Does the name Álex Pina ring a bell? In Spain he was already known, for being a producer of successful series : Los Hombres de Paco, Los Serrano, El Barco, among other projects in which he was involved made him known in Spain. From 2015 he began to be better known in other parts of the world, thanks to series like Vis a Vis, which managed to be liked outside the Spanish borders.

But it was when Netflix turned the series La Casa de Papel into a worldwide phenomenon, when the producer reached his greatest success internationally. La Casa de Papel is followed in many parts of the world and is a super success of television made in Spain.

Last year Alex Pina premiered another series on Netflix, but it received several negative reviews and apparently failed to repeat the success of La Casa de Papel. A few months ago it was announced that Líneas Blancas was definitely cancelled and would not have a second season. A small slip, it is something normal in the audiovisual industry, it is almost impossible to make continuous successes.

Last weekend the new production created by Pina premiered on the streaming platform Netflix. A series with a first season of eight episodes and a frenetic pace. It's called Sky Rojo and has the characteristic seal of the creator If you like La Casa de Papel, this production will fascinate you.

It has everything good and bad that we can imagine in a production of Älex Pina. I watched it all in one night, because its three main characters have left me enchanted. Violence, sex, black humor in eight insane episodes. There are things I didn't like, I'll tell you about them later, but the product in general caught me with its story and I already want to see the second season.

En España ya era muy conocido, por ser productor de series de televisión de éxito: Los Hombres de Paco, Los Serrano, El Barco, entre otros de los proyectos donde estuvo involucrado lo dieron a conocer en España. A partir del 2015 comienza a ser más conocido en otras partes del mundo, gracias a series como Vis a Vis, que lograron gustar fuera de las fronteras españolas.

Pero fue Cuando Netflix convirtió a la serie La Casa de Papel en un fenómeno mundial, que el productor logro su mayor éxito a nivel internacional. La Casa de Papel es seguida en muchas partes del mundo, un extraordinario suceso de la televisión hecha en España.

El año pasado Álex Pina estreno en Netflix otra serie, pero recibió varias críticas negativas y al parecer no logro repetir el éxito de La Casa de Papel. Hace unos meses se anuncio que se cancelaba definitivamente White Lines y no tendría segunda temporada. Un pequeño resbalón, es algo normal en la industria audiovisual, es casi imposible hacer puros éxitos continuos.

El fin de semana pasado se estreno en la plataforma de streaming Netflix la nueva producción creada por Pina. Una serie con una primera temporada de ocho episodios y un ritmo frenético. Se llama Sky Rojo y tiene el sello característico de este creador. Si te gusta la Casa de Papel, esta producción te va a fascinar.

Tiene todo lo bueno y lo malo que podemos imaginar en una producción de Älex Pina. La vi completa en una sola noche, porque sus tres protagonistas me han dejado encantado. Violencia, sexo, humor negro en ocho episodios demenciales. Hay cosas que no me gustaron , se las contare más adelante, pero el producto en general me atrapo con su historia y ya deseo ver la segunda temporada.

What is the plot of Sky Rojo?

Romeo owns a brothel in Tenerife, where many of the girls who work as prostitutes have been victims of white slavery. On the day of his wife's funeral, Gina, of Cuban origin, asks him to pay her debt so she can get her passport and be free, but this does not happen. After an argument that ends in a fight with serious injuries. Two other girls, Coral, a professional Spaniard who has fled her past and entered the brothel on her own, along with Wendy, an Argentine lesbian who entered prostitution looking for a better future for herself and her partner. They get involved in the fight and apparently kill Romeo, during the escape they also kill the Madam of the place and embark on a journey across the island, while being chased by Moises and Christian, two brothers who work as Romeo's thugs. Is Romeo dead? Are they doomed to be prostitutes forever? Will the three girls manage to escape? Or will they die trying?

