I continue to enjoy Apple TV+ series and miniseries that offer quality over quantity. A solid cast captained by the two lead actors Taron Egerton and Paul Walter Hauser to tell us a true story. Be warned there are minor spoilers in this review opinion.

When a mortal who thinks he is a demon knows the true nature of evil.
If you find yourself in a desperate situation, where it seems that much of your life is spent locked away purging the sins you committed by breaking certain laws, what would you be willing to do? Would you sleep with the devil? Your freedom is at stake. One mistake and you could be locked up longer, but if you succeed you will get what you want most. Would you accept the risk?
There are cases where the use of any resource is justified to obtain a greater good. In this case using the qualities of a charming man, with an easy way to make friends and build relationships, is useful to prevent an apparent demon from going out and committing his barbarities again. does the end justify the means? I think this type of situation certainly does.
A difficult decision. Not just because the success of the mission is not assured. It's that you don't know what obstacles will come your way or how being locked up with the devil, becoming his friend and having him trust you, will affect you psychologically.
You will never be the same, all your misdeeds and the bad things you did to society out of ambition does not compare to the level of aberration that the devil will tell in his stories with details that would make anyone's blood run cold.

Hay casos en los que el uso de cualquier recurso está justificado para obtener un bien mayor. En este caso utilizar las cualidades de un hombre encantador, con facilidad para hacer amigos y entablar relaciones, es útil para evitar que un aparente demonio salga a cometer sus barbaridades de nuevo. ¿el fin justifica los medios? Creo que este tipo de situación ciertamente lo hace.
Una decisión difícil. No sólo porque el éxito de la misión no está asegurado. Es que no sabes qué obstáculos te van a salir al paso ni cómo te va a afectar psicológicamente estar encerrado con el diablo, convertirte en su amigo y que confíe en ti.

