It is about a recently engaged American couple who travel to Paris on vacation, on that trip (in the company of the protagonist's in-laws), the abysmal differences between the lovers come to light, both in their daily tastes and future plans. One night of Gil's night walk, our protagonist, without the company of his girlfriend Inez, gets lost on his way back to the hotel and just at midnight when he is in a small street and trying to find his way, he is approached by an old car, and one of its occupants invites him to join them for a party.

In the car everyone present is dressed in typical clothes of the 20's and 30's, and they go to a party with the same dress code, the music they play is jazz and swing, and Gil, who is an insecure writer, at first thinks everyone is in disguise, only to realize that his fellow revelers are actually the writers Zelda and Scott Fitzgerald.
As the night goes by and strolling through various places in the city that had also been fascinatingly adapted to the Paris of the 20's, he continues to meet important people of that era such as Josephine Baker and Ernest Hemingway for example.

Gil wanted to share that experience with his girlfriend the next day but she didn't believe him, so he went to the same place as the previous night before 12:00 a.m., and just at the right time the fantastic car reappeared, which in reality was like a time machine.
Gil made this trip alone for several nights, and each time he met more and more famous personalities, painters like Dali and Picasso, musicians like Cole Porter, film directors like Luis Buñuel, and Picasso's intermittent lover, Adriana, a beautiful lady with whom Gil fell in love and she with him.

As the days go by, the nocturnal plot of these two lives, between the reality of 2011 in the day and the nights of Paris in 1920, make Gil's life more and more confusing. Gil, in love with the beautiful Adriana one night, takes her for a ride in a horse-drawn carriage, which takes them to the Paris of 1890 of the Belle Epoque, the era in which she wanted to live, and decides not to return to 1920, so the relationship ends with this break in time for the second time in the plot of the film. Finally this situation becomes very difficult for Gil and his contemporary relationship, so he ends up breaking the engagement with his girlfriend Inez and stay to live in Paris in 2011 under the rain.
For me the way this movie makes those time travels vividly describing characters that marked an era, of which I also confess to be a fan, beautifully photographed and set, and with great performances by Owen Wilson, Marion Cotilliard, Rachel McAdams among others, make this my favorite film of that period of Woody Allen.
If you want to take a walk through a movie from a decade ago, I recommend this one!
