Vi Drop una película que salió hace poco y está dirigida por Christopher Landon, para mí una de sus películas más conocidas es Happy Death Day y Freaky, en esta oportunidad este thriller mezcla una cita romántica con suspenso psicológico, me pareció que queda muy bien la combinación. Esta película trata sobre una mamá viuda que se llama Violet que después de un buen tiempo sin pareja decide conocer a alguien y lo conoce por una página de esas de citas, yo nunca he experimentado con una de esas páginas, la verdad me da un poco de miedo pero al parecer este tipo con el que ella sale es normal y es bueno, aunque al principio lo dude y pensé que era medio psicópata porque es demasaido bueno para decir verdad jajaja. El hecho es que ella se encuentra con Henry en un restaurante súper elegante para su primera cita pero las cosas se ponen bastante raras cuando empieza a recibir mensajes anónimos en su teléfono a través de una app que se llama drops, y lo que está recibiendo son amenazas o sea le dicen que tiene que matar a Henry o si no van a matar a su hermana y a su hijo que los secuestraron en su casa, me puse a pensar que hubiese hecho en su lugar y la verdad no quisiera estar en sus zapatos, a mí que me dejen con mis problemas normales prefiero no salir a conocer a nadie jajaja.
Me gustó bastante la película porque tiene tensión todo el tiempo y no hay efectos especiales exagerados o escenas de acción súper elaboradas, toda la película pasa en tiempo real en este restaurante de lujo y lo mejor es que nunca te aburres porque siempre está pasando algo y yo estuve atenta con el Sherlock Holmes activado tratando de descubrir quien es el de las bromitas por el celular. Además la química entre Megan Fehee y Brandon Slenar es muy buena, se siente real la conexión que tienen a pesar de que ella está pasando por el peor momento de su vida, el tipo es super comprensivo y no parece un idiota como en muchas películas así, porque se da cuenta de que algo anda mal y trata de ayudar y eso hizo que me sintiera más enamorada de la pareja. Megan Fehee tiene que actuar como si estuviera pasando un buen rato en su cita mientras por dentro está muriendo de miedo y la verdad me convenció y Brandon Slenar es todo masculino y encantador. El misterio de quién está enviando los mensajes se mantiene bien durante toda la película, hay pistas falsas que te hacen sospechar de diferentes personas en el restaurante y cuando finalmente se revela la verdad tiene sentido pero también me sorprendió un poco yo soy de las que siempre adivino quien es el malo o todo el rollo pero esta vez no la pegué. Aunque el final si es algo falso, desafían todos los límites de la gravedad y del tiempo porque la mujer llega a la casa volando para salvar a su familia, eso fue lo que no me gustó demasiado falso.
Esta película pareciera que tuviera como dos niveles diferentes, por un lado es un thriller psicológico con toda la tensión de los mensajes amenazantes y por otro es una comedia romántica incómoda donde él está tratando de tener una cita normal mientras ella está completamente estresada, es como si fueran dos películas diferentes pasando al mismo tiempo, pero la verdad eta combinación funcionó. Hay un mesonero en el restaurante que se llama Matt que a mí parecer está allí para distraer porque también pensé que era él, siempre pensé que eran todos, realmente creo que su papel es más para bajar la tensión y agregar algo de humor a toda la situación. También me gustó como manejan el tema de la tecnología y lo vulnerable que nos hace, la idea de que alguien pueda enviarte mensajes sin tu permiso y usarlos para chantajearte es algo que sucede más común de lo que creemos y la verdad cuando te pasa es aterrador y no estoy mintiendo, me pasó y te sientes espiado, claro no eran mensajes amenazadores pero si había alguien que le mandaba mensajes a mi pareja, fotos de nosotros dos paseando en el centro comercial y así y yo me partí la cabeza tratando de entender quien nos estaba espiando, al final nunca lo supe pero fue bastante desagradable. Otro tema que también toca la película es sobre el trauma y violencia doméstica a través del pasado de Violet, no es nada pesado o dramático más bien se integra bien a la historia principal y le da más profundidad al personaje.
El restaurante me encantó es todo elegante y sofisticado aunque también da algo de claustrofobia cuando la tensión aumenta, estar en un piso alto de un edificio es demasiado peligroso con todo lo que está pasando y la vista panorámica de la ciudad contrasta bien con el horror psicológico que está viviendo la protagonista. Lo chimbo es que hay unas partes donde la lógica desaparece como cuando el malo logra hacer todas estas cosas elaboradas en el restaurante sin que nadie se de cuenta y en el final cuando ella que colgada de una tela y no se rompe jajajaja esa no me la comí, pero bueno estaba bien metida en la historia y obvié un poco eso, la verdad creo que si no te pones a analizar cada detalle disfrutas de Drop, es una peli para pasar un buen rato.
