¡Querido y gentil lector! ✨, es del agrado de esta autora informar, que finalmente la temporada del hermano Bridgerton más libertino ha culminado, y con este hecho sin precedentes, puedo anunciar, con mucha sorpresa, que esta temporada se ha convertido en la favorita de esta autora, dejando así en el tan temido segundo lugar, a la historia de nuestros queridos vizcondes, Anthony y Kate Bridgerton. Es por esta razón, que se vuelve casi imposible de ignorar, que ha llegado el momento de hablar de Bridgerton Temporada 4 Parte 2, ahora sí, con muchos spoilers.

En mi reseña anterior mencione que la historia de Benedict del libro era la que menos me había gustado, por eso cuando anunciaron que la siguiente temporada sería la suya, realmente no me emocione mucho en verla, también porque la temporada anterior fue la que menos me ha gustado hasta ahora, y sentí que la serie se estaba yendo de camino a la basura. Sin embargo, cuando comencé a ver toda la promoción y los avances que nos estaban dando, me di cuenta que quizás esta vez sí se estaban tomando en serio la opinión de los fans, y de alguna forma estaba respetando la historia original, pero manteniéndose fiel a los elementos que son muy característicos de la serie como producto independiente.
Para la primera parte de esta temporada, ya tenía algo muy claro, Sophie era (como en el libro) mi protagonista femenina favorita y su temporada se estaba por convertir en mi número 1, y con esta segunda parte, ambas ideas se hicieron realidad. ¿Pero qué llevó a que esto ocurriera?, pues la respuesta es muy sencilla, el romance. Porque, aunque tenemos a un Benedict haciendo la peor propuesta jamás pensada al final de la primera parte, también tenemos una explicación de porque él pensó que eso era lo mejor que podía ofrecer, y es que, si analizamos la época, ¿realmente podía ofrecer otra cosa?
In my previous review, I mentioned that Benedict's story in the book was the one I liked the least, so when they announced that the next season would be his, I wasn't really excited to see it, also because the previous season was the one I liked the least so far, and I felt that the series was going downhill. However, when I started seeing all the promotion and previews they were giving us, I realised that maybe this time they were taking the fans' opinions seriously, and in some way respecting the original story, but staying true to the elements that are very characteristic of the series as an independent product.
By the first part of this season, one thing was already very clear to me: Sophie was (as in the book) my favourite female character, and her season was about to become my number one favourite. With this second part, both ideas came true. But what led to this happening? Well, the answer is very simple: romance. Because, although we have Benedict making the worst proposal ever thought of at the end of the first part, we also have an explanation of why he thought that was the best he could offer, and that is, if we analyse the period, could he really offer anything else?
Y aunque nos pueda molestar su propuesta, la realidad es que él al final estaba dispuesto a renunciar a todo por ella, y siendo Benedict uno de los personajes más familiares de su familia, ésta era una decisión bastante dura de tomar. Así que llevarlo por este camino, en donde él estaba convencido de hacer esto, pero todos a su alrededor, incluyendo a la misma Sophie, le hacían saber que era la peor decisión que podía tomar, a mi personalmente me encantó, porque eso hizo que su historia de amor fuese tan romántica, soñadora y épica, que compaginara a la perfección con aquello que él siempre quiso vivir.
Ejecutando esto de la forma en que lo hicieron, lograron que la transición de libertino a hombre enamorado, fuese totalmente creíble, que era también uno de los elementos que me hacían dudar de ver esta temporada. Y es que, no es fácil construir cierta narrativa alrededor de un personaje durante 3 temporadas enteras, para luego cambiarla de forma un tanto drástica. Porque creo que todos los que somos fans de esta serie sabemos que, durante todo este tiempo, el personaje de Benedict así como el de Eloise, se han sentido como un enorme “no sabemos qué hacer con ellos, dejémoslos ahí sin darles mayor cosa que hacer”.
And although his proposal may bother us, the reality is that in the end he was willing to give up everything for her, and since Benedict was one of the most familiar characters in his family, this was a very difficult decision to make. So taking him down this path, where he was convinced to do this, but everyone around him, including Sophie herself, let him know that it was the worst decision he could make, I personally loved it, because it made their love story so romantic, dreamy and epic, perfectly matching what he always wanted to experience.
