I think all of us who find ourselves in the tireless search for innovative content live the constant disappointment of wasting time watching generic series and movies, every day any number of film and television material is broadcasted or released and the number seems to be growing over the years. In that sense, it is impossible to have time to cover even a small percentage of the content available in streaming or on television, so it is imperative to be efficient in choosing what we will watch, and well, it is something that is said to be easy, but it is a bet that we will probably lose.
So, as you read in the title of the post, I'm basically recommending that you go watch Severance, a series released in 2022 through Apple TV+ that has two seasons (the second season is currently airing) and has caused quite an interesting stir in those of us who are dedicated to watching series and movies. This series is directed by Dan Erickson, Ben Stiller and Aoife McArdle who share the role and stars Adam Scott, Britt Lower, John Turturro, Zach Cherry, among other interesting actors who give life to this weird universe.
The series takes us to what seems to be an ordinary American town, snow is present most of the year and in that sense is a natural part of the environment and scenery. In this town is the headquarters of an enigmatic company called Lumon, I'm still not clear what this company is dedicated to, but initially seems to be dedicated to biotechnology or something like that. This company has the peculiarity that applies a procedure called cercenadura in their employees which is to block or limit the memory when the worker is at work, which generates that when you leave the company can not remember anything he did.
This is how employees come to have a kind of double life, because when they are at home they do not know or do not remember anything they did at work and when they are at work they know absolutely nothing of their lives outside, they do not know if they have children, families, etc. The work they do in this company is quite strange, in fact, I would say that it is experimental and precisely that is what comes to my mind taking into account the need to separate the minds of the employees from who they are on the outside, perhaps this allows them to be more manipulable or have more work potential, but at the moment that is not clear.
The truth is that, as expected, it did not take long for an employee to appear and begin to suspect the true intentions of this company, and as a result of his curiosity and that of his colleagues, he started what would soon become a kind of mutiny that would try to unmask what is behind this strange and manipulative company. From then on, this group of workers will live moments of confusion, distrust and conspiracy, no matter what, to discover the truth.
I think one of the things this series does well is to generate an unclear environment regarding the intentions of the Lumon company, they look like a great corporation with intentions to advance technologically in favor of science, but behind the unreliable smiles of their managers or owners, lie dark secrets that they try to hide under the facade of a doctrine created by the founder of the company. The plot of the series is undoubtedly very original and has the ability to involve us with intrigues and twists in the story quite interesting.
So if you are looking for a different proposal, full of good performances and with a clear direction, then you shouldn't waste any more time to watch SEVERANCE, I'm sure this series will captivate you or at least catch your attention, you just have to give it a little time to get caught in this enigmatic story. The second season is still airing, but even at this moment I can rate it a solid 9/10.