Algunas personas que se creen malvadas, lo son hasta que se encuentran con alguien más malvado que ellos, esto es lo que ocurre en la vida real y la historia que se nos cuenta en esta miniserie de seis episodios está basada en hechos reales, es una adaptación del libro escrito por uno de los protagonistas: James Keene.
James Keene had a typical American family, son of a policeman, he grew up as a normal child. Fate and genes gave him the privilege of being good at sports, having the opportunity to achieve a career in soccer and being physically attractive which made him lucky with women, as well as having charisma, which made his life easier when it came to making friends and doing business.
Why does a person choose the wrong path? This is a difficult question to answer. Each individual has his or her reasons. Keene decided to play demon to engage in drug trafficking, something that generated a lot of money for him to live a life of luxury and enjoy all the pleasures of life. I will not exonerate Keene from the blame for many lives that he surely destroyed indirectly through the drug he put into circulation on the streets.
What the pretty boy didn't know was that the collapse of his empire would lead him to meet the true face of evil. He would have to befriend the devil himself.
Larry Hall was the opposite of Keene. He grew up in a cemetery where from an early age he dug graves. He had no facility for expressing himself, seemed unintelligent, physically unattractive, fat, it was difficult for any girl to feel attraction for Larry. He devoted part of his life to traveling around several states in the country where there were reenactments of civil war battles, it was a subject that fascinated him, so he wore long sideburns, as they were used at that time, which made him look stranger.
Hall embraced evil at its finest. He seems to be a true demon who would unfortunately snatch approximately over twenty innocent souls and cause great pain in numerous families for the rest of their lives.
Two completely different lives, both imprisoned for different crimes, one of them will be forced to befriend the gold, get to know him, befriend him, gain his trust and get as much information out of him as possible. Everything that will prevent the appeal from letting him go free, avoiding new innocent victims in the future.
What will be the cost of this? If both were psychopathic minds, they would not be affected, but one of them, despite having committed a crime, retains a human side that makes him sensitive, forcing him to repress his emotions. Hiding anger with a smile of pleasure, repressing the urge to kill the monster while giving him a brotherly embrace. To break down in tears, in the darkness of the cell, a silent scream to bear all the pain, the rage and the impotence of not being able to act more quickly against the demon that is locked in the cell next door.
I'm going to look for the book on which the miniseries is based, since, being written by Keene himself, it surely delves a little deeper into his mind, what he was thinking during all the time he was locked up with the devil. Although there is a lot of information on the internet about the actual case, I didn't want to read any of it, I'm interested in finding the book in my native language to read at my leisure.
I liked that the miniseries was short, only six episodes, but I also felt that in the last one everything happened a bit rushed, because the previous episodes took their time and then it was like a very abrupt change, with everything happening in the last episode. This would be the only thing I would criticize negatively, but everything else is perfect.
I also liked the ambiguity and doubt in many parts of the story - is Hall really guilty or is he just a jerk who makes up stories? Even the FBI agent gets to a point where he starts to doubt if they are going after the real killer. Making the viewer also doubt and discover the truth as the episodes go by.
James Keene tuvo una típica familia americana, hijo de un policía, creció como un niño normal. El destino y los genes le dieron el privilegio de ser bueno en los deportes, tener la oportunidad de lograr una carrera en el fútbol y ser físicamente atractivo lo que le hizo tener suerte con las mujeres, además de tener carisma, lo que le facilitó la vida a la hora de hacer amigos y negocios.
¿Por qué una persona elige el camino equivocado? Es una pregunta difícil de responder. Cada individuo tiene sus razones. Keene decidió jugar a ser un demonio para dedicarse al tráfico de drogas, algo que le generaba mucho dinero para vivir una vida de lujo y disfrutar de todos los placeres de la vida. No voy a eximir a Keene de la culpa de muchas vidas que seguramente destruyó indirectamente a través de la droga que puso en circulación en las calles.
Lo que el niño bonito no sabía era que el derrumbe de su imperio le llevaría a conocer la verdadera cara del mal. Tendría que hacerse amigo del mismísimo diablo.
Larry Hall era todo lo contrario a Keene. Creció en un cementerio donde desde muy pequeño se dedicó a cavar tumbas. No tenía facilidad para expresarse, parecía poco inteligente, físicamente poco atractivo, gordo, era difícil que alguna chica sintiera atracción por Larry. Dedicó parte de su vida a viajar por varios estados del país donde había recreaciones de las batallas de la guerra civil, era un tema que le fascinaba, por lo que llevaba largas patillas, como se usaban en aquella época, lo que le hacía parecer más extraño.
Hall abrazó el mal en su máxima expresión. Parece ser un verdadero demonio que, por desgracia, arrebataría aproximadamente más de veinte almas inocentes y causaría un gran dolor en numerosas familias para el resto de sus vidas.
Dos vidas completamente diferentes, ambas encarceladas por diferentes crímenes, una de ellos se verá obligado a entablar amistad con el oro, conocerlo, hacerse amigo , ganarse su confianza y sacarle toda la información posible. Todo aquello que impida que la apelación lo deje libre, evitando nuevas víctimas inocentes en el futuro.
¿Cuál será el coste de esto? Si ambos fueran mentes psicópatas, no se verían afectados, pero uno de ellos, a pesar de haber cometido un crimen, conserva un lado humano que lo hace sensible, obligándose a reprimir sus emociones. Ocultar la ira con una sonrisa de placer, reprimir el impulso de matar al monstruo mientras le da un abrazo fraternal. Romperse en llanto, en la oscuridad de la celda, un grito silencioso para soportar todo el dolor, la rabia y la impotencia de no poder actuar más rápidamente contra el demonio que está encerrado en la celda de al lado.
Voy a buscar el libro en el que se basa la miniserie, ya que, al estar escrito por el propio Keene, seguro que profundiza un poco más en su mente, en lo que pensaba durante todo el tiempo que estuvo encerrado con el diablo. Aunque hay mucha información en internet sobre el caso real, no quise leer nada de eso, me interesa encontrar el libro en mi idioma nativo para leerlo con tranquilidad.
Me gustó que la miniserie fuera corta, sólo seis episodios, pero también sentí que en el último todo sucedió un poco apresurado, porque los episodios anteriores se tomaron su tiempo y luego fue como un cambio muy brusco, con todo lo que sucede en el último episodio. Esto sería lo único que criticaría negativamente, pero todo lo demás está perfecto.
También me gustó la ambigüedad y la duda en muchas partes de la historia. ¿Es Hall realmente culpable o sólo es un imbécil que se inventa historias? Incluso el agente del FBI llega a un punto en el que empieza a dudar si van a por el verdadero asesino. Haciendo que el espectador también dude y descubra la verdad con el paso de los episodios.
I like to highlight female filmmakers and in this case I must mention the excellent cinematography work done by Natalie Kingston, creating that cold prison atmosphere by masterfully playing with shadows, making some scenes beautifully terrifying. Not because anything happens on a physical level, just because of the interactions of the two characters. Totally contrasting with the scenes that take place outside the prison. The screenplay was in charge of the great author Dennis Lehane, I love several of his novels and the film adaptations that have been made. The direction was divided between three filmmakers with experience in television series, the one I recognized when the credits appeared on screen was Joe Chappelle, the other two I don't think I've seen much of.
Actor Taron Egerton plays James Keene, fitting the character perfectly as he is handsome and has an incredible physique. In the first episode he has a nearly nude scene that is sure to delight fans of the actor. Some may find those scenes very cliché, but the real Keene was a man with a lot of luck conquering girls and had a life full of luxuries thanks to the money he earned selling drugs. Egerton gives an excellent performance, showing his strong and vulnerable side at the same time.
But the actor who surprises is Paul Walter Houser. He is the one in charge of playing Larry Hall, he is helped a lot by a certain physical resemblance, but Houser is an expert in playing this kind of docile looking characters, who look silly, but at the same time are disturbing. I'm glad that actors so radically opposed to the Hollywood stereotype are progressing in their careers. The first time I saw the actor and was captivated by a character was in a series about the world of mixed martial arts: Kingdom. Bravo to Paul walter Houser!
I can't fail to mention Greg Kinnear, an actor who stands out in every scene he appears in, with a simple gesture he says more than a thousand words and is a pleasure to watch. Who remembers the movie that made him famous, right? As Good As It Gets with Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt, where Kinnear played a gay character. I've been a fan ever since.
Another great actor who worked on this miniseries was Ray Liotta. It was his last acting job before he died. He plays the former cop and father of James: Jim Keene. A real pleasure to see him on screen again, an actor who became a great supporting actor for any production and for me he will be the guy who always wanted to be a gangster in the movie Godfellas.
Lots of men in the cast, what happened to the women? Being a prison thriller, it's mostly male actors, but there is one important female character, FBI agent Mc Cauley who is the one who arrests and then recruits Keene. She is played by actress Sepideh Moafi whom I had seen in the series The Deuce and in the movie The Killing of Two Lovers, which I have not reviewed. I have it pending.
Blackbird is a story based on true events that will not leave you indifferent. The ending is bittersweet and where the actors magnify the miniseries, which was very short and that's why I want to look for the book because I want to go deeper into the facts. I recommend it, it is worth watching.

