I have always and forever loved stories or films framed in the genre of fantasy and magic. Mythical beings and magical environments, where fantasy becomes a reality, at least during the time we are immersed in the screen watching the production.

That is what cinema and television are for. To immerse oneself in them and isolate oneself for that moment, far from everyday life and all that it brings with it. It's a time of relaxation and joy, fun and everything that can give you comfort in that instant.

Surfing these days on Netflix (my favorite platform), I found among the trends, a title that caught my attention, and in the brief synopsis that brings, I decided to watch it, because the movies have less time investment, since they are only two hours at most in terms of duration. This makes it easier to choose based on the free time we may have for this entertainment.

Desde siempre y por siempre, me han encantado las historias o filmes enmarcados desde el género de la fantasía y la magia. Seres míticos y ambientes mágicos, dónde la fantasía se hace una realidad, al menos durante el tiempo que estemos sumergidos en la pantalla viendo la producción.

Para eso son el cine y la televisión. Para sumergirse en ellos y aislarse durante ese momento, lejos de la cotidianidad y todo lo que ella trae consigo. Es un rato de esparcimiento y de alegría, diversión y todo lo que pueda darte confort en ese instante.

Navegando en estos días por Netflix (mi plataforma favorita), me encontré entre las tendencias, un título que llamó mi atención y en la breve sinopsis que trae, decidí verla, pues, las películas tienen menos inversión de tiempo, ya que son solamente dos horas a lo máximo en cuanto a su duración. Esto facilita la escogencia con base en el tiempo libre que podamos tener para este esparcimiento.

It is about Damsel. A story set in the fantasy of medieval times and in this case, the existence of magical and mythical beings such as dragons. But beyond the mere common story of dragons, kingdoms princes, and princesses, it is about the existence of truth and lies, even in ancient times and fantasy, as shown in this film.

It is a film from 2024, of American production, which was filmed mostly on location in Portugal. I found the setting to be very good and quite realistic, showing very beautiful natural scenery.

Damsel is not the typical love story of the prince who rescues the princess from a great danger (in this case, a dragon). No, it is the protagonist's rescue of herself, submerged in a situation that she neither asked for nor corresponded to her, and to which she was led under a dreadful deception, plotted by a royalty that did not mind blinding innocent lives, to maintain its existence, in front of a powerful creature and wounded by a betrayal.

Se trata de Damsel. Una historia ambientada en la fantasía del tiempo medieval y en este caso, de la existencia de seres mágicos y míticos como lo son los dragones. Pero más allá de la mera historia común de dragones, reinos y príncipes y también princesas, se trata de la existencia de la verdad y la mentira, aun en tiempos antiguos y de fantasía, como los que muestra este film.

Es una película de 2024, de producción estadounidense, que fue filmada en su mayoría, en escenarios en Portugal. La ambientación me pareció muy buena y bastante realista, mostrando escenarios naturales muy bonitos.

Damsel no es la típica historia de amor del príncipe que rescata a la princesa de un gran peligro (en este caso, un dragón). No, es el rescate de sí misma de la protagonista, sumergida en una situación que no pidió ni le correspondía, y a la cual fue llevada bajo un engaño espantoso, tramado por una realeza a la que no le importaba cegar vidas inocentes, para mantener su existencia, frente a una criatura poderosa y herida por una traición.

It is about the integrity of the human being in terms of lying, to deceive someone innocent, and to sacrifice him without having the guilt of a whole plot that was woven for years and in which that innocent being, had nothing to do, much less, have any responsibility. Damsel is the story of Elodie (played by actress Millie Bobby Brown from Stranger Things and Enola Holmes), who, in my opinion, performs an excellent role in this character.

Beyond being physically beautiful, the character demonstrates a unique determination, which helps her survive in the face of a situation where she has every chance of dying.

She demonstrates the inner strength that we often have and do not know about, and that helps us to face complicated situations, which can try to break us and bring us down at some point in our lives. I loved her interpretation and her strength to survive beyond the terrible circumstances to which she was subjected being innocent and oblivious to it.