By executing this the way they did, they made the transition from libertine to man in love totally believable, which was also one of the elements that made me hesitate to watch this season. It's not easy to build a certain narrative around a character for three whole seasons and then change it so drastically. I think all of us who are fans of this series know that, throughout this time, the characters of Benedict and Eloise have felt like a huge ‘we don't know what to do with them, let's just leave them there without giving them much to do’.
Así que, hay una delgada línea entre lograr encauzar su historia hacia el final que todo queremos, y hacer que parezca que el personaje se convirtió en otro, y lograr establecer un buen trabajo en el arco narrativo de dicho personaje, no es especialmente una tarea sencilla, y me parece que en esta temporada lo lograron. A esto, obviamente hay que sumarle que la construcción de Sophie como interés romántico, fue muy orgánico, sobre todo teniendo en cuenta que esta temporada tiene un “triángulo amoroso” de dos personas. ¿Y cómo es esto posible?, pues porque Sophie es la Dama Plateada, y si recordamos es esta última quien presentan al inicio como el amor de Benedict.
Que aquí, hay algunos detalles que he visto que no gustaron del todo, y que a mi particularmente se me hicieron sumamente apropiados, y es que para esta segunda parte, la Dama Plateada ya no es tan relevante, al menos no como lo era en el libro, y que justamente era de los elementos que no me gustaban del libro. Porque dentro de este material, para el momento en que Benedict le pide a Sophie ser su amante, es porque él está convencido de que encontrara a la Dama Plateada, y ella si sera digna de una propuesta de matrimonio (me acuerdo y me da rabia), pero como tampoco quiere dejar ir a Sophie, comete semejante canallada.
So, there is a fine line between steering the story towards the ending we all want and making it seem like the character has become someone else. Establishing a good narrative arc for that character is not an easy task, and I think they succeeded in doing so this season. To this, we must obviously add that the development of Sophie as a romantic interest was very organic, especially considering that this season has a ‘love triangle’ involving two people. How is this possible? Because Sophie is the Silver Lady, and if we remember, she is the one who is introduced at the beginning as Benedict's love interest.
There are some details here that I have seen that were not entirely to everyone's liking, but which I personally found extremely appropriate, and that is that in this second part, the Silver Lady is no longer as relevant, at least not as she was in the book, and that was precisely one of the elements I did not like about the book. Because in this material, when Benedict asks Sophie to be his lover, it is because he is convinced that he will find the Silver Lady, and she will be worthy of a marriage proposal (I remember and it makes me angry), but since he does not want to let Sophie go either, he commits such a despicable act.
En la serie esto es distinto, y mucho se debe a que argumentalmente, la Dama Plateada va perdiendo importancia para Benedict a medida que él conoce mejor a Sophie, por eso para cuando éste descubre que son la misma persona (una escena que me pone la piel de gallina a pesar de ser diferente a la del libro), no le da tanta importancia porque sencillamente el amor que siente por Sophie, no es una ilusión de una noche, sino la construcción de algo mucho más fuerte. Para muchos fans este es un cambio no tan agradable, pero para mi hace que ahora sí la historia sea linda, y refuerce el romance como una pieza central, algo que se había ido perdiendo un poco en las temporadas anteriores.
Desafortunadamente, a veces el romance no es algo que genere felicidad, porque mientras más grande es el amor, más grande puede ser el dolor que causa la pérdida. Esto justamente es lo que ocurre con Francesca, quien tristemente pierde a su esposo en esta segunda parte, y aunque yo sabía que eso pasaría, igualmente verlo fue doloroso, más que por la muerte de John (que al final era un personaje con el que no conecte nunca), fue por el dolor que representó para Fran perderlo, la familia que cree que perdió con su muerte, y que da apertura a lo que será su historia más adelante.
In the series, this is different, largely because, plot-wise, the Silver Lady becomes less important to Benedict as he gets to know Sophie better. So, by the time he discovers that they are the same person (a scene that gives me goosebumps, even though it's different from the book), he doesn't give it much importance because his love for Sophie is not a one-night stand, but the building of something much stronger. For many fans, this is not such a pleasant change, but for me, it makes the story beautiful and reinforces the romance as a central piece, something that had been lost a little in previous seasons.
