, as they say. The good thing about Peacemaker is that John Cena is made for this role; he's a natural comedian, and yes, he's a very good actor, despite the fact that he entered the world of Hollywood late and acting isn't, or wasn't, his strong suit. And when I say he's made for the role, it's because the series' main focus is mostly comedy, but it's a fairly direct and unvarnished one. In fact, the series is super straightforward with some topics; the blessed woke culture doesn't exist here, which is greatly appreciated.
Una comedia negra y unos guiños a cosas que pasan en la actualidad en los Estados Unidos a nivel de sociedad son algunos de las cosas a las que se atrevió a mostrar Gunn en esta segunda temporada. La acción es muy buena, las escenas son muy gráficas en lo que a violencia se refiere, es muy visual todo, me recuerda un poco a lo que se ve en The Boys. Lo que hace que esta temporada sea un poco de menor en intensidad que la primera es que siento que es un poco más emocional y personal, conocemos una faceta desconocida de Chris Smith, sus sentimientos, sus traumas y lo que siente por sus otros compañeros, en este caso hacia Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland).
A dark comedy and a few nods to current events in the United States at a social level are some of the things Gunn dared to show in this second season. The action is very good, the scenes are very graphic in terms of violence, everything is very visual, it reminds me a bit of what you see in The Boys. What makes this season a little less intense than the first is that I feel it's a bit more emotional and personal. We get to know an unknown side of Chris Smith, his feelings, his traumas, and how he feels about his other classmates, in this case toward Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland).

James Gunn ya aclaró que no hay planes para una tercera temporada por lo que tendremos que esperar bastante para saber la continuación de esta historia en alguna de las películas que vengan. El final es sumamente abierto y da pie para un sinfín de posibilidades y especulaciones en relación a lo que podría pasar. Hablando un poco de sus personajes hay que decir que son el alma de la serie. Cena tiene un carisma especial, es imposible que caiga mal; Jennifer Holland, esposa de Gunn, es otra que sorprende mucho, tiene una habilidad top para pelear además de que sus dotes de buena actriz se le nota en algunos pasajes de la temporada. En realidad todos aportan algo, Adrian, Adebayo, Economos, Judomaster, etc.
James Gunn has already clarified that there are no plans for a third season, so we'll have to wait a while to find out how this story will continue in any of the upcoming films. The ending is extremely open-ended, leaving room for endless possibilities and speculation about what might happen next. Speaking a bit about the characters, it's worth noting that they're the heart and soul of the series. Cena has a special charisma; it's impossible to dislike him; Jennifer Holland, Gunn's wife, is another who surprises us greatly; she has top-notch fighting skills, and her acting skills are evident in certain passages throughout the season. In reality, everyone contributes something: Adrian, Adebayo, Economos, Judomaster, etc.
En líneas generales esta segunda temporada es muy buena, con la intensidad de la primera pero sin dudas abre el camino a lo que vendrá en DC y eso tiene que ser tomado en cuenta. Una serie divertida, te ríes mucho, tiene muy buenos efectos visuales, muy buen CGI y sobretodo es irreverente y atrevida, ya eso del qué dirán está perdiéndose y estamos volviendo un poco a lo "políticamente incorrecto". Le doy un 8/10, no se puede sacrificar un producto solo porque los últimos 20 minutos del capítulo final no te hayan gustado y más si pensamos a mediano y largo plazo, como ya lo dije. Les dejo el tráiler por acá abajo. Super recomendada, el género de los superhéroes poco a poco está resucitando.
Overall, this second season is very good, with the intensity of the first, but it certainly paves the way for what's to come from DC, and that has to be taken into account. It's a fun series, you laugh a lot, it has great visual effects, very good CGI, and above all, it's irreverent and daring. The "what people will say" thing is fading, and we're going back a bit to the "politically incorrect." I give it an 8/10. You can't sacrifice a product just because you didn't like the last 20 minutes of the final episode, especially if we think in the medium and long term, as I already said.