Se trata de la integridad del ser humano en cuanto a mentir, para engañar a alguien inocente, y sacrificarlo sin tener la culpa de toda una trama que se tejió por años y en la cual ese ser inocente, nada tenía que ver ni mucho menos, tener responsabilidad alguna. Damsel es la historia de Elodie (interpretada por la actriz Millie Bobby Brown de Stranger Things y Enola Holmes), quien, a mi juicio, realiza un excelente papel en este personaje.

Más allá de ser hermosa físicamente, el personaje demuestra una determinación única, que la ayuda a sobrevivir frente a una situación en la que tenía todas las posibilidades de morir.

Demuestra la fortaleza interior que muchas veces tenemos y desconocemos, y que nos ayuda a hacer frente a situaciones realmente complicadas, que pueden intentar quebrarnos y derrumbarnos en algún momento de nuestras vidas. Me encantó su interpretación y su fuerza para sobrevivir más allá de las terribles circunstancias a las que la sometieron siendo inocente y ajena a ello.

Elodie faces a terrible situation against a magical creature that also, in my opinion, and immersing myself in the fantasy nature of the film, is also a victim of those humans who always seek to destroy without thinking and then want to solve the consequences, with the sacrifice of other innocent victims.

Very good effects, especially the dragon. I loved that she was a dragon (mother) and that she spoke to Elodie. Both establish a dialogue that leads them in the end to understand each other and to ally themselves for being victims, beyond the thrill of Elodie's initial struggle to survive what seems practically impossible. Moments of emotion take place in this time-lapse.

This is not a story of love, of love between princes and princesses, no. It is a story of resilience and fortitude. It is one of resilience and strength, and also of reflection on the very lying nature of some human beings. Among the cast, I liked the performance of Angela Bassett, as Elodie's stepmother, who shows her love for family, beyond blood ties or not.

Elodie hace frente a una situación terrible frente a una criatura mágica que también, a mi juicio y sumergiéndome en la naturaleza fantasiosa del film, también es una víctima de aquellos humanos que siempre buscan destruir sin pensar y que luego, quieren resolver las consecuencias, con el sacrificio de otras víctimas inocentes.

Muy buenos efectos, sobre todo los del dragón. Me encantó que era una dragona (madre) y que le hablaba a Elodie. Ambas establecen un diálogo que las lleva al final a comprenderse y a aliarse por ser víctimas, más allá de lo emocionante de la lucha inicial de Elodie por sobrevivir a lo que parece prácticamente imposible. Momentos de emoción transcurren en este lapso de tiempo.

Esta no es una historia de amor, de amor entre príncipes y princesas, no. Lo es de resiliencia y fortaleza, y también de reflexión por encima de la naturaleza muy mentirosa de algunos seres humanos. Entre el reparto, me gustó la actuación de Ángela Bassett, como la madrastra de Elodie, quien muestra su amor por la familia, más allá de los vínculos o no de la sangre.

By the way, something that I thought caught my attention was the name of the movie (Damsel), I thought it could be the name of the dragon and no, then I saw over there that Damsel means Damsel, the one that the common tales of princes and princesses, is the one who waits to be rescued by a prince. Not in this story. It was the damsel herself, who ended up rescuing herself from the situation in which her life was absolutely in danger, because, the role of the prince in the movie, in my opinion, left much to be desired and was quite pathetic.

This production is available on Netflix and I found it a good option to spend some time of distraction, as it is quite moving in terms of action and fantasy, in addition to the reflection that it leaves you, about the existence of truth and lies in the world. Por cierto, algo que pensé y me llamó la atención fue el nombre de la película (Damsel), pensaba que podía ser el nombre del dragón y no, luego vi por allí que Damsel significa Damisela, esa que en los cuentos comunes de príncipes y princesas, es la que espera ser rescatada por un príncipe. En esta historia no. Fue la damisela misma, quien termina rescatándose de la situación en la que peligra absolutamente su vida, pues, el papel del príncipe de la película, a mi juicio, dejó mucho que desear y fue bastante patético.

Esta producción está disponible en Netflix y me pareció una buena opción para pasar un rato de distracción, pues es bastante movida en cuanto a la acción y la fantasía, además de la reflexión que te deja, sobre la existencia de la verdad y la mentira en el mundo.