Unfortunately, sometimes romance is not something that brings happiness, because the greater the love, the greater the pain caused by loss. This is exactly what happens to Francesca, who sadly loses her husband in this second part, and although I knew it would happen, seeing it was still painful, more than because of John's death (who in the end was a character I never connected with), it was because of the pain it represented for Fran to lose him, the family she believes she lost with his death, and which opens up what will be her story later on.
Obviamente no todo fue perfecto, siempre hay detalles que quizás no salgan tan bien como se piensan, un claro ejemplo de esto es el regreso de los vizcondes. Porque si bien es una pareja que muchos amamos, queremos que estén presentes en cada temporada, también es verdad que queremos verlos por razones concretas: son los vizcondes, es decir, ellos son la cabeza de la familia. Así que incluirlos, debe tener un propósito real, no sólo porque aparezcan y ya, y desafortunadamente así fue como se sintió, y aunque entiendo que su participación debe ser breve, porque ya no es su historia y porque quizás los actores tengan otros proyectos que atender, me parece que se debe tener claridad sobre en qué escenas aparecerán.
Anthony tiene un regreso justificado, su madre le pidió que regresara, pero si el actor va a tener poco tiempo en pantalla, entonces juega con el guión para que aproveches al máximo su participación. Porque entonces, vemos ambos personajes (Anthony y Kate), apareciendo en las escenas más random, pero no los tenemos por ejemplo, en el funeral del esposo de Francesca, un momento en donde se supone que debe estar toda la familia, más aún quienes representan la cabeza de la misma. Entonces, este mal manejo del tiempo de los actores, hace que la congruencia de la historia en general se pierda un poco.
Obviously, not everything was perfect. There are always details that may not turn out as well as expected, a clear example of this being the return of the viscounts. Because although they are a couple that many of us love, and we want them to be present in every season, it is also true that we want to see them for specific reasons: they are the viscounts, that is, they are the head of the family. So including them must have a real purpose, not just for the sake of appearing, and unfortunately that's how it felt. Although I understand that their participation must be brief, because it is no longer their story and because the actors may have other projects to attend to, I think it should be clear in which scenes they will appear.
Anthony has a justified return, his mother asked him to come back, but if the actor is going to have little screen time, then play with the script so that you make the most of his participation. Because then we see both characters (Anthony and Kate) appearing in the most random scenes, but we don't see them, for example, at Francesca's husband's funeral, a moment when the whole family is supposed to be there, especially those who represent the head of the family. So this poor management of the actors' time means that the overall consistency of the story is lost a little.
Detalles que no quiero dejar pasar por alto porque me parecen relevantes, entre ellos el desarrollo que le han dado a Eloise, o mejor dicho, el desarrollo que al fin le han dado a Eloise, y que de verdad espero no dañen para la siguiente temporada (si resulta que no es la de ella, que espero que sí), porque es algo que ya ha pasado anteriormente justamente con ella, la hacen reflexionar un poco sobre su actitud, y a la temporada siguiente la reinician, y hace, como si aquí no paso nada.
Además que este desarrollo conllevo a algo interesante, y es la incorporación de los últimos dos hermanos, que al ser los más pequeños, su participación había sido un poco escasa, pero aquí finalmente los vamos empezando a conocer y darnos cuenta que sus historias, efectivamente serán las más divertidas. Volvimos a una estética de época, ya no más extensiones de pestañas y uñas de poligel, regresamos a los valores tradicionales y eso me parece sublime, y no porque no se pueden tomar libertades creativas, algo que de hecho caracteriza la serie, pero hay un límite en dichas libertades.
Details that I don't want to overlook because I think they're relevant, including the development they've given Eloise, or rather, the development they've finally given Eloise, and I really hope they don't ruin it for next season (if it turns out not to be her season, which I hope it is), because it's something that has happened before with her: they make her reflect a little on her attitude, and then the following season they reset it and act as if nothing happened.
What's more, this development led to something interesting, which is the incorporation of the last two siblings. Being the youngest, their participation had been a bit limited, but here we finally begin to get to know them and realise that their stories will indeed be the most entertaining. We've returned to a period aesthetic, no more eyelash extensions and polygel nails, we've returned to traditional values, and I think that's sublime, not because you can't take creative liberties, something that actually characterises the series, but because there is a limit to those liberties.
