Hello my fellow Hiveians!!
Today, I'm sharing some opinions on three movies I saw yesterday.
A quick personal note:
It was quite a special day for me, because as crazy as it sounds, I had barely seen a movie this last year. Yesterday, I saw more than the last 3 months for sure. Something I never expected to say or do.
Also, for more than a year I had no Netflix account, so I saw them all on Netflix.
So here it is the first one:
Bac Nord:
It had been on my list for a while.
Think it's very, very solid film. It based on real events, but like any movie based on real events should do: It starts with a "This is all fiction" kinda thing.
It's safe to say that in last decades (at least) there has been some crime movies that tend to show the side of the criminal. World wide movies, tend to romanticise the criminal. The few police movies there are (in comparison) usually also deal with corrupt policemen. Hence criminals as well.
So I must say, already I enjoyed this movie for showing the side of the police who are trying to fight crime.
It takes place in the south of France, an area that is quite problematic and it only gets worst. Now, it must be much worst than what's portrayed in the film.
I liked the story, the way it was done. The shots, the viceral quality it has. I liked how the characters where portrayed.
I liked that it does not shy away at all, from showing the politics involved in the security forces. Nor on what the people need to deal with when doing this job. Even a "go and earn 1000€" is said in the film.
Very interesting, engaging and well done. Great acting as well by the way.
The only thing I didn't love was the ending. It seems a bit "rushed" or inconclusive in a way. Don't know if they just wanted to keep it very close to the real story?... Not saying it's bad at all. Just that it seems on another level then the rest fo the film. If I could change a tiny bit, would be t add more time at end.
Also, there has been a controversy around this... And now after seeing it, I can say the controversy is completely off the mark. "It's makes you want to vote right"...
The fact that this film has this controversy, is a sign of the times. While it deals with the police and the mayor... it's completely outside of the left, right paradigm. Makes me wonder...
I care a lot
Just before writing this, I see that the reaction is not super lovely to this film. Well... I think it was great. Rosamund does it again!!
First off, it's one of those examples, for when people say: All movies are bad now and only marvel and bla bla bla...
Here is an original (in the sense that it's not from a franchise) movie with some soul to it. So as far as Hollywood is concern, they are making them as well.
I'm happy I knew, nothing at all about it, before watching it. Guess the good news for not being able go to the theatre, is that I see no trailers at all. (Desperately trying to find a positive angle here)
I'm just a big fan of Rosamund Pike, not only of her talent but of the choices she makes. Think it's always good films and many times, they tend to always have serious look/ things to say about society. And not in a fashionable, one sided way...
In short, it reminded me of one of those 90's American film. Kinda crime, kinda funny, a bit of Cohen brothers... but with a strong look at society.
I think it develops very well, and since I knew nothing I was able to enjoy it the most.
Great acting all around. One of the cast was also great, but I think it did draw too much attention to it. But great.
The character and world intro right at the beginning, is great. And it deals with the "health industry" and how people can become prisoners due to government outreach... interesting....
Hypnotic:
This one it was late... so I gave it a try.
Not spectacular... I had seen the trailer and kinda liked it. I liked the actress in that hunted show. And I have been very heavily into hypnotises.
It's not the worst either. but it does fell like a TV movie. Within that category, is not the worst... the story moves and so on...
Have you seen any of them?
As always, thank you for reading.

The posters are form the marketing campagins for the movies..
