¡Hola amigos del cine! Como algunos saben, la mayor parte de mi tiempo libre la paso viendo series y películas por lo que he decidido hablar sobre este tema. No estaba segura de con que comenzar, así que decidí empezar por una de mis series favoritas y la que yo considero que es de las mejores del siglo XXI. Me causa mucha emoción hablar de ella, tenía muchas ganas de compartir mi punto de vista y estoy hablando de la serie estadounidense Breaking Bad, muchos ya la han visto y esta más que una reseña es mi opinión personal.
Hello friends of cinema! As some of you know, I spend most of my free time watching series and movies so I decided to talk about this topic. I wasn't sure what to start with, so I decided to start with one of my favorite series and what I consider to be one of the best of the 21st century. I am very excited to talk about it, I really wanted to share my point of view and I am talking about the American series Braking Bad, many have already seen it and this more than a review is my personal opinion.
Esta obra maestra fue creada por Vince Gilligan y emitida por primera vez en 2008, al día de hoy cuenta con 5 temporadas. Protagonizada por Bryan Cranston al que todos recordamos por ser el papá de Malcolm en "Malcolm In the Middle". A groso modo la serie trata sobre Walter White, un profesor de química de secundaria, de clase media baja al cual le diagnostican cáncer de pulmón. Este al ver que no le queda mucho tiempo de vida decide junto a Jesse Pinkman, un antiguo alumno y a espaldas de su familia utilizar sus conocimientos de química para cocinar y vender anfetaminas entrando en el turbulento mundo del narcotráfico.
This masterpiece was created by Vince Gilligan and first aired in 2008, today it has 5 seasons. Starring Bryan Cranston who we all remember for being Malcolm's dad in "Malcolm In the Middle". The series is about Walter White, a lower middle class high school chemistry teacher who is diagnosed with lung cancer. Seeing that he does not have much time left to live, he decides together with Jesse Pinkman, a former student, and behind his family's back, to use his knowledge of chemistry to cook and sell amphetamines, entering the turbulent world of drug trafficking.
En muchos sentidos esta es una serie acerca de procesos y no hablo del proceso químico de la creación de las anfetaminas, sino a un nivel más general nos cuenta el proceso de conversión de un hombre de familia que no mataría ni una mosca en un mafioso que no titubearía un momento en hacer lo que tenga que hacer para conseguir lo que quiere. De ahí viene el nombre "Breaking Bad", la traducción que considero bastante acertada sería corrompiéndose. Como es de esperarse la serie tiene partes de acción y hasta suspenso, aunque se enfocan en llegar al público, transmitir el miedo de sus personajes, la desesperación, las decisiones difíciles que toman por motivos que creen correctos, lo delicioso que sabe el poder y lo adictivo que es.
In many ways this is a series about process, and I'm not talking about the chemical process of creating amphetamines, but on a more general level it tells us about the process of converting a family man who wouldn't kill a fly into a mobster who wouldn't hesitate for a moment to do whatever he has to do to get what he wants. That's where the name "Breaking Bad" comes from, the translation which I consider quite accurate would be corrupting himself. As expected, the series has parts of action and even suspense, although they focus on reaching the audience, transmitting the fear of its characters, the desperation, the difficult decisions they make for reasons they believe are right, how delicious power tastes and how addictive it is.
Una cosa remarcable es el reparto del director. Los actores tienen mucha química en pantalla, se siente casi como si hubieran nacido para interpretar estos personajes. Aunque el guión no se queda atrás; la serie está escrita de tal forma que la trama se resuelve de manera orgánica. Los conflictos se van construyendo poco a poco como un castillo de naipes hasta que llega su resolución volándonos la cabeza, pero si lo piensas un poco te das cuenta de que era la forma más lógica para los personajes de salir de dicha situación. Muchas veces viendo la serie pensaba que hubiera sido mejor si hubiera pasado esto o aquello pero vuelvo a pensar y es que la vida no se resuelve de manera ideal y es lo que me encanta de la serie, el realismo con el que está hecho.
One remarkable thing is the director's casting. The actors have so much chemistry on screen, it almost feels like they were born to play these characters. The script is no slouch though; the series is written in such a way that the plot resolves organically. The conflicts build up little by little like a house of cards until their resolution blows our minds, but if you think about it a bit you realize that it was the most logical way for the characters to get out of the situation. Many times watching the series I thought that it would have been better if this or that had happened, but I think again that life is not resolved in an ideal way and this is what I love about the series, the realism with which it is made.
Fuera de los convencionalismos del cine gangsters, Gilligan hace una deconstrucción del género dónde no se romantiza el dinero, las armas o las drogas. Nos da un visión tridimensional de cada personaje haciendo que muchas veces nosotros, los espectadores, tomemos un rol en la propia historia y nos cuestionemos cosas como quien es el bueno y quién es el malo, a que personajes estamos apoyando y si de verdad las cosas que hace el protagonista están justificadas por ayudar a su familia, y si es así ¿Hasta que punto se puede llegar?
Outside the conventions of gangster cinema, Gilligan makes a deconstruction of the genre where money, guns or drugs are not romanticized. He gives us a three-dimensional view of each character, making us, the viewers, take a role in the story itself and question things like who is the good guy and who is the bad guy, which characters are we supporting and if the things the main character does are really justified to help his family, and if so, how far can they go?
La serie ha sido ha sido nominada y ganadora de numerosos premios. Está considerada por muchos como la mejor serie de televisión de la historia. Si aún no la has visto te la recomiendo fervientemente y espero que con este post hayas encontrado la motivación necesaria para que la veas.
The series has been nominated for and won numerous awards. It is considered by many to be the best television series in history. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend it and I hope that with this post you have found the necessary motivation to watch it.
