With the huge number of movies and TV shows released every month, it seems to me that there’s a kind of saturation. The problem may be that many of these movies are just stories very similar to others, where only the characters’ names change, but they feel the same. That’s why, lately, I’ve been trying to find movies that really have something striking about them and leave you thinking for a couple of days. So today, I want to share my thoughts on the movie “Fractured”; I hope you enjoy it.
This film, released on September 22, 2019, is an American production in the thriller genre, but not your typical thriller, rather a psychological one, which, personally, is one of my favorites. Here, we follow the story of a family on a short road trip. They make a quick stop at a gas station, and while they’re outside the car, the couple’s young daughter gets cornered by a dog and falls into a ditch; her father, trying to grab her, falls in too. The girl is injured, and they rush to a nearby hospital, and so what seemed like a quick rest stop ends up changing everything for the family.
What happens in the movie?
Let's talk a little more in depth about what happens in the movie. The small family consists of Ray Monroe, a father traveling down the highway with his wife and daughter. Right at the beginning, we witness an argument between the couple; apparently, they were returning from a family dinner with his wife’s parents, and things didn’t go well. Things get a little heated, but then they calm down. The little girl needs to use the restroom, so they pull over at a gas station.
Here’s what I mentioned earlier: the little girl is cornered by a dog, falls, and her father falls too, hitting his head; for a moment, the tension is palpable. The father thinks his daughter is dead, so in a state of shock, not knowing what to do, he closes his eyes and that’s when we hear the little girl calling out to her father. She seems to be okay, but when they try to move her, she says her arm hurts, so they need to take her to the hospital, and that’s what they do. Ray drives to a nearby hospital, because he says an ambulance would take too long to arrive.
Ray drives as fast as he can, and they arrive at the hospital. His wife says she’ll take their daughter, and Ray decides to go check in so they can be seen, but with so many people there, they have to wait. After a couple of minutes, they’re attended to; the staff asks a few questions, and after the daughter is examined, it’s determined she needs an MRI, so his wife and daughter head off to get that done. Ray decides to wait for them, but he ends up passing out from exhaustion. When he wakes up and his wife and daughter still haven’t returned, he asks around but no one gives him any answers; everyone claims there’s no confirmation of his family’s admission, which leads Ray to believe it’s all part of an organ trafficking conspiracy, so he’ll do whatever it takes to find answers.
My opinion about the movie
From this point on, I’ll be sharing only my personal opinion about the movie, without including any spoilers. First of all, as I mentioned at the beginning, psychological thrillers are among my favorites, which is why I’ll start by talking about the plot. What’s interesting about this movie’s plot is that, right from the start, there’s a lot going on, and that’s when you have to pay close attention to everything. There comes a point very early in the movie where you can’t look away because you want to know what’s going to happen next, and there are few movies that I think manage to create that sense of anticipation.
What I enjoy most about this psychological thriller is how brilliantly it plays with our minds without revealing much; I mean, there are scenes that might seem unnecessary, but as the plot unfolds, you realize how all these elements end up playing with your mind, allowing you to truly immerse yourself in the film, the story, and the characters’ emotions, especially with Ray, thanks to his superb performance that makes you feel that atmosphere of fear, desperation, and the desperate need to find his family no matter what.
One of this movie's potential flaws depends a lot on how many others you've seen in the same genre; I mean, there are two nuances: the first is the one that takes you by the hand through the story and undoubtedly ends up surprising you as it progresses, and the second is the one where (if you’re like me) your mind tries to find answers and, as a result, you might get an idea of what’s happening, since there are certain scenes where it feels like some things are perhaps forced, but as I said before, it depends on each person; clichés are always present, but they aren’t always noticeable.
Without a doubt, as a film that starts with a simple plot and becomes more complicated and twisted as it progresses, it also leaves us with an ending that aligns with what I said earlier; it could be genius or it could be predictable, but without a doubt, no matter which side of the spectrum you’re on, I can say that the ending is very good, because the film always guides you so naturally that the ending elicits a strong reaction in you; at least it did for me, even though my mind tried to figure out everything that was happening.
I’ll wrap up by saying that, for me, this movie deserves a solid 9 out of 10, though I’ll stress again that it depends on each person and their state of mind while watching it, but I really enjoyed it; it’s one of those movies you can definitely watch more than once and keep discovering details you missed the first time around. Con la gran cantidad de películas y series que son estrenadas cada mes, me parece que existe una especie de saturación. El problema quizás radica en que muchas de las películas no son más que historias muy similares a otras en donde solo cambian el nombre de los personajes, pero se sienten similares; por eso, últimamente intento buscar aquellas películas que realmente tengan algo muy llamativo y te dejen pensando por un par de días. Por eso, el día de hoy quiero compartirles mi opinión sobre la película “Fractura”; espero que la disfruten.
