Hello everyone, fellow fans of good stories, I hope you're doing great! This time, I want to share a new review. After some time off from work, I was finally able to watch a series I was eager to check out: Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. I'll be honest with you: after the first two episodes, I was a bit hesitant. It felt like... more of the same, you know? Another adorable but clumsy Peter Parker... I was ready to say "I'm out," but THANK GOODNESS I stuck with it! This series caught me completely off guard; it went from being just another cartoon to one of my favorite superhero shows in recent memory. It's one of those you absolutely have to watch, and I'm about to tell you why.
The entire plot revolves around a question that is simply... brilliant! And it changes everything: What if Peter Parker's mentor wasn't Tony Stark, but Norman Osborn? Stop and think about that for a second—not a friend, not a cool billionaire, but his future arch-nemesis. From the get-go, that idea alone sets the series on a completely different path from everything we've seen of Spider-Man! And mind you, this isn't a cheap gimmick; it's the heart of the entire season, creating a tense, fascinating dynamic that grips you in a way you don't expect. It's the kind of "what if...?" that elevates the entire story and prevents it from being, yet again, the same origin story we already know by heart.
Hola a todos, amigos fanáticos de las buenas historias, espero que estén super bien! En esta ocasión, les quiero compartir una nueva reseña, luego de un tiempo libre del trabajo, por fin pude ver una serie que tenÃa ansias por revisar, se trata de Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, les soy sincero: después de los dos primeros capÃtulos, estaba con el pie atrás, se sentÃa como... más de lo mismo, ¿saben? Otro Peter Parker adorable pero torpe.. ya estaba listo para decir "paso", pero ¡MENOS MAL que le seguÃ! Esta serie me agarró totalmente desprevenido, pasó de ser una caricatura equis a una de mis series de superhéroes favoritas del último tiempo.. es de esas que tienen que ver sà o sÃ, y ahora mismo les cuento por qué.
Toda la trama gira alrededor de una pregunta que es simplemente... ¡genial!, y que lo cambia todo: ¿Qué pasarÃa si el mentor de Peter Parker no fuera Tony Stark, sino Norman Osborn? Párense a pensar en eso un segundo, no un amigo, no un millonario buena onda, sino su futuro archienemigo.. desde el vamos, esa sola idea pone a la serie en un camino completamente distinto a todo lo que hemos visto de Spider-Man! ojo, no es un truquito barato, es el corazón de toda la temporada, creando una dinámica tensa, fascinante y que te atrapa de una manera que no te esperas. Es el tipo de "¿qué pasarÃa si...?" que eleva toda la historia y evita que sea, de nuevo, la misma historia de origen que ya nos sabemos de memoria..
And we have to talk about Norman Osborn, because... wow, what a character! He is, without a doubt, the best part of the season. What Colman Domingo does with the voice is next-level, a true revelation. He's not the typical, cackling cartoon villain you'd expect, not at all. Domingo gives him a captivating charisma, an imposing seriousness, and an underlying arrogance that makes you perfectly understand why a kid like Peter would be drawn to him. He presents Peter with a twisted version of the classic mantra: "With great power comes great respect." The series is incredibly smart in showing how that philosophy drives everything Norman does. There's a brutal scene where he visits a defeated Otto Octavius in prison, and he's not just there to rub salt in the wound.
He's there to be miserable and cruel, to kick him while he's down with absolute calm because Otto, another genius, refuses to give him the one thing his money can't buy: respect. The fact that the series can show you that vengeful side and, at the same time, moments where he seems to genuinely care about Peter... is insane writing. This is a complex character with a ton of layers, the kind you'd expect in an HBO drama, not a Disney+ animated series. It blew my mind. This toxic relationship is the furnace where this version of Peter is forged, because although he starts off a bit simple, Norman's influence pushes him to the limit.
