When I think about dark movies, I always think about this one. I know that maybe it hasn't aged that well as a horror movie because the special effects are outdated but at the time it was very scary for me.
Poltergeist is one of the most important horror films of all time! It started a trend of films about a family trapped in a haunted house. This is a 1982 supernatural horror film directed by Tobe Hooper and both written and produced by Steven Spielberg. There are many rumors that this film was also directed by Spielberg who was under a contract that prevented to work on multiple movies at the time, and even if it wasn't, there is a lot of Spielberg in this film, it feels like one.
Poltergeist is about a typical American family. One day in their house strange things start happening, objects move around and this amuses the family, however, as time goes on, these phenomenon becomes increasingly more dangerous until it endangers the lives of the children. The little daughter gets captured by a mysterious force and the family desperately tries to save her by all means necessary.
This movie has a great script that makes all the characters very likable, it also has amazing child actors who make us feel that everything that is happening is real.
Poltergeist didn't let me sleep the first time I watched it, it all seemed very real to me, I had never seen anything like it. This film has many iconic scenes that are very original and made me scream in fear when I watched it for the first time.
The family is full of great characters, I think that the way they are written makes us root for them, they all have nice personalities. This is something that feels very Spielberg along the amazing child actors!
Poltergeist is a film that is very fun and engaging, it has a great script. I think there is a charm to the outdated special effects. This movie was my nightmare for a long while.
The tragedies surrounding this movie have also made it so scary, as this is considered a cursed film. The child actress did not have the chance to grow up due to a bowel obstruction, the teenage daughter had a horrible destiny as her boyfriend strangled her to death.
I love many scenes from this film, but my favorite one is the scene with the skeletons. They used real human skeletons because they were cheaper, and this also created more fuel for the cursed movie rumors.
There is a point where you think the film has ended but it goes on... This gives us one of the best sequences of the whole movie, I love it!
This is a great movie that I think you should watch. It may not be as scary, but it sure can be fun! It gave me a lot of nightmares
