Hello friends! I think this is my first time uploading content in this community and well, I would like to start talking about one of my favourite characters from my favourite tv show, this is none other than Carol Peletier from The Walking Dead, whose shocking evolution within the show has taken her from being a scary and submissive housewife, to a great leader, strategist and even a mercenary.
¡Hola amigos! Creo que ésta es mi primera vez subiendo contenido en esta comunidad y pues, me gustaría iniciar hablando de uno de mis personajes favoritos de mi serie favorita, se trata de nada más y nada menos que de Carol Peletier de The Walking Dead, cuya impactante evolución dentro de la serie la ha llevado de ser una asustadiza y sumisa ama de casa, a una gran líder, estratega y hasta mercenaria.

I think it's important to clarify first of all that The Walking Dead is a tv show based on a comic book written by Robert Kirkman who is also involved in the scripts of the show.
Creo que es importante aclarar ante todo que The Walking Dead es una serie basada en un comic escrito por Robert Kirkman quien también se involucra en los guiones de la serie televisiva.
But as I said, I decided to concentrate my analysis on a single character, Carol Peletier. In the comic (as good as its TV counterpart) we can see a very different Carol, without any evolution, in fact I think she did the opposite, that is, she involuted until she became an absurd character, with nothing to contribute and to top it all she ends up immolating herself, giving herself to the mercy of the walkers (zombies) and the worst of all is that she did it in front of her daughter (as if she had not had enough traumas already).
Pero como les dije, decidí concentrar mi análisis en un solo personaje, Carol Peletier. En el comic (tan bueno como su homónimo de la tv) podemos ver a una Carol muy diferente, sin evolución alguna, de hecho creo que hizo todo lo contrario, es decir, involucionó hasta convertirse en un personaje absurdo, sin nada que aportar y que para colmo termina inmolándose, entregándose a merced de los caminantes (zombies) y lo peor de todo es que lo hizo frente a su hija (como si ya no hubiese tenido suficientes traumas)
But in the show we see a different process. Carol certainly starts out as a submissive, frightened and completely dependent on the decisions of her husband Ed, who is a selfish, controlling and even degenerate man who abuses his own daughter, Sophia. Carol is too afraid of her husband and never questions him so as not to confront him, she hates him, but her fear is greater than her hatred, so she just resigns herself and this situation doesn't change even when the world (as we know it) degenerates and is almost completely dominated by the walkers (zombies).
Pero en la serie vemos un proceso diferente. Carol ciertamente inicia como una mujer sumisa, asustadiza y completamente dependiente de las decisiones de su marido Ed, quien es un hombre egoísta, controlador y hasta un degenerado que abusa de su propia hija, Sophia. Carol le teme demasiado a su marido y nunca lo cuestiona para no enfrentarlo, lo odia, pero su temor es más grande que el odio, así que solo se resigna y esta situación no cambia ni siquiera cuando el mundo (tal y como lo conocemos) se degenera y queda casi al total dominio de los caminantes (zombies)
Later the camp is invaded by a horde of walkers and one of the first to be attacked is the evil Ed, so Carol is free of him but not of her fears, she is still a submissive woman, moulded under the blows of her husband, although she is also tender and maternal, she never separates from her daughter, Sophia and she also sometimes takes care of Carl, the other child of the camp and son of Rick Grimes (one of the main characters).
Posteriormente el campamento es invadido por una horda de caminantes y uno de los primeros en ser atacados es el malvado Ed, por lo tanto Carol se ve libre de él pero no de sus miedos, sigue siendo una mujer sumisa, moldeada bajo los golpes de su marido, aunque también es tierna y maternal, nunca se separa de su hija, Sophia y además también se encarga en ocasiones de Carl, el otro niño del campamento e hijo de Rick Grimes (Uno de los protagonistas)
But during one of the survivors' journeys, while on their way to Fort Beningg, they encounter a large horde of walkers and so they all take refuge under cars, unfortunately due to the speed with which they all had to react, Sophia had to hide alone, away from her mother under one of the cars, but unfortunately she is discovered by one of the walkers and she flees into the forest while being chased by two of the undead.
Pero durante uno de los viajes de los sobrevivientes, mientras se dirigen a Fort Beningg, se encuentran con una gran horda de caminantes y entonces todos se refugian debajo de los autos, lamentablemente debido a la rapidez con la cual todos debieron reaccionar, Sophia debió esconderse sola, apartada de su madre bajo uno de los autos, pero lamentablemente es descubierta por uno de los caminantes y ella huye hacia el bosque mientras es perseguida por dos de los muertos vivientes.
Carol tries to go after her daughter to protect her, but Lori stops her as it would draw the attention of the horde and things would get worse, however Rick who were closer go after the girl and get her, but lose her again as he face the walkers. Sophia is nowhere to be seen, no one knows where she is, but they have to get out of there. Carol, resigned, leaves with the group but leaves some supplies for her daughter and a message that she should stay there, as they will return each day.
Carol intenta ir detrás de su hija para protegerla, pero Lori se lo impide ya que llamaría la atención de la horda y las cosas se pondrían peores, sin embargo Rick que estaba más cerca va tras la niña y la consigue, pero la pierde de nuevo mientras se enfrenta a los caminantes. Sophia no aparece por ninguna parte, nadie sabe donde está, pero tienen que irse de allí. Carol, resignada, se va con el grupo pero deja algunos suministros para su hija y un mensaje que dice que debe quedarse allí, ya que ellos regresarán cada día.