Romeo es dueño de un burdel en Tenerife, donde muchas de las chicas que trabajan como prostitutas han sido víctimas de la trata de blancas. El día del funeral de su esposa, Gina, de origen cubano, pide pagar su deuda para que le entreguen su pasaporte y ser libre, pero eso no ocurre. Tras una discusión que termina en pelea con heridas graves. Otras dos chicas, Coral, una española profesional que huye de su pasado y entro a trabajar por su cuenta en el burdel, junto a Wendy , una argentina, lesbiana que entro a la prostitución buscando un mejor futuro para ella y su pareja. Se involucran en la pelea y al parecer matan a Romeo, durante la huida también matan a la Madam del lugar y comienza una huida por toda la isla, mientras son perseguidas por Moisés y Christian, dos hermanos que trabajan como matones de Romeo. ¿Está muerto Romeo? ¿Están condenadas a ser prostitutas siempre? ¿Lograran escapar las tres chicas? ¿O morirán intentándolo?

What I have just told you takes place in the first episode. The three protagonists of the story embark on an unhinged escape from the men who have been sexually exploiting them. Earning a lot of money, while accumulating debts that they must pay, with no hope of breaking free and leaving that life behind.

One thing I appreciate is the length of the episodes. There are eight episodes and each one lasts less than half an hour. It is a short series and because of its length, everything happens fast, there is no room for filler scenes. This decision seems to me totally right, because they give it a sweeping pace that keeps us constantly in tension, attentive to everything that happens.

As the protagonists flee, we learn more about their lives and how they came to work in that brothel. Through flashbacks we are shown how Gina was sold and tricked from Cuba. Wendy's love for her partner, leaving behind the dangerous neighborhood of Buenos Aires, to find a better future in Spain.

And of course, the enigmatic Coral. A woman addicted to narcotics and who is a prepared and intelligent biology teacher who, for some strange reason, decided to get into the world of prostitution. Apparently, she is hiding from someone she hurt in the past.

Three women from different worlds, united by the oldest profession in the world and by the madness they commit, beating Romeo almost to death. Now they will have to be more united, make stronger the bonds of friendship, to find a way to escape from the dangerous thugs who pursue them.

Lo que acabo de contar, ocurre en el primer episodio. Las tres protagonistas de la historia se embarcan en una desquiciada huida de los hombres que las han estado explotando sexualmente. Haciendo mucho dinero, mientras ellas acumulan deudas que deben pagar, sin esperanza de lograr ser libres y dejar esa vida atrás.

Agradezco la duración de los episodios. Son ocho episodios y cada uno dura menos de media hora. Es una serie corta y por su duración, todo sucede rápido, no hay lugar para escenas de relleno. Me parece totalmente acertada esta decisión, porque le imprimen un ritmo arrollador que nos mantiene constantemente en tensión, atento a todo lo que ocurre.

A medida que las protagonistas huyen, conoceremos más a fondo sus vidas y como llegaron a trabajar en ese Burdel. Por medio de flashbacks nos muestran como Gina fue vendida y engaña desde Cuba. El amor de Wendy por su pareja, dejando el peligroso Barrio de Buenos Aires que deja atrás, para encontrar un mejor futuro en España.

Y por supuesto, la enigmática Coral. Una mujer que es adicta a los narcóticos y que es una mujer preparada, inteligente, profesora de biología que por alguna extraña razón, decidió meterse en el mundo de la prostitución. Al parecer esta escondiéndose de alguien a quien le hizo daño en el pasado.

Tres mujeres de mundos diferentes, unidas por la profesión más antigua del mundo y por la locura que cometen, al golpear casi hasta la muerte a Romeo. Ahora deberán ser mas unidas, hacer mas fuertes los lazos de amistad, para poder encontrar la forma de escapar de los peligrosos matones que las persiguen.

The flashback will also cover the life of Romeo, the brothel owner. How Carol becomes his favorite girl and how he behaves with all the women who work there.