We see Peter struggling with his own rage, tempted by Norman's advice to "stop holding back." There's a fight with Scorpion—which we'll get to, because wow!—where Peter simply explodes. The series also does an incredible job exploring the idea of Peter becoming a "corporate Spider-Man." Norman gives him everything he could want: cutting-edge tech, resources, a way to be a hero without worrying about rent. But seeing Peter reject all of it in the end because he refuses to be a corporate puppet, to have his identity and ideals sold and monetized by Osborn... whew! It's a super powerful and modern take on his moral compass. It's a struggle that feels both classic and incredibly relevant at the same time.
Y tenemos que hablar de Norman Osborn, porque... ¡uf, qué personajazo! Es, sin duda, lo mejor de la temporada, lo que hace Coleman Domingo con la voz es de otro nivel, una verdadera revelación.. no es el tÃpico jefe malo de risa de villano de caricatura que uno se esperarÃa, para nada, Domingo le da un carisma que te atrapa, una seriedad que impone y una arrogancia por debajo que te hace entender perfectamente por qué un chamo como Peter se sentirÃa atraÃdo por él. Le presenta a Peter una versión toda retorcida del mantra clásico: "Un gran poder conlleva un gran respeto".. la serie es súper inteligente al mostrarte cómo esa filosofÃa mueve cada cosa que hace Norman, hay una escena... ¡brutal!, donde va a visitar a un Otto Octavius ya derrotado en la cárcel, y no está ahà solo para echarle sal a la herida.
Está ahà para ser miserable y cruel, para patearlo en el suelo con toda la calma del mundo porque Otto, otro genio, se niega a darle lo único que su plata no puede comprar: respeto. Que la serie pueda mostrarte esa cara vengativa y, al mismo tiempo, momentos donde parece que de verdad le importa Peter... es una locura de guion.. este es un personaje complejo, con un montón de capas, de esos que uno esperarÃa en un drama de HBO, no en una serie animada de Disney+. Me voló la cabeza.. esta relación tan tóxica es el horno donde se cocina esta versión de Peter, porque, aunque al principio arranca un poco simple, la influencia de Norman lo lleva hasta el lÃmite.
Vemos a Peter luchando con su propia rabia, tentado por el consejo de Norman de "dejar de contenerse".. hay una pelea con Scorpion —de la que ya vamos a hablar, porque ¡wow!— donde Peter simplemente explota, la serie también explora de forma increÃble la idea de que Peter se convierta en un "Spider-Man corporativo". Norman le da todo lo que podrÃa querer: tecnologÃa de punta, recursos, una forma de ser héroe sin preocuparse por pagar la renta, pero ver a Peter rechazar todo eso al final porque se niega a ser una marioneta de una empresa, a que su identidad y sus ideales sean vendidos y monetizados por Osborn... ¡Uf! Es una visión súper poderosa y moderna de su brújula moral.. es una lucha que se siente clásica y súper relevante al mismo tiempo.
Now, you're probably wondering: "Hey, Jesús, but with all this darkness and moral drama, doesn't it lose the essence of who Spider-Man is?" Well, that's where the magic lies, folks: it doesn't lose it at all! This Peter is one of the most genuinely "friendly neighborhood" heroes I've seen. There's a perfect scene where he stops a woman robbing a pizzeria. He recovers the money, immobilizes her, but then he does something more. He asks the owner not to press charges. He sees a desperate person who made a mistake, not a monster. He understands her problem and gives her a second chance. That's it! That's Spider-Man! He doesn't just fight supervillains; he takes care of the people in his neighborhood. It's even revealed that his red and blue suit is a tribute to Captain America, which, let's be honest, makes a lot more sense. He's a good kid, sometimes an idiot, but hopelessly good-natured.