The days passed and there was no sign of Sophia, so the group of survivors continue the advance and arrive at a farm owned by the Greene family, but Carol is not resigned to lose her daughter, so Daryl helps her to look for her, then they discover that the family of the farm has been accumulating walkers in the barn, They don't think they are dead, but sick, so Shane (one of the survivors) decides to open the barn and kill all the walkers, but at that moment Carol's whole world collapsed when she discovered that her little daughter was among the group of walkers as one of them.
Los días pasaron y no había ni rastros de Sophia, así que el grupo de sobrevivientes continúa el avance y llegan a una granja propiedad de la familia Greene, pero Carol no se resigna a perder a su hija, así que Daryl la ayuda a buscarla, luego descubren que la familia de la granja ha estado acumulando caminantes en el granero, ya que ellos no creen que estén muertos, sino enfermos, entonces Shane (uno de los sobrevivientes) decide abrir el granero y matar a todos los caminantes, pero en ese momento todo el mundo de Carol se derrumbó al descubrir que su pequeña hija estaba entre el grupo de caminantes como una de ellos.
At that moment something broke inside Carol, but despite her pain, she didn't interpret her experience as meaning that since she no longer had her daughter to fight for, she should let herself fall and die too, but on the contrary, since she no longer had anything to lose, she became braver, bolder and simply let the woman she always wanted to be emerge: decisive and even unscrupulous when it came to defending her group. The death of her daughter was like a shudder that woke her up from the lethargy in which she was immersed.
En ese momento algo se quebró dentro de Carol pero a pesar de su dolor, ella no interpretó su experiencia como que al ya no tener a su hija por quien luchar, debía dejarse caer y morir también, sino todo lo contrario, al ya no tener nada que perder, se volvió más valiente, osada y simplemente dejó emerger a la mujer que siempre quiso ser: determinante e incluso sin escrúpulos cuando se trataba de defender a su grupo. La muerte de su hija fue como un estremecimiento que la hizo despertar del letargo en el que estaba sumida.
One of the nicknames we fans usually give her is "The Fire Lady" because during some seasons she used this element as a very effective weapon against her enemies. I will never forget the episode in which she single-handedly rescued her friends who were kidnapped by cannibals in an old train station, to do so she shot a gas pump and then caused an explosion with the help of a firework, then she blended in with the walkers as she had smeared her clothes with the blood of one of them and in this way she was not attacked. This is how she managed to enter the place and help her friends.
Uno de los apodos que los fans solemos darle a ella es «La dama de fuego» ya que durante algunas temporadas ella usó este elemento como un arma muy efectiva contra sus enemigos. Jamás olvidaré el episodio en el que ella sola rescató a sus amigos que estaban secuestrados por canívales en una antigua estación de trenes, para lograrlo perforo de un disparo un surtidor de gas y posteriormente provocó una explosión con ayuda de un cohete, luego se mezcló entre los caminantes ya que se había untado la ropa con sangre de uno de ellos y de esta forma no era atacada. Fue así como logró entrar al lugar y ayudar a sus amigos.
But what I like most about this character is that she often acts low profile, at first glance she gives the impression of remaining a humble and harmless housewife who enjoys baking biscuits, with the help of this infallible strategy she has succeeded in all her missions. I will also never forget an episode in which she found herself surrounded by a group of thugs, she simply raised her arms, apparently "surrendered", revealing (on purpose) a rosary dangling from her hand, then slowly lowers her arms as she realises that they had only considered her a self-righteous rather than a threat, and just then she takes out several of them with a machine gun she had hidden in one of her sleeves.
Pero lo que más me gusta de este personaje, es que a menudo actúa bajo perfil, a primera vista ella da la impresión de seguir siendo una humilde e inofensiva ama de casa que disfruta de hornear galletas, con ayuda de esta infalible estrategia ella ha conseguido el éxito en todas sus misiones. Tampoco olvidaré un episodio en el que ella se encontró rodeada por un grupo de matones, ella simplemente alzó los brazos, aparentemente «rendida», dejando ver (a propósito) un rosario que colgaba de su mano, luego baja los brazos con lentitud al ver que ellos solo la habían considerado una santurrona en lugar de una amenaza, y justo en ese momento elimina a varios de ellos con una ametralladora que tenía escondida en una de sus mangas.
For all these reasons I think Carol Peletier is one of the best characters of this TV show, she has been the one who, without a doubt, has evolved the most, earning her own place and contributing a lot to the plot. But we must not leave aside the extraordinary actress behind the character, as Melissa McBride has done a great job with her interpretation, making us feel empathy with her as she has a great facility to convey the emotions of her character.
Por todas estas razones creo que Carol Peletier es uno de los mejores personajes de esta serie de televisión, ha sido el que, sin lugar a dudas ha evolucionado más, ganándose su propio lugar y aportando muchísimo a la trama. Pero no debemos dejar de lado a la extraordinaria actriz detrás del personaje, ya que Melissa McBride ha hecho un estupendo trabajo con su interpretación, logrando que sintamos empatía con ella ya que tiene una gran facilidad para transmitir las emociones de su personaje.