Likewise, Moses and Christian, the brothers who work for Romeo and have a sick mother, have importance within the story. Moisés is the most focused, he is a murderer who owes Romeo his life for an event that happened years ago. He will have an affair with Coral, on the sly. He is very protective of Christian, his younger brother, who is addicted to drugs and has an overly violent character. Christian is the typical delinquent who, when looking at him badly, makes him go into a state of uncontrollable rage.

Los Flashback también abarcaran la vida de Romeo, el dueño del Burdel y como Carol se convierte en su chica favorita. Ademas, la forma en que se comportan con todas las mujeres que trabajan en el lugar.

Igualmente Moisés y Christian, los hermanos que trabajan para Romeo, con una madre enferma, tiene importancia dentro de la historia. Moisés es el más centrado, es un asesino que le debe la vida a Romeo por un hecho que ocurrió hace años. Tendrá un romance con Coral, a escondidas. Protege mucho a Christian, su hermano menor, que es adicto a las drogas y tiene un carácter demasiado violento. Christian es el típico delincuente que con mirarlo de mala manera lo hace entrar en un estado de ira incontrolable.

Among the similarities with La Casa de Papel, is the fact that Coral, recurrently plays the narrator. In the style of what Tokio does in La Casa de Papel. We will hear Coral's voiceover in all the episodes of this first season.

I loved the three characters, each one fulfilling a specific role, according to their personality. But it's Wendy, the Argentinean, who left me in love. I think Coral has a lot of protagonism and I want to see more of Wendy on screen.

The series is for adults, there is a considerable amount of nudity, sex, bad language and a lot of violence. I love these things in both movies and TV series, so this series seems to be made especially for my tastes.

I enjoyed more the black humor in the first episodes, in the middle of the season, it leaves a little bit aside that acid humor, to show us more violent scenes and go deeper into each of the characters. But in the last episodes, that touch of humor and bad humor returns, leaving me wanting more.

Will there be a second season? From the way the first season ends and the good reception from professional critics, I'm absolutely sure there will be! Of course there will be a second season. There are several cliffhangers that close this first batch of episodes. Yes, in the style of La Casa de Papel, which gives us breathtaking moments, leaving us anxious to see the continuation.

Entre las similitudes con La Casa de Papel, está el hecho que Coral, hace frecuentemente de narradora. Al estilo de lo que hace Tokyo en La Casa de Papel. Escucharemos la voz en off e Coral, en todos los episodios de esta primera temporada.

Me encantaron los tres personajes, cada una cumpliendo un rol especifico, de acuerdo a su personalidad. Pero es Wendy, la argentina la que me dejo enamorado. Creo que Coral tiene mucho protagonismo y yo quiero ver más en pantalla a Wendy.

La series es para adultos, hay una considerable cantidad de escenas con desnudos, sexo, malas palabras y mucha violencia. Estas cosas me encantan ya sea en película o serie de TV, así que esta serie parece hecha especialmente para mis gustos.
El humor negro lo disfrute más en los primeros episodios, a mitad de temporada, se deja de lado un poco ese humor ácido, para mostrarnos más escenas violentas y profundizar en cada uno de los personajes. Pero en los últimos episodios, regresa ese toque de humor y mala ostia que me ha dejado con ganas de más.

¿Habrá segunda temporada? Por la forma en que termina la primera temporada y la buena receptividad por parte de los críticos profesionales. ¡Estoy absolutamente seguro que sí! Claro que tendrá segunda temporada. Son varios cliffhanger que cierran esta primera tanda de episodios. Si, al estilo de la Casa de Papel, que nos da momentos impresionantes, quedando ansiosos de ver la continuación.

But it's not all positive. what's not to like? The creator seems to have fallen into the discourse of radical feminists who hate men. All the male characters are evil or stigmatized by the discourse that drives the story, as beings who do wrong because they are brothel customers.

There is one scene that struck me as totally out of context, in which Wendy reproaches a vet who is forced to help them, that by being a client of the brothel and paying for sex, it is a bad thing that has caused harm to women.Please! It is bold to make such a damning statement. It seems part of an orchestrated campaign to condemn this profession in Spain, which many women exercise of their own free will.