It's a small detail, but it speaks volumes. And the visuals? I had my doubts, but the series nails it. The animation style might be one of those "love it or hate it" things, but I'm firmly on team love. It has an incredible mix of classic '60s comic book designs with modern 3D animation, and the editing is super dynamic. They use split screens and angles that make you feel like you're watching a comic book come to life in the best way possible. The action scenes are... out of this world! The fights with Scorpion are brutal, visceral, and you truly feel that Peter is outmatched. You see him taking a beating, and the sound design makes you feel every punch. It's intense. And don't even get me started on the intro. I didn't skip it once. The theme is an absolute banger, with beautiful, stylized visuals that pay homage to iconic Spidey comic covers.
Ahora, seguro se están preguntando: "Oye, Jesús, pero con tanta oscuridad y drama moral, ¿no se pierde la esencia de quién es Spider-Man?". ¡Pues ahà está la magia, gente: no se pierde para nada! Este Peter es uno de los héroes más genuinamente "amigables vecinos" que he visto, hay una escena que es perfecta. Detiene a una mujer que está robando una pizzerÃa.. recupera la plata, la inmoviliza, pero luego hace algo más. Le pide al dueño que no presente cargos.. ve a una persona desesperada que cometió un error, no a un monstruo, entiende su problema y le da una segunda oportunidad. ¡Eso es! ¡Ese es Spider-Man! No solo se pelea con supervillanos; cuida a la gente de su barrio, incluso se revela que su traje rojo y azul es un homenaje al Capitán América, lo cual, seamos honestos, tiene muchÃsimo más sentido, el es un niño bueno, a a veces idiota, pero un bonachón sin remedio.
Es un detalle chiquito, pero que dice un montón. ¿Y lo visual? TenÃa mis dudas, pero la serie lo hace genial, que el estilo de animación puede ser de esos que "o lo amas o lo odias", pero yo estoy firmemente en el equipo que lo ama, tiene una mezcla increÃble de diseños clásicos de los cómics de los 60 con animación 3D moderna, y la edición es súper dinámica. Usan pantallas divididas y ángulos que te hacen sentir que estás viendo un cómic cobrar vida de la mejor manera posible.. las escenas de acción son... ¡de otro planeta! Las peleas con Scorpion son brutales, viscerales, y de verdad sientes que Peter está superado, lo ves recibiendo una paliza, y el diseño de sonido hace que sientas cada golpe. Es algo intenso.. ni me hagan hablar de la intro. No me la salté ni una sola vez, el tema es un temazo, con unas visuales preciosas y estilizadas que le rinden homenaje a portadas icónicas de los cómics de Spidey.
One of the smartest decisions they made was to make this a completely new continuity, even though the idea was born from an MCU concept. That creative freedom, my friends, is a blessing. It gives us incredible versions of characters like Doc Ock and Scorpion without being tied to what already happened in the MCU. But, at the same time, and this is key, it uses MCU elements to make the world feel familiar. The Sokovia Accords and what happened in Civil War are important to Norman's motivations, and there are cameos from other heroes, including a great appearance by Daredevil, that feel earned and exciting without ever stealing the show from Peter. He remains the protagonist.
The series even finds a super clever way to flip the classic origin. Here, Uncle Ben's death happens before Peter gets his powers. This means Peter never receives the famous "with great power comes great responsibility" speech. And that creates a huge void in his life, a desperate need for a mentor, which makes him much easier for Norman to manipulate. The absence of Ben's wisdom becomes a driving force in the story, and it makes Norman's twisted version of the line—the one about "great respect"—hit you like a punch to the gut. The rest of the characters are also great, with people like Lonnie Lincoln having his own well-developed story that doesn't fall into the "I turned evil overnight" cliché. There's also Nico, a character I liked, and I hope they develop him further. I also saw some chemistry with the new Harry Osborn. I hope these characters continue to evolve.
Look, is it perfect? Not quite. There are some changes to the spider-bite origin that involve time travel and paradoxes, which I found a bit needlessly convoluted, but I have to admit they use it to give a super poetic and satisfying ending to Norman's arc, so I understand why they did it. It's a testament to how good the series is that it can change something so fundamental and still feel 100% Spider-Man. After a season that saw him challenged, beaten, and pushed to his moral limit, Peter proves he's a hero not because of destiny, but because of the choices he makes every day. He's charming, he's annoying, he's super empathetic, and he's incredibly independent.
