In my top of the best films of last year without discussion is Anora. It was one of my early favorites before awards season started. Sean Baker is a master when it comes to portraying marginalized characters. His filmography is not as extensive as others, but all of his films are wonderful. His name is not well known by the masses, but within the independent circuit he has already carved out a great career.
Starlet, Tangerine, The Florida Project and Red Rocket are his previous works that everyone should seek out and see. Stories with very human and underdog characters. This is also the nature of Anora. Characters that are easy to empathize with, complex and human enough to feel identified with in some way, even if you have no relation to what they do in those stories.
I think Anora is giving Baker more international exposure and I hope that more audiences can enjoy his productions. His characters are neither good nor bad, the filmmaker also writes the scripts of his films and endows the characters with humanity. In Anora that produces many beautiful scenes. Moreover, in this film he also mixes different film genres, which makes it very entertaining to watch.
What there is no doubt about is how much fun Anora is. The film lasts more than two hours but it doesn't get tiring, too many things happen and both in structure and cinematic rhythm it is perfect. Even in the moments when everything seems to turn into a thriller and there is violence, they are still hilarious moments. I had a great time with this movie.
En mi top de las mejores películas del año pasado sin discusión está Anora. Fue una de mis primeras favoritas antes de que empezara la temporada de premios. Sean Baker es un maestro a la hora de retratar personajes marginados. Su filmografía no es tan extensa como la de otros, pero todas sus películas son maravillosas. Su nombre no es muy conocido por las masas, pero dentro del circuito independiente ya se ha labrado una gran carrera.

Sus personajes no son ni buenos ni malos, el cineasta también escribe los guiones de sus películas y dota a los personajes de humanidad. En Anora eso produce muchas escenas hermosas. Además, en esta película también mezcla diferentes géneros cinematográficos, lo que hace que sea muy entretenida de ver.
De lo que no cabe duda es de lo divertida que es Anora. La película dura más de dos horas pero no cansa, pasan demasiadas cosas y tanto en estructura como en ritmo cinematográfico es perfecta. Incluso en los momentos en los que todo parece convertirse en un thriller y hay violencia, no dejan de ser momentos divertidísimos. Me lo pasé muy bien con esta película.

She's not a saint, she's not a villain, she's just a woman looking to achieve the American dream and have a lot of money. Isn't that what 99% of people want?
Vanya is a spoiled child. He was born a millionaire, his parents are important people in Russia and he spends some time in America. Enjoying his parents' money. He is an immature young man in the extreme, who only wants to fuck, drink and play video games. He is a boy in a man's body. Getting entangled and marrying a prostitute will be the trigger of the conflict.
I saw no love between them. She just sees an opportunity to have everything she wants. Money, clothes, jewelry. What many women look for, a handsome and millionaire man who gives her everything she wants (nowadays many get a millionaire, but old and fat) For him it is just a good time, a game since he is a perfect idiot. In none of the sex scenes between them I could feel love. He even fucks badly, he is an asshole with money. Anora just pretends pleasure, it's perceived in all those scenes. So genuine love between these characters does not exist, true love will arise spontaneously but with someone else.

No hay felices para siempre. La película también ha sido calificada por otros como la cara b de Pretty Woman. Para mí es la Pretty Woman de la generación Z y con un desenlace más acorde con la realidad.
Puede que Anora, la protagonista, sienta algo de afecto por Vanya. Pero al final sólo se trata de dinero. Es una prostituta joven, guapa y encantadora. Pero desde el primer momento en que la vemos en pantalla, su motivación es el dinero. Es prostituta, una que sabe manipular muy bien a los hombres para conseguir lo que quiere. No es una santa, no es una villana, sólo es una mujer que busca alcanzar el sueño americano y tener mucho dinero. ¿No es eso lo que quiere el 99% de la gente?
Vanya es una niña mimada. Nació millonario, sus padres son gente importante en Rusia y él pasa una temporada en Estados Unidos. Disfrutando del dinero de sus padres. Es un joven inmaduro en extremo, que sólo quiere follar, beber y jugar a videojuegos. Es un niño en el cuerpo de un hombre. Enredarse y casarse con una prostituta será el detonante del conflicto.
No vi amor entre ellos. Ella sólo ve una oportunidad de tener todo lo que quiere. Dinero, ropa, joyas. Lo que muchas mujeres buscan, un hombre guapo y millonario que le de todo lo que ella quiere. ( hoy dia muchas consiguen un millonario, pero viejo y gordo) Para él es sólo un buen momento, un juego ya que es un perfecto idiota. En ninguna de las escenas de sexo entre ellos pude sentir amor. Incluso folla mal, es un pendejo con plata. Anora solo finge placer, se percibe en todas esas escenas. Asi que el amor genuino entre estos personajes no existe, el verdadero amor surgirá de forma espontanea pero con otro.
Mickey Madison looks lovely. A star is born with this film. He builds his character in a fantastic way, giving him toughness and candor at the same time. It is impossible not to be fascinated by her character and her performance. Between her and Demi Moore should be the Oscar winner. When you see her, you will realize the interpretative difference between her and the one who is pushing for a nomination in the best actress category (I'm sure you know who I mean). By the way, I saw a news where they criticized the actress because she asked not to need an intimacy director in the sex scenes. Something I applaud. That figure of intimacy directors seems idiotic to me.
The rest of the cast is fabulous. Mark Eydelshteyn plays Vanya and does it so well it makes you slap that asshole. Yuriy Borisov, who is also nominated for an Oscar, will mesmerize everyone with his character of Igor. Karren Karagulian and Vache Tovmasyan are the other two who star in hilarious scenes.

Mickey Madison está encantadora. Ha nacido una estrella con esta película. Construye su personaje de forma fantástica, dándole dureza y candidez al mismo tiempo. Es imposible no sentirse fascinado por su personaje y su interpretación. Entre ella y Demi Moore debería estar la ganadora del Oscar. Cuando la veas , te percataras de la diferencia interpretativa entre ella y quien esta uruspando una nominación en esa categoria de mejor actriz (seguro que sabes a quien me refiero). Por cierto, vi una noticia donde criticaban a la actriz porque pidió no necesitar un director de intimidad en las escenas de sexo. Algo que aplaudo. Esa figura de los directores de intimidad me parece una idiotez.
El resto del reparto es fabuloso. Mark Eydelshteyn interpreta a Vanya y lo hace tan bien que te hace abofetear a ese imbécil. Yuriy Borisov, que también está nominado al Oscar, fascinará a todos con su personaje de Igor. Karren Karagulian y Vache Tovmasyan son los otros dos que protagonizan escenas divertidísimas.