It is true that human trafficking exists and there are concrete cases in which gangs dedicated to it have been dismantled. They continue to exist and there are victims. But it is also true that there are many prostitution sites not only in Spain, but throughout the world, where those who work do so of their own free will. Even more so in these times where even through social networks sex is commercialized.

I understand that two of the characters in the story, and other secondary characters, are victims of exploitation. But it is in this story, it does not mean that it is the reality of all brothels in Spain. I think Álex Pina makes a mistake with the message, to make himself look good with a sector of the left in his country. It is the only detail that was not to my liking. But everything else is very well done and I will be attentive to see the second season.

Pero no todo es positivo. ¿Qué no me gusto? El creado parece haber caído en el discurso de las feministas radicales que odian al hombre. Todos los personajes masculinos son malos o son estigmatizados pro el discurso que maneja la historia, como seres que hacen mal por ser clientes del burdel.

Hay una escena que me pareció totalmente fuera de contexto, en ella, Wendy culpa a un veterinario que es obligado a ayudarlas, que por ser cliente del burdel y pagar por sexo, es algo malo que le ha causado daño a las mujeres. ¡Por favor! Es osado hacer semejante afirmación condenatoria. Parece ser parte de una campa orquestada para condenar en España ese oficio que muchas ejercen por propia voluntad.

Es cierto que existe el tráfico de personas y hay casos concretos donde se han desmantelados bandas dedicadas a eso. Todavía existen y hay víctimas. Pero también es cierto que existen muchas sitios de prostitución no solo en España, en el mundo entero, donde lasque trabajan lo hacen por su propia voluntad. Más en esta época donde hasta por redes sociales se comercializa con el sexo.

Entiendo que dos de los personajes de la historia, y otros personajes secundarios, son víctimas de explotación. Pero es en esta historia, no quiere decir que sea la realidad de todos los burdeles de España. Creo que Álex Pina esta errando con el mensaje, para quedar bien con un sector político de su país. Es el único detalle que no fue de mi agrado. Pero todo lo demás está muy bien hecho y estaré atento de ver la segunda temporada.

She has very good chemistry with the other two actresses, forming a trio of women who go beyond their limits and decide to make their own decisions and confront the villains.

Coral. La chica que huye de un pasado que oculta, adicta a los narcóticos, vuelve a verse implicada en un hecho que la obligara a seguir huyendo, esta vez de hombres más peligroso. Es interpretada por la actriz sevillana Verónica Sánchez, que ya ha trabajado anteriormente en producciones de Álex Pina, como El Embarcadero y Los Serrano. En dos oportunidades ah estado nominada al premio Goya. Tiene muy buena química con las otras dos actrices, conformando un trió de mujeres que traspasan sus límites y deciden tomar sus propias decisiones y enfrentarse a los villanos.

Gina. The young Cuban woman who left a son and her family thinking she would work as a waitress, but the sad reality is that she was sold to a prostitution ring. She tries to regain her freedom and will be the trigger for all the events of the story. She is played by Cuban actress Yany Prado, I don't know her, her career has been focused on Televisa telenovelas and this seems to be her most important work so far.

Gina. La joven chica procedente de Cuba, que dejo un hijo y a su familia pensando que trabajaría de camarera, pero la triste realidad fue que la vendieron a un red de prostitución. Ella intenta recobrar la liberta y será el detonante de todos los acontecimientos de la historia. Es interpretada por la actriz cubana Yany Prado, no la conozco, su carrera ha estado enfocada en telenovelas de Televisa y esta parece ser el trabajo más importante hasta los momentos.

Wendy. The girl from Argentina, who to get out of poverty and have a life with her girlfriend, goes to Spain to work as a prostitute. She is volatile, strong and doesn't mince words to tell uncomfortable truths. She is my favorite character in the series. Wendy is played by Argentine singer and actress Lali Espósito. She is well known in Argentina for her work in Floricienta and other telenovelas. In addition, she has also worked in the movies in her country. Some time ago I saw and reviewed the movie Acusada, where she was the main character. This movie even had a French remake. The personality of the actress fascinates me, I really enjoyed the interviews in the Spanish programs El Hormiguero and La Resistencia. This girl is a volcano.