Final verdict? I give it a solid 9/10! The point I'm docking is for that little detail about the origin that I'm still not fully sold on, but everything else—the characters, the script, the action, the heart—is simply phenomenal. This series breathes passion and intelligence in every second. It's a fresh, bold, and surprisingly deep vision that proves there are still new and exciting stories to tell with Peter Parker. Seriously, if you have even the slightest affection for Spidey, you owe it to yourselves to watch this new version. And well, that's it for today's review! I hope you liked it! Take care! Bye!
Una de las decisiones más inteligentes que tomaron fue hacer de esta una continuidad completamente nueva, a pesar de que la idea nació de un concepto del MCU.. esa libertad creativa, amigos, es una bendición, nos dan versiones increÃbles de personajes como Doc Ock y Scorpion sin estar atados a lo que ya pasó en el MCU.. pero, al mismo tiempo, y esto es clave, usan elementos del MCU para que el mundo se sienta conocido, los Acuerdos de Sokovia y lo que pasó en Civil War son importantes para las motivaciones de Norman, y hay cameos de otros héroes, incluyendo una aparición genial de Daredevil, que se sienten ganados y emocionantes sin robarle nunca el show a Peter.. él sigue siendo el protagonista. La serie hasta encuentra una forma súper inteligente de darle la vuelta al origen clásico.. aquÃ, la muerte del TÃo Ben pasa antes de que Peter obtenga sus poderes, esto significa que Peter nunca recibe el famoso discurso de "un gran poder conlleva una gran responsabilidad".
Y eso crea un vacÃo gigante en su vida, una necesidad desesperada de tener un mentor, lo que lo hace mucho más fácil de manipular para Norman.. la ausencia de la sabidurÃa de Ben se convierte en una fuerza que mueve la historia, y hace que cuando Norman le suelta su versión torcida de la frase —esa del "gran respeto"—, te pegue como un puñetazo en el estómago. El resto de los personajes también son geniales, con gente como Lonnie Lincoln que tiene su propia historia bien desarrollada y que no cae en el cliché de "me volvà malo de un dÃa para otro", también esta Nico que es un personaje que me gustó, y que espero lo desarrollen más adelante, además también và algo de quÃmica con el nuevo Harry Osborn.. espero esto personajes sigan evolucionando.
A ver, ¿es perfecta? No del todo.. hay unos cambios en el origen de la picadura de araña que meten viajes en el tiempo, paradojas, y que me parecieron un poco enredados sin necesidad, pero tengo que admitir que los usan para darle un final súper poético y satisfactorio al arco de Norman, asà que entiendo por qué lo hicieron.. es una prueba de lo buena que es la serie el hecho de que pueda cambiar algo tan fundamental y aun asà se sienta 100% Spider-Man. Después de una temporada que lo vio retado, golpeado y llevado a su lÃmite moral, Peter demuestra que es un héroe no por el destino, sino por las decisiones que toma todos los dÃas, es encantador, es fastidioso, es súper empático y es increÃblemente independiente.
Veredicto final? Le doy un 9/10, ¡sólido! El puntito que le quito es por ese detallito del origen que todavÃa no me convence del todo, pero todo lo demás —los personajes, el guion, la acción, el corazón— es simplemente fenomenal. Esta serie respira pasión e inteligencia en cada segundo.. es una visión fresca, atrevida y sorprendentemente profunda que demuestra que todavÃa hay historias nuevas y emocionantes que contar con Peter Parker, en serio, si le tienen el más mÃnimo cariño a Spidey, se deben a ustedes mismos ver esta nueva versión.. y bueno, hasta aquà la reseña de hoy!
