Welcome my dear tortured internet travelers and thank you very much for having made a temporary stop in my post, all good things come in threes so today I will complete the trilogy of horror movie suggestions that ChatGPT recommended to me, I have to highlight that I liked the previous recommendations quite a lot, since they had some kind of particularity that made them stand out, The film "Martyrs" is no exception, standing out for its high content of violence and blood. Without further ado, prepare to feel uncomfortable, as we are about to begin.
Bienvenidos mis queridos viajeros torturados del internet y muchas gracias por haber hecho una parada temporal en mi post, todo lo bueno viene de de a tres por lo que hoy completaré la trilogía de las sugerencias de filmes de terror que me recomendó ChatGPT, he de destacar que las previas recomendaciones me gustaron bastante, ya que tenían alguna clase de particularidad que las hacía destacar, la cinta “Martyrs” no es la excepción al resaltar por su alto contenido de violencia y sangre. Sin más que agregar prepárense para sentir incomodidad pues estamos por comenzar.

Martyrs is a French film released in 2008, directed by Pascal Laugier, produced by Canal+ and Wild Bunch, has a duration of 1 hour and 39 minutes. Es un filme de terror, la historia se enfoca en Lucie una niña que se escapa de un sitio en donde la tenían cautiva, después de ser acogida esta se vuelve distante y arisca, sin embargo otra niña llamada Anna se compadece de ella y trata de acercarse, con el pasar del tiempo Lucie decide contarle que existe una presencia que la asecha y le hace daño cada cierto tiempo, la niña achaca el asedio de dicho ente como un remanente producto de las personas que la tenían cautiva. Pasados 15 años desde su escape Lucie decide tomar venganza de aquellos que le hicieron daño sin considerar todas las implicaciones y consecuencias que esto le traerá tanto a ella como a su amiga.

The construction of the world has little exploration, throughout the film the scenery is not very varied, however the setting that has the most presence manages to convey a feeling of depression and discomfort quite strong because it reflects one of the most deplorable ways of living under the most horrible and degrading conditions.

The plot is full of grotesque and brutal moments, the film does not skimp on showing strong scenes with an obscene amount of blood, the above is accompanied by degrading situations of abuse that are very uncomfortable to watch. Narratively the film is an empty shell, its "appeal" lies in showing violent scenes and when it tries to justify them it exposes a pathetic and very ambiguous reason that lacks any iota of logic, this lack of a coherent story tries to be made up for with pure and hard crudeness, this lack of a coherent plot means that the few twists it has cannot be taken seriously; I have to mention that at first the film seemed to want to raise psychological nuances of trauma and so on, however all this is sent to hell to give way to senseless carnage. The duration is relatively short but as it has constant scenes of abuse and horrible situations this one becomes eternal, it should be noted that at no time is the film scary, it is only unpleasant and uncomfortable to watch.
La trama se encuentra plagada de momentos grotescos y brutales, el filme no escatima en mostrar escenas fuertes con una cantidad obscena de sangre, lo anterior va acompañado de situaciones denigrantes de abuso que son muy incómodas de ver. Narrativamente la cinta es un cascarón vacío, su “atractivo” radica en mostrar escenas violentas y cuando intenta justificarlas expone una razón patética y muy ambigua que carece de todo ápice de lógica, esta carencia de una historia congruente intenta ser suplida con crudeza pura y dura, esta falta de una trama coherente hace que los pocos giros que tenga no puedan ser tomados en serio; he de mencionar que en un primer momento la cinta parecía querer plantear matices psicólogos de trauma y demas, no obstante todo esto es mandado al carajo para dar paso a una carnicería sin sentido. La duración es relativamente corta pero como tiene escenas constantes de abusos y de situaciones horribles esta se hace eterna, cabe destacar que en ningún momento la película da miedo solamente es desagradable e incómoda de ver.

The characters don't have anything that characterizes them or anything that resembles it, they are simply there to torture or to be tortured, at a given moment they try to capture a kind of post-traumatic stress with one or another character but this is only mentioned slightly so it doesn't amount to anything.

Martyrs, more than a film, ends up being something unpleasant that only seeks to show various types of tortures and horrible situations, its plot lacks any kind of sense and is simply a section that seeks to give some kind of meaning to all the raw events it contains. It is for all of the above that it deserves 2.5 stars out of 7, a film that requires a strong stomach to be able to see it completely, which I only recommend if you want to experience what it would feel like to be imprisoned under the most inhumane conditions and with constant torture.
Martyrs más que un filme termina siendo algo desagradable que solo busca mostrar diversos tipos de torturas y situaciones horribles, su trama carece de cualquier clase de sentido y sencillamente es un apartado que busca darle alguna clase de sentido a todos los sucesos crudos que alberga. Es por todo lo anterior que merece 2.5 estrellas de 7, una película que requiere estomago fuerte para poder verla completamente, que solo recomiendo si quieres experimentar lo que se sentiría estar preso bajo las condiciones más inhumanas y con torturas constantes.