Me gusta destacar a las mujeres cineastas y en este caso debo mencionar el excelente trabajo de fotografía realizado por Natalie Kingston, creando esa atmósfera fría de la prisión jugando magistralmente con las sombras, haciendo que algunas escenas sean bellamente terroríficas. No porque ocurra algo a nivel físico, sólo por las interacciones de los dos personajes. Contrastando totalmente con las escenas que se desarrollan fuera de la prisión. El guion estuvo a cargo del gran autor Dennis Lehane, me encantan varias de sus novelas y las adaptaciones al cine que han hecho. la dirección se dividió entre tres cineastas con experiencia en series de televisión, el que reconocí cuando salía los créditos en pantalla fue a Joe Chappelle, de los otros dos no creo que he visto mucho.
El actor Taron Egerton interpreta a James Keene, encajando perfectamente con el personaje ya que es guapo y tiene un físico increíble. En el primer episodio tiene una escena casi desnuda que seguro que hará las delicias de los fans del actor. Algunos pueden encontrar esas escenas muy tópicas, pero el verdadero Keene era un hombre con mucha suerte conquistando chicas y tenía una vida llena de lujos gracias al dinero que ganaba vendiendo drogas. Egerton hace una interpretación excelente, mostrando su lado fuerte y vulnerable al mismo tiempo.
Pero el actor que sorprende es Paul Walter Houser. Él es el encargado de interpretar a Larry Hall, le ayuda mucho cierto parecido físico, pero Houser es un experto en interpretar a este tipo de personajes de aspecto dócil, que parecen tontos, pero al mismo tiempo son inquietantes. Me alegro de que actores tan radicalmente opuestos al estereotipo de Hollywood progresen en sus carreras. La primera vez que vi al actor y me cautivó con un personaje fue en una serie sobre el mundo de las artes marciales mixtas: Kingdom. ¡Bravo por Paul walter Houser!

Blackbird es una historia basada en hechos reales que no te dejará indiferente. El final es agridulce y donde los actores magnifican la miniserie, que fue muy corta y por eso quiero buscar el libro porque quiero profundizar en los hechos. La recomiendo, vale la pena verla.
