Una costumbre que me encanta del 25 de diciembre, es pasar todo el día acostada viendo películas o series, y en ésta oportunidad tomé ese día para disfrutar la reciente temporada de una de mis series favoritas y obviamente traerles mi opinión sobre ella. Emily en París es una serie sumamente ligera de ver y entretenida porque lo que tranquilamente se puede ver en un día, y en ésta ocasión tengo varias cosas que decir al respecto 😌😉.
A habit that I love on the 25th of December, is to spend the whole day lying down watching movies or series, and this time I took that day to enjoy the recent season of one of my favourite series and obviously bring you my opinion about it. Emily in Paris is an extremely light series to watch and entertaining because you can easily watch it in a day, and this time I have several things to say about it 😌😉.
Protagonizada por Lily Collins en el papel de Emily, está serie de televisión estadounidense fue producida por Darren Star y fue estrenada el 2 de Octubre del 2020 en Netflix. Aunque la misma fue bien recibida por el público estadounidenses, también fue fuertemente criticada por el público francés, ya que se le acusaba de crear una imagen estereotipada de los parisinos, la serie actualmente cuenta con tres temporada, la última siendo estrenada el pasado 21 de Diciembre del año en curso, y también cuenta con la renovación para una cuarta temporada. La trama básicamente gira en torno a Emily Cooper, una joven estadounidense que por motivos de trabajo debe mudarse a París, para trabajar como corresponsal de Estados Unidos en una prestigiosa empresa de marketing francesa, a partir de su llegada un montón de cosas comienzan a cambiar en su vida, empezando por los diferentes choques culturales a los que está sometida, además su carrera, sus nuevas amistades y su vida amorosa, amenazan constantemente su estabilidad.
Starring Lily Collins as Emily, this American TV series was produced by Darren Star and premiered on October 2, 2020 on Netflix. Although it was well received by American audiences, it was also strongly criticised by French audiences, as it was accused of creating a stereotypical image of Parisians, the series currently has three seasons, the last one being released on 21 December this year, and it has also been renewed for a fourth season. The plot basically revolves around Emily Cooper, a young American woman who for work reasons must move to Paris to work as a US correspondent for a prestigious French marketing company. Upon her arrival, a lot of things begin to change in her life, starting with the different cultural clashes she is subjected to, as well as her career, her new friendships and her love life, which constantly threaten her stability.
La tercera temporada arranca justo donde quedó la segunda, todo el equipo de trabajo francés de la empresa de marketing para la cual trabajaba Emily se ha ido, ya que su cabecera Sylvie (Philippine Leroy Beaulieu) ha decidido renunciar al no dejarse someter por las presiones de la encargada estadounidense que acaba de llegar, y con ésta decisión Emily se encuentra en una encrucijada, por un lado quiere continuar con sus compañeros franceses los cuales han decidido abrir una nueva firma, pero por el otro lado quiere ser fiel a su jefa Madeline (Kate Walsh) quien además de ser su compatriota, es alguien a quien considera una mentora. Evidentemente Emily toma la decisión conveniente para toda historia de comedia y drama, y es trabajar en ambos lugares, y tal cual como todos sabemos esto acaba mal, si bien logra conservar su empleo con sus jefes estadounidenses, ésta felicidad no dura demasiado.
The third season picks up right where the second season left off, the entire French team of the marketing company Emily worked for has left, as their head Sylvie (Philippine Leroy Beaulieu) has decided to quit because she won't bow to the pressures of the new American manager who has just arrived, Emily finds herself at a crossroads, on the one hand she wants to continue with her French colleagues who have decided to open a new firm, but on the other hand she wants to remain loyal to her boss Madeline (Kate Walsh) who is not only her compatriot, but also someone she considers a mentor. Evidently Emily makes the convenient choice for any comedy-drama story, and that is to work in both places, and as we all know it ends badly, although she manages to keep her job with her American bosses, this happiness doesn't last long.
Sylvie logra consolidar su nueva empresa de marketing a pesar de todos los inconvenientes que se le presentan, y no solo logra esto sino que además logra recuperar su antigua oficina, luego de hacer varios juegos sucios para practicar en correr a Madeline y Emily del lugar. Y justo este aspecto resulta un tanto difícil de creer, entiendo que la serie es corta y bastante rápida en su trama, pero creo que pudieron jugar por un poco mas de tiempo éste tema de la nueva empresa y el período de desempleo de Emily, sobre todo teniendo en cuenta que ya tienen una renovación para la cuarta temporada, y aunque al final hay un pequeño giro de trama por parte de uno de los miembros del equipo de trabajo, siento que si hubiesen presionado mas con el tema de la consolidación de la empresa, éste giro así como otros habrían sido mucho mas interesantes.