Wendy. La chica de Argentina, que para salir de la pobreza y tener una vida con su novia, va a España a trabajar de prostituta. Es de carácter volátil, fuerte y sin pelos en la lengua para decir verdades incomodas. Es mi personaje favorito de la serie. Wendy es interpretada por la cantante y actriz argentina Lali Espósito. Ella es muy conocida en Argentina, por su trabajo en Floricienta y otras telenovelas. Además, también ha trabajo en el cine de su país. Hace tiempo vi y reseñe la película Acusada, donde ella era la protagonista. Dicha película tuvo hasta un remake francés. La personalidad de la actriz me fascina, disfrute mucho las entrevistas en los programas españoles El Hormiguero y La Resistencia. Esta chica es un volcán.

Romeo. The nasty brothel owner. Evil, exploitative, a real bad guy. One of those bordering on the caricatured. The first victim of the girls, he will not rest until he takes revenge on them. Romeo is played by actor Asier Etxeandia, known in Spain for his work in the series Velvet. He participated in Almodovar's film Dolor y Gloria and received a Goya nomination.

Romeo. El desagradable dueño del burdel. Malvado, explotador, un malo muy malo. De los que rozan lo caricaturesco. La primera víctima de las chicas, no descansara hasta vengarse de ellas. Moisés. Romeo's man of trust. He is an assassin who carries out all the orders of his boss. Together with his brother, they are in charge of finding the three girls and taking them back to the brothel. Moisés is played by Miguel Ángel Silvestre, an actor I have recently seen in Alex de la Iglesia's series 30 Monedas. This time he is the villain and also in his career he was part of the cast of Velvet.

Moisés. El hombre de confianza de Romeo. Es un asesino que cumple todas las ordenes de su jefe. Junto a su hermano son los encargados de encontrar a las tres chicas y llevarlas de regreso al burdel. Moisés es interpretado por Miguel Ángel Silvestre, actor que que vi hace poco en la serie de Alex de la Iglesia 30 Monedas. En esta oportunidad es el villano y tambien en su trayectoria formo parte del elenco de Velvet.

Christian. The younger brother of Moses, another delinquent, addicted to drugs and prone to fits of rage that always end violently and with a fatality. He is played by the winner of the 2019 Goya award, actor Enric Auquer. His physical characteristics are the perfect ones for this type of character. I have seen several of his previous works, the films Los Inocentes , Quien a Hierro Mata and the miniseries La Línea Invisible.

Christian. El hermano menor de Moisés, otro criminal, adicto a las drogas y propenso a los ataques de ira que siempre terminan de forma violenta y con alguna víctima mortal. Es interpretado por el ganador del premio Goya en el 2019, el actor Enric Auquer. Sus características físicas son las perfectas para este tipo de personajes. He visto varios de sus anteriores trabajos, las películas Los Inocentes, Quine a Hierro Mata y la mini serie La Línea Invisible.

Red Sky I think will be successful on the Netflix platform. After watching the final episode, we realize that they have planned a second season and maybe even a third. The negative point I have already explained, but overall, I liked the series.

Eight episodes of twenty-five minutes each. It's like watching a four-hour movie, with a fast pace, beautiful actresses who make a trio of friends facing fate, with great chemistry between them. I highly recommend this Spanish series.

Sky Rojo creo que tendrá éxito en la plataforma Netflix. Después de ver el episodio final, nos damos cuenta que tienen planeada una segunda temporada y hasta quizás una tercera. El punto negativo ya lo explique, pero en general, la serie me ha gustado.

Ocho episodios, de veinticinco minutos cada uno. Es como ver una película de cuatro horas, con un trepidante ritmo, unas hermosas actrices que hacen un trió de chicas enfrentando al destino, con gran química entre ellas. Te recomiendo esta serie española.