Esta película, estrenada el 22 de septiembre del año 2019, es una producción estadounidense que pertenece al género de thriller, pero no el común, sino el psicológico, el cual, personalmente, es uno de los que más me gusta. Aquí seguiremos la historia de una familia, la cual se encontraba en un pequeño viaje. Hacen una pequeña parada en una gasolinera y, mientras hacían cosas fuera del auto, la pequeña hija del matrimonio termina acorralada por un perro y termina cayendo por una zanja; su padre, en un intento por agarrarla, cae también. La niña resulta herida y corren a un hospital cercano y así lo que parecía ser una pequeña parada para descansar termina cambiando las cosas para la familia.
¿Qué sucede en la película?
Hablemos un poco más a profundidad de lo que sucede en la película. La pequeña familia está conformada por Ray Monroe, un padre de familia que viaja por la carretera junto a su esposa y su hija. Tan solo al comenzar, observamos una discusión en el matrimonio; al parecer regresaban de una cena familiar con los padres de su esposa y las cosas no fueron bien. Las cosas se ponen un poco intensas, pero luego se tranquilizan. La pequeña niña necesita ir al baño, por lo que hacen una parada en la gasolinera.
Aquí ocurre lo que mencioné antes: la niña es acorralada por un perro, cae, su padre también golpeándose la cabeza y por un momento se siente la tensión; el padre piensa que su hija está muerta, por lo que en estado de shock, sin saber qué hacer, cierra sus ojos y es allí cuando escuchamos a la pequeña niña llamando a su padre. Parece estar bien, pero cuando intentan moverla, dice que le duele el brazo, por lo que es necesario llevarla al hospital y así lo hacen. Ray conduce hacia un hospital cercano, porque asegura que una ambulancia tardaría mucho en llegar.
Ray conduce lo más rápido posible y llegan al hospital. La esposa dice que llevará a su hija y Ray decide ir a registrarse para ser atendidos, pero habiendo tantas personas, deben esperar. Luego de un par de minutos los atienden, hacen ciertas preguntas y, luego de que la hija es revisada, es necesario hacerle una resonancia magnética, y así su esposa e hija se dirigen a eso. Ray decide esperarlas, pero se termina desmayando por el cansancio. Cuando despierta y todavía su esposa e hija no han vuelto, pregunta y nadie le da respuestas; todos aseguran que no hay confirmación de la admisión de su familia, lo que hace que Ray piense que todo es parte de una conspiración de tráfico de órganos, por lo que hará lo necesario para encontrar respuestas.
Mi opinión sobre la película
A partir de este punto hablaré solo de mi opinión con respecto a la película, sin incluir ningún tipo de spoiler. Antes que nada, como mencioné al principio, las películas de thriller psicológico son de mis favoritas y es por eso que comenzaré hablando de la trama. Lo interesante de la trama de esta película es que, desde un principio, hay muchas cosas sucediendo y es cuando tienes que estar atento a todo. Llega un punto muy temprano en la película donde ya no puedes despegarte porque quieres saber qué es lo próximo que ocurrirá y son pocas las películas que considero que logran generar eso.
Lo que más disfruto del thriller psicológico es la gran manera en la que juega con nuestra mente aun sin mostrar mucho; quiero decir, hay escenas que pueden parecer innecesarias, pero mientras más avanza la trama, te das cuenta de cómo todas estas cosas terminan jugando con tu mente, permitiéndote que realmente te integres a la película, la historia y al sentir de los personajes, en especial con Ray, por su estupenda actuación que te hace sentir esa atmósfera de miedo, desesperación y necesidad de encontrar a su familia sin importar qué.
Algo en lo que puede pecar esta película depende mucho de la cantidad de otras que hayas visto del mismo género; quiero decir, existen dos matices: el primero es aquel que te lleva de la mano con la historia y sin duda te termina sorprendiendo mientras más avanza la misma, y el segundo es aquel donde (si son como yo) tu mente intenta encontrar respuestas y, por ende, pueden llegar a tener una idea de lo que está sucediendo, ya que hay ciertas escenas donde se siente quizás que se fuerzan algunas cosas, pero como dije antes, depende de cada persona; lo cliché siempre está presente, pero no siempre se nota.
Sin duda, al ser una película que empieza con una trama sencilla y, mientras más avanza, se vuelve más complicada y retorcida, nos deja también con un desenlace que va de la mano con lo que dije anteriormente; puede ser una genialidad o puede ser predecible, pero sin duda, sin importar en qué lado del matiz te encuentres, puedo decir que el final es muy bueno, porque la película se encarga de llevarte siempre de una manera tan natural para que el final genere una gran reacción en ti; al menos en mí lo hizo aun cuando mi mente intentó adivinar todo lo que estaba ocurriendo.
Finalizo diciendo que para mí esta película puede tener un sólido 9 de 10, esto nuevamente haciendo énfasis en que depende de cada persona y el matiz en el que se encuentra mientras ve la película, pero a mí me gustó bastante; es de esas películas que sin duda puedes ver más de una vez y te irás encontrando con detalles que se te pasaron por alto antes.