Sylvie manages to consolidate her new marketing company in spite of all the inconveniences she faces, and not only does she manage to do this, but she also manages to get her old office back, after playing several dirty games to practice running Madeline and Emily out of the place. And just this aspect is a little hard to believe, I understand that the series is short and quite fast in its plot, but I think they could have played for a little longer this theme of the new company and the period of unemployment of Emily, especially considering that they already have a renewal for the fourth season, and although at the end there is a small plot twist by one of the members of the team, I feel that if they had pushed more with the theme of the consolidation of the company, this twist as well as others would have been much more interesting.
En la segunda temporada vimos el conflicto entre Camille (Camille Razat) y Emily por Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), y tal como se muestra allí esa amistad quedo bastante fracturada, al menos por parte de Camille, en ésta nueva temporada parece que eso realmente ya quedó atrás, si hay comentarios pasivos agresivos hacia Emily, pero fuera de eso no hay mayor conflicto hasta el final, cuando Camille hace la gran revelación que deja muy mal parada a Emily con Alfie, y donde ella de alguna forma queda como la víctima (aunque en ésta temporada no fue así). Toda ésta escena de alguna forma se sintió algo forzada la verdad, siento que fue una forma un tanto apresudara de resolver el tema de Gabriel y Camille y de separar a Emily de Alfie (Lucien Laviscount), con quien además estaba teniendo una muy bonita relación, honestamente creo que llevaron la trama de Gabriel y Camille a un punto demasiado alto y sintieron que la única manera de resolverlo era de ésta forma, se hecho todo el capítulo final fue bastante apresurado.
In the second season we saw the conflict between Camille (Camille Razat) and Emily over Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), and as shown there that friendship was pretty fractured, at least on Camille's part, in this new season it seems that that is really behind us, there are passive aggressive comments towards Emily, but other than that there is no major conflict until the end, when Camille makes the big revelation that leaves Emily in a bad light with Alfie, and where she somehow becomes the victim (although in this season it wasn't like that). This whole scene felt a bit forced in a way, I feel it was a bit of a rushed way to resolve Gabriel and Camille and to separate Emily from Alfie (Lucien Laviscount), with whom she was having a very nice relationship, honestly I think they took Gabriel and Camille's plot too high and felt that the only way to resolve it was this way, in fact the whole final chapter was quite rushed.
La pareja de Emily y Gabriel me la he cuestionado a lo largo de la serie, y en ésta temporada yo siento que no tuvieron tanta química como anteriormente, lo cual creo que al final me gustó, de hecho hay una escena en un carro donde Gabriel le dice algo a Emily estando borracho que sinceramente me hizo querer mas a Alfie, a pesar de que todo indica que Emily y Gabriel de alguna forma quedarán como pareja al final, creo que me seguiré cuestionando si me gusta o no ésta decisión 🤷🏻♀️. Finalmente un detalle que no se me puede pasar es el vestuario de Emily, originalmente los outfits de éste personaje estan pensados para reflejar su condición de extranjera, es decir, mostrar a través de la ropa ésta incompatibilidad que hay de ella queriendo encajar en éste país, y éste concepto pegó muchísimo en la primera temporada, fue una decisión creativa bastante acertada, sin embargo cuando ya tienes tres temporadas y a un personaje que poco a poco está evolucionando en su nueva vida, esperar que éste concepto creativo se vaya adecuando a los sucesos, de ésta forma ir logrando a través de lo visual que el espectador capte ésta transición del personaje, éste paso de ua extranjera que intenta encajar, a alguien que ya va formando parte de, no obstante esto no es lo que se está logrando y vemos a Emily cada vez con looks mas extravagantes e inadecuados 🤷🏻♀️.
The couple of Emily and Gabriel I have questioned throughout the series, and in this season I feel that they did not have as much chemistry as before, which I think in the end I liked, in fact there is a scene in a car where Gabriel says something to Emily while drunk that honestly made me love Alfie more, although everything indicates that Emily and Gabriel somehow will remain as a couple in the end, I think I will continue questioning whether or not I like this decision 🤷🏻♀️. Finally a detail that I can't miss is Emily's wardrobe, originally the outfits of this character are thought to reflect her condition of foreigner, that is to say, to show through the clothes this incompatibility that there is of her wanting to fit in this country, and this concept hit a lot in the first season, it was a very good creative decision, however when you already have three seasons and a character that little by little is evolving in her new life, However, when you already have three seasons and a character who is gradually evolving in her new life, you expect this creative concept to adapt to the events, and in this way to achieve through the visuals that the viewer captures this transition of the character, this step from a foreigner trying to fit in, to someone who is already part of, however this is not what is being achieved and we see Emily increasingly with more extravagant and inappropriate looks 🤷🏻♀️.