Drop es una película entretenida de principio a fin por supuesto no es ninguna obra maestra, yo le doy un 6.5/10 porque se nota que Christopher Landon tiene bastante experiencia en este tipo de películas y le salió bien la forma en que mezcló los géneros, otra cosa que ayuda es que los actores principales tienen la química necesaria para que te importe lo que les pase y te metas en la historia, es una buena peli para pasar una noche de cine en pareja o con amigos que les guste el suspenso, no es demasiado intensa como para traumatizar a nadie pero si tiene bastante tensión y buen ritmop porque cada escena aporta algo a la historia y no hay relleno innecesario, voy a confesar que no esperaba mucho de esta peli pero terminé pasando un buen rato.

I saw Drop a movie that came out recently and is directed by Christopher Landon, for me one of his best known movies is Happy Death Day and Freaky, this time this thriller mixes a romantic date with psychological suspense, I thought the combination is very good. This movie is about a widowed mom named Violet who after a long time without a partner decides to meet someone and she meets him through one of those dating sites, I have never experimented with one of those sites, the truth is a little scary but apparently this guy she is dating is normal and good, although at first I doubted it and I thought he was kind of psycho because he is too good to tell the truth hahaha. The fact is that she meets Henry in a super fancy restaurant for their first date but things get pretty weird when she starts receiving anonymous messages on her phone through an app called drops, and what she is receiving are threats or they tell her that she has to kill Henry or else they will kill her sister and her son who kidnapped them in her house, I started to think what I would have done in her place and the truth is that I would not want to be in her shoes, I would rather not go out and meet anyone hahahaha.
I quite liked the movie because it has tension all the time and there are no exaggerated special effects or super elaborate action scenes, the whole movie happens in real time in this fancy restaurant and the best thing is that you never get bored because there is always something going on and I was attentive with the Sherlock Holmes activated trying to find out who is the one with the jokes on the cell phone. Also the chemistry between Megan Fehee and Brandon Slenar is very good, it feels real the connection they have even though she is going through the worst moment of her life, the guy is super understanding and doesn't seem like a jerk like in many movies like that, because he realizes something is wrong and tries to help and that made me feel more in love with the couple. Megan Fehee has to act like she's having a good time on her date while inside she's scared to death and she actually won me over and Brandon Slenar is all masculine and charming. The mystery of who is sending the messages is well maintained throughout the movie, there are false clues that make you suspect different people in the restaurant and when the truth is finally revealed it makes sense but it also surprised me a bit I'm one of those who always guesses who the bad guy is or the whole shebang but this time I didn't stick it. Although the ending is a little fake, they defy all the limits of gravity and time because the woman arrives at the house flying to save her family, that's what I didn't like too fake.
This movie seems to have like two different levels, on one hand it's a psychological thriller with all the tension of the threatening messages and on the other it's an awkward romantic comedy where he's trying to have a normal date while she's completely stressed out, it's like two different movies happening at the same time, but the truth is that this combination worked. There is a waiter in the restaurant named Matt who to me seems to be there to distract because I thought it was him too, I always thought it was everyone, I really think his role is more to lower the tension and add some humor to the whole situation. I also liked how they handle the topic of technology and how vulnerable it makes us, the idea that someone can send you messages without your permission and use them to blackmail you is something that happens more common than we think and the truth when it happens to you is terrifying and I'm not lying, It happened to me and you feel spied on, of course they were not threatening messages but there was someone who was sending messages to my partner, pictures of the two of us walking in the mall and so on and I racked my brain trying to figure out who was spying on us, in the end I never knew but it was quite unpleasant. Another theme that the movie also touches on is about trauma and domestic violence through Violet's past, it's nothing heavy or dramatic rather it integrates well with the main story and gives more depth to the character.
I loved the restaurant, it's all elegant and sophisticated although it also gives some claustrophobia when the tension increases, being on a high floor of a building is too dangerous with everything that is happening and the panoramic view of the city contrasts well with the psychological horror that the protagonist is living. The cool thing is that there are some parts where logic disappears as when the bad guy manages to do all these elaborate things in the restaurant without anyone noticing and in the end when she hangs from a cloth and does not break hahahaha I did not eat that one, but well I was well into the story and obviated a little that, the truth is that if you do not get to analyze every detail you enjoy Drop, it is a movie to have a good time.
Drop is an entertaining movie from beginning to end of course it is not a masterpiece, I give it a 6.5/10 because you can tell that Christopher Landon has a lot of experience in this kind of movies and the way he mixed the genres worked out well, another thing that helps is that the main actors have the necessary chemistry to make you care about what happens to them and get you into the story, it's a good movie to spend a movie night as a couple or with friends who like suspense, it's not too intense to traumatize anyone but it has enough tension and good rhythm because each scene contributes something to the story and there is no unnecessary filler, I will confess that I didn't expect much from this movie but I ended up having a good time.
