Ben-Hur was directed by William Wyler. Starring Charlton Heston, it is one of Hollywood's most iconic films, which tells a story of revenge, redemption and faith, and still resonates today .
The film won 11 Oscar awards: Best Director, Best Picture and Best Actor. Later, it was tied by Titanic and The Lord of the Rings (The Return of the King).
One of the most exciting scenes was the chariot race as they used real horses and hundreds of extras with huge sets, it was the most expensive film at that time, costing $15 million, but earned over $36 million in the US in 2004.
Ben-Hur is remembered as a classic example of epic filmmaking and storytelling, and the film was added to the National Film Registry for being historically important.
